KAMENOI HOTEL KUMANO TANABE ★★★★
"Breakfast was absolutely delicious! However, it was quite crowded with many foreign guests. The service was excellent, probably because its location at the start of a hiking trail makes it very popular. That said, getting there from the JR station isn't very convenient; you have to wait for a taxi, and it takes about ten minutes. If you're in a hurry, it's a bit too far out."
Hotel Nankairo ★★
"For those who want to start early on the Kumano Kodo Trail, this hotel is right next to the station and is a good choice. The price is also acceptable."
Comfort Hotel Kii Tanabe ★★
"Location is great, near the train station. It is a good starting point for Kumano Kodo."
Yunominesou ★★★
"An old hot spring hotel located at the innermost of Tangfeng Hot Spring Street. You need to climb a small slope. Those with suitcases need to pay attention. You should be able to ask the hotel to pick you up. The hotel room is spacious and the facilities are a bit old, but the hygiene is good, the service staff is lovely, the dinner is also a standard Japanese set meal, the large bathroom has open-air and indoor, the water temperature is hot enough, you can recover your physical strength very well, and there is a car to take you to the bus station of Tangfeng Street in the morning."
Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya ★★★
"Everything was absolutely fantastic! The Japanese-style service was impeccable, and both breakfast and dinner were incredibly rich and satisfying. I particularly loved the riverside hot spring – soaking in it at night with the breeze blowing was so incredibly comfortable. I absolutely adore this place!"
Tanabe Station Hotel ★★
"Very convenient location"
Guesthouse Kumano ★★
"Trip wouldn’t let me modify my booking to combine both days, but the manager kept my bookings of two days without making me check out and check back in. Very convenient"
Hotel Harvest Nankitanabe ★★★★
"Breakfast is included, but it turns out it’s only a takeaway meal box, not a buffet…………………… Narumano is so old…………………………………………"
Garden Hotel Hanayo ★★★
"We arrived late at night. The guy at the front desk greeted us warmly. He used a translator to explain the situation and asked if we needed our luggage transported (he could help transport our luggage to the next destination). He also asked if we needed to soak in an outdoor hot spring. The next morning, I opened the curtains and saw the beautiful sea. It's far from the station and it's dark at night if you walk. I recommend taking a taxi, which costs 1,000 yen one way."

SEN.RETREAT HONGU - Kumano Kodo Gateway
"The room was very clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were provided, but it would have been even better if the time they were left was indicated."
SEN.RETREAT TAKIJIRI
"Self checin/out hotel Near Takijiri oji 1.1km. Evening's bento with breakfast Drinks in refrigerator"
Watarase Onsen Hotel Yamayuri
"We reached the hotel on foot from Hongu Taisha Shrine via Ohitsuchi, passing by Yumine Hot Spring Street. It takes about half an hour to walk from the hot spring street. I’m not sure how to get there by car. The hotel environment is very good. It’s a completely Japanese-style resort hotel. It’s quiet and far away. The crowd, the service is enthusiastic, and the hygiene is up to standard. (Note that there are no showers in the rooms, you have to go to the large bathroom.) The hot springs are very big and unique. The dinner is also good. I have a good rest. There is a shuttle bus to the palace when I leave. ( You may also be able to make an appointment) Watase Onsen is worth experiencing!"
Mirai Noen
"This was a long time ago, but... it was the worst lodging I've ever stayed at in my life. There was no hygiene at all. I hope they improve it for future guests. There is a separate accommodation building, the master's house, and a detached room. Opposite the main house is a detached room! It feels like a storage shed💦 The entrance is through the farmhouse storehouse. There was food left over from the previous guest, even in the fridge! 20,000 yen a night (New Year's rate) is just too bad! The room in the main house may be comfortable, but the detached room is definitely not worth the fee. I was dying to go home..."
Minshuku Sumiya
"The room was lovely, with a Japanese style. I booked this guesthouse for two nights because I was planning to hike the Kumano Kodo Chuhero route. The owner was very welcoming and attentive. The guesthouse had onsen facilities and offered restaurant reservations, but I was too tired to eat after the hike. There was a bus stop right outside the guesthouse, making it convenient to go to Chikaro-oji, Kyogawa, and Oguchi."
Shimogoten
"Escape the ordinary and discover an unforgettable, authentic Japanese onsen experience at this hidden gem, far from the typical tourist trail! Tucked away in a serene, off-the-beaten-path location, this traditional onsen is a rare find for travelers seeking something truly special. My wife, two young kids, and I were blown away by the tranquil, rejuvenating atmosphere during our stay. The owner’s wife, with her excellent English, went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed, treating us like cherished guests in their own home. The warm, attentive staff made every moment feel personal and heartfelt. This is not your standard Japanese tourist stop—it’s a cultural treasure for those craving an authentic, soul-soothing retreat. A word of advice for drivers: triple-check the address and stick to main roads to avoid any navigation hiccups. You’ll thank me later! Come for a unique, immersive experience that will leave you refreshed and inspired."
Kawayu Onsen Fujiya
"This hot spring hotel is conveniently located. Buses from all directions stop at the hotel entrance. The service facilities and breakfast and dinner are all good. I would like to mention that the person in charge of this area specially helped us to make a phone reservation for the return bus (because we needed to make a reservation). On the day of departure, he sent us to the bus early in the morning and took special care of the bus driver, which was very touching. In order to communicate with Chinese people, a Chinese translator was specially prepared. The service is really sincere, enthusiastic and heartwarming!"
Ryujin Onsen Marui Ryokan
"Nice little family run Japanese inn. Owner is a lady over 80 years old who still manages the hotel and greets all the guests like they are family. Traditional clean and comfortable tatami rooms which they set up for sleeping while you are at dinner. The wooden onsen is not very big but nice and hot and has a big picture window looking out on trees. Good hearty locally sourced food, very filling unlike some other multi course Japanese meals. Very friendly staff who seem genuinely happy when you try greeting them in in however much Japanese you've learned."
Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya
"This hotel is okay, it was a bit dingy and the room smelt a little bit of smoke - but I was totally fine with that because you get to use the great onsen at the partner hotel next door (spent my time there), and the area was really nice. I liked it as a cheap option along the kumano kodo."
Otonashi No Sato Wataze Onsen & Cottage
"The air is fresh, not bad"
J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse
"I arrived at the guesthouse quite late, and they arranged two lower bunks for me. The atmosphere was very cozy, and the fellow hikers were friendly and chatty."
SEN.RETREAT TAKAHARA
"We arrived after completing the first leg of the Kumano Kodo trek, and this was the first accommodation we came across. After a lovely hike, arriving at a place like this is a real treat. We had the place to ourselves, so we enjoyed the house all to ourselves. Dinner was brought to us while we were at the lodge, and breakfast was already in the room. They provide a kimono and slippers. If the weather is nice, you can have a bonfire outside; in our case, we stayed inside because it was raining."
