"This hotel used to be a dormitory for Australian National University, so the upside is it's cheap. The downsides are small rooms without private bathrooms, though each room does have its own sink. There's no air conditioning, only a fan, but they do have heating in winter. Also, the soundproofing is pretty bad.
After booking, they kept sending frequent emails and texts for online check-in, which honestly wasn't necessary at all. Check-in was super quick in person, and they didn't even ask for a bank card or deposit. However, the online check-in requires you to enter bank card information. To avoid phishing risks, I generally don't input my card details on untrustworthy websites, but if you don't complete the online process, they'll keep sending you messages, which is quite annoying.
Also, the front desk has short operating hours, closing at 7:30 PM on weekdays and apparently at 3 PM on weekends. I arrived a bit late, and the door was locked, so I had to call the front desk to open it. Then, in the middle of the night, their system sent out messages about online check-out. I thought returning the key was all there was to it? More messages, this system is truly irritating. The fact is, the front desk isn't even open before 7 or 8 AM, so you just drop your key card in a box for check-out – it's that simple.
However, I think it's quite good for a temporary stay of a few nights, but I only recommend it if you're okay with not having a private bathroom. If you need a room with a bathroom, the value for money isn't as good as other hotels. As for location, it's pretty much in the city center, about a 10-minute walk to the main downtown area, and there's a light rail station right downstairs. So, overall, I'd still give it a good review.
On a side note, the front desk staff was quite friendly when I was there, even though it took a little while for them to come and open the door after I called (mainly because I really didn't expect the front desk to close at 7:30 PM)."
