"Facilities: It has breakfast, which is especially important for those hiking the Kumano Kodo. The earliest bus to Kumano Kodokan, the closest stop to the hotel, departs at 6:47 AM. Breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, so you can leave right after eating without any delay. Cleanliness: Clean and good! The shower facilities are clearly labeled with different types. Environment: The hotel rooms offer breathtaking views, especially while waiting for the elevator. It perfectly captures the feeling of framing a view, a style often associated with both Chinese and Japanese culture. Service: Excellent! Seriously, as you can see from the many pictures I've posted, it's truly exceptional. Coffee and tea are available on the first floor. I was so lucky to choose this hotel for my Kumano Kodo hike; it's close to a FamilyMart, across the railway is a Lawson, and next to Kiitanabe Station is a 7-Eleven."

"Review of Hanayo Garden Hotel Shirahama, Japan Located in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, the hotel boasts a prime location nestled between the mountains and the sea, about an 8-10 minute walk from Shirahama Beach. The surroundings are tranquil. Specializing in seaside hot spring experiences, the hotel offers both open-air and indoor hot spring baths, some of which face the Pacific Ocean, allowing you to soak while watching the sunset or waves. The slightly alkaline spring water is beneficial for relieving muscle aches and fatigue. The facilities are well-maintained, and basic toiletries are provided. The nighttime bathing atmosphere is breathtaking, with the sounds of the stars and waves adding to the soothing effect. The guest rooms are available in Japanese, Western, and mixed Japanese/Western styles. Spacious (25-40 square meters), they feature mattresses with a perfect firmness, making them ideal for families or groups. Bathrooms have separate wet and dry areas, bathtubs, and toilets. High-floor ocean view rooms are recommended for unobstructed views. Hanayo Garden Hotel is a secluded retreat in Shirahama Onsen, renowned for its ocean view hot springs, fresh seafood, and family-friendly amenities. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a slow-paced holiday of ”soaking in hot springs, watching the sea, and eating seafood”, this place is worth including in your list."

"This is one of the famous onsen hotels within the vicinity of Kumano Hongji area, it is ideal for pre-hike stay for preparation/familiarization of the area or a post-hike relaxation to wrap the hike. Awesome Onsen, outdoor one even better (though it was close to zero in the morning and at night, you definitely get unforgettable experience) There is buffer breakfast as well as dinner for you to enjoy, especially for dinner, beyond my expectation. The hotel also provides free parking lot for the guests. Downside was the facility within the room, quite simple and basic. But you came here to hike and explore the area, so for the location, onsen and the nice food, 4 out of 5 ⭐️. Plus, Ms. 萌音 at reception speaks fluent English and provided a quite detailed tips on some of trekking routes for my consideration and willing to help to send the postcard for me as the Post Office was closed on Sunday, many thanks to her!"

"The shuttle bus from Ikidanabe JR Station was at around 2pm. If you missed it, you can only take a taxi there, which costs about 1700JP. The beach behind the hotel is very beautiful, and you can see the sunset. I booked a one-night stay with two meals. The dinner was pretty good, and the quality was higher than that of several hotels behind the Kumano Kodo! There was also dandan noodles for supper in the evening. Personally, I feel that except for the inconvenient transportation, I am satisfied with the hotel in other aspects! The shuttle bus was delivered to Ikidanabe Station at 10am in the morning. We felt it was a bit late, so we asked the front desk to call a taxi to the station. Other areas are good!"

"I booked a budget room at this hotel for a one-night stop in Kii-Tanabe before setting off on my Kumano Kodo hike. The location is super convenient, with the train station, bus stop for the next day, convenience stores, the tourist center, and many restaurants all just a few dozen meters away. The hotel is older, and the facilities are basic but adequate. My room wasn't very large, but it was very clean."

"It was 3rd day when my wife and I are hiking KUMANO KODO. After 6 and half hour hiking and 20 minutes bus, we arrived at Watarase Onsen Hotel Sasayuri around 5pm. At checking counter, we found that I booked wrong day - one day late….. However service person rearranged room and dinner for us within less than half hour. Their traditional Japanese service and food are amazing and forgettable. I will be for sure coming back when I revisit this area."

"Very nice staff. We could communicate with our broken Japanese and English just fine! The rooms were very clean and we felt at home. The breakfast was nice. I’d definitely stay there again!"

"The hot spring right outside the door is incredibly soothing, and the stars are amazing at night. The food prepared by the host is delicious, and there's a private communal hot spring to soak in. The only downside is that the soundproofing isn't great; the older man in the next room was incredibly loud. But thankfully, the other guests all went to bed early, so it didn't disturb their rest too much."
