Comfort Hotel Kii Tanabe
"Good and clean hotel. It was situated in a good location from the train station"
KAMENOI HOTEL KUMANO TANABE
"This is a somewhat old Japanese-style hotel, not quite worthy of a 4-star rating. It seems there are only public baths, no private ones. They don't offer luggage storage for multiple days. They told me to use the coin locker at the station, but that only allows for 7 days, and it only accepts coins."
Hotel Kii Tanabe
"We stayed here the night before we ventured to the Kumano Kodo. It was perfect for this: it’s located right next to the train station which makes arriving by train and leaving by bus quite easy. Also, the restaurants and izakayas are close by so you can have a good evening with your travel companions. The staff was very friendly, the rooms very clean und the breakfast ok. I’d book again!"
Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya
"服务:I’m here to specifically show my appreciation to the staff of the hotel. I forgot my Airpod in the room when checking out and will only stay one more day in another town at least one hour away. The staff from the hotel worked with me with great patience to confirm my itinerary and shipping address. When there is not enough time to make a delivery with commercial services, one of the staff decided to personally take my lost items to my next hotel with no ask for charge. I have never experienced such a kind gesture. I will not stay in any other hotels other than this one the next time I travel in the region. 卫生:👍👍👍 Onsen: 👍👍👍"
J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse
"Amazing jewel in the middle of a luxury onsen spa area. The owner couple is absolutely adorable and they propose three private onsen spot in house! One outdoor and two indoor. Wonderful experience"
SEN.RETREAT CHIKATSUYU
"I was about to give bad reviews due to some poor check-in experience, but everything after check in is so good that compensates this journey. First, the check-in process that brings me with bad experience: it is self-served and there is no any staff. By rights you should receive an instruction email with check-in PIN in advance, which I heard from other guests. However, I didn’t receive anything but Trip’s confirmation letter and I was unable to check in. And my sim card in Japan is just an internet card unable to make phone calls, which means I have no way to contact the hotel directly. My partner and I were desperately locked out of the hotel in the evening, after 7h hiking, with no other available hotel in the mountain. After waiting for over 1 hour, other guests helped us to enter the admin room where there is an ipad to call the hotel (why not make it available to guests without checking in?), and with the help of Trip’s agency, we finally checked in successfully. Then here is the staying experience: so good that makes me almost forgive the poor check-in experience. Each room is a spacious individual house and ours has a garden for BBQ. The food is also self-served, with the cooking stuffs and ingredients in the fridge. It was unexpected that you need to cook yourself (I don’t think it was listed on room info when I booked it), but it’s not bad that Wagyu, chicken, and vegetables are served. The rooms are big and cozy, and you can do the laundry after hiking. Everything is good about the hotel itself, just be aware of the self-checkin process and make sure you get the instructions before that."
Tanabe Station Hotel
"The location is still very good, but the room is too small... The space planning is very compact, and everything is included. The price is indeed cheap, so the overall cost-effectiveness is very high. It is a good choice for people like us who only stay for one night and leave. The scenery on the Kumano Kodo is so beautiful"
SEN.RETREAT HONGU - Kumano Kodo Gateway
Kawayu Onsen Fujiya
"The bus stop is right outside, making it really convenient for getting around."

Kumano Ayukawa-juku
"Very kind boss, specializing in driving, and took me to delicious family cuisine at night. There is Lawson near the hotel. The room I lived in was large and comfortable. I drove me to Kumano Ancient Road Museum the next morning. It is recommended to live here."
SEN.RETREAT TAKIJIRI
"I truly enjoyef thus accomodation for my Kumano kodo trek. It exceeded my expectations. Everything was new and clean. The hotel is right next to the main road, but there is no traffic at night and I had a good sleep. It's close to takijiri oji or takahara by car or bus. The bendo dinner box was delicious and there was more than enough. Beautifull view over the river and the forest"
Mirai Noen
"This was a long time ago, but... it was the worst lodging I've ever stayed at in my life. There was no hygiene at all. I hope they improve it for future guests. There is a separate accommodation building, the master's house, and a detached room. Opposite the main house is a detached room! It feels like a storage shed💦 The entrance is through the farmhouse storehouse. There was food left over from the previous guest, even in the fridge! 20,000 yen a night (New Year's rate) is just too bad! The room in the main house may be comfortable, but the detached room is definitely not worth the fee. I was dying to go home..."
Nouka Minpaku Mirainouen
"The room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant."
Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya
"The hotel is old japanese style. There is the toilet but no area for showering. There is the new modern hotel near this hotel that have locker .I keep my luggage during the trail. I think they are the same owner."
Ryujin Onsen Marui Ryokan
"It was a very Japanese experience. The owner and staff were very nice and provided excellent service!"
Ashita No Mori
"The hotel on the way to the Kumano Kodo Trail is not big, but overall it's OK. There is no private bathroom, but since there are only a few rooms and not many guests, the shared bathroom is enough. The open-air Kawayu hot spring at the entrance is very popular, you must go! The miraculous craftsmanship of nature! The only drawback is that I lost my headphones at the hotel. I left them on the bed the night before and forgot to collect them in the morning. As soon as I got on the bus, I contacted Ctrip and gave me the room number and location. The location search also showed that the headphones were here. B&B, but after looking for it for a long time, the B&B owner said there was no one... I thought it was a bit weird. Because the schedule was too busy, I didn't have time to go back and look for it myself, but I still felt a little uncomfortable. I would like to express special praise to Ctrip’s customer service, who responded very quickly, had a good attitude, and tried their best to help solve the problem. When you are away from home, you will feel more secure if there is a problem with your Ctrip order. Already a fan, I will use Ctrip next time!"
Ryokan Bijintei
"Excellent! 1. The owner is very welcoming. 2. Excellent location, right next to the station. 3. Beautiful environment. 4. I fell asleep to birdsong every night. 5. The hotel's hot spring is very clean. 6. The food is delicious."
Hotel Nankairo
"It's less than a 5-minute walk straight from the station. According to the description, it's a long-established hotel. It's on the second floor. I arrived early and was able to store my luggage. I only saw staff when I checked in later that night. The single room was quite small, but clean and tidy. The bathroom was a little small, but it was adequate."
Watarase Onsen Hotel Yamayuri
"We reached the hotel on foot from Hongu Taisha Shrine via Ohitsuchi, passing by Yumine Hot Spring Street. It takes about half an hour to walk from the hot spring street. I’m not sure how to get there by car. The hotel environment is very good. It’s a completely Japanese-style resort hotel. It’s quiet and far away. The crowd, the service is enthusiastic, and the hygiene is up to standard. (Note that there are no showers in the rooms, you have to go to the large bathroom.) The hot springs are very big and unique. The dinner is also good. I have a good rest. There is a shuttle bus to the palace when I leave. ( You may also be able to make an appointment) Watase Onsen is worth experiencing!"
Motoyu Bekkan
"It’s more for family vacation or friends staycation. Kitchen is well equipped, nearby is only 2 eateries, bus transportation is available but very limited . Bring some food over so u can cook dinner n breakfast for yourself"
Guesthouse Kumano
"A bit minimalistic (shared bathroom and restroom) but otherwise very friendly, clean, with standard set of amenities (TV, WiFi, refrigerator) for this type of hotels. If you are doing hiking and have to stay for a night, this place has almost unbeatable price. Highly recommend."
Yunominesou
"The staff were very helpful. The hotel facilities were a bit old, but the hot springs were excellent, and we even soaked in the private one. The hotel is about a ten-minute walk from the town; there's a bus that goes right to the door, just a short walk up a small hill. The whole place smelled of the local sulfurous hot springs, but you get used to it after a while. In the mornings, the staff even drove us to the town's bus stop."
Onsen Minshuku Omuraya
"Overview: Accommodation (hot spring guesthouse) in Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture, where you can bring your dog. It is in a good location for staying when visiting the Kumano Sanzan shrines, and there are many guests with their dogs, so you can easily enjoy Kawayu Onsen and delicious seafood with your dog. Onsen Minshuku Omuraya is an accommodation (hot spring guesthouse) in Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. It is located near the Daito River, about a 10-minute drive south of Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine. The nearest station is Shingu Station, which is an hour by bus, and Kii-Tanabe Station, which is an hour and 45 minutes by bus, so if you are planning to visit nearby sightseeing spots, it is more practical to visit by car. The official website lists the detailed conditions for bringing dogs to this facility. The overview is as follows. There are no particular restrictions on the breed of dog or the number of dogs, and the fee is 2,200 yen per dog. - Guests with pets can use Building 2, Building 3, and Oku Annex. - Advance notice is required if you are bringing a pet.・You must bring a rabies vaccination certificate. ・You must wear a manners belt and manners pants inside the building. ・You must be perfectly toilet trained. ・You must not bark unnecessarily. ・If any fixtures or equipment are damaged or soiled and need to be repaired, a repair fee will be charged. If you are bringing a dog, a foot wipe will be provided. You will need to bring anything else you need. Regarding dog-related facilities, there is a dog run when using the Oku Annex. You can bring your dog inside the building, in the corridors, and in the dining area. The room we stayed in this time was a twin bedroom. Although the room was not large, it had a toilet and was fully equipped for a night's relaxation. You could see the Ooto River from the window, and it was possible to spend a quiet night while listening to the murmuring of the river. Although the facility itself is old, it was generally kept clean. Although there are no bathrooms in the rooms, Kawayu Onsen is drawn into the building, and you can enjoy the free-flowing sodium bicarbonate chloride hot spring water. In addition, it is possible to enjoy a large open-air bath called "Sennin Onsen" on the banks of the Ooto River, only during the winter (swimsuits required, pets not allowed). Please enjoy this bath only if the season and conditions are right. Meals are served at the restaurant, where you can bring your pet dog. For meals, we chose the standard menu "Manpuku Gozen". As the name suggests, it was a course that was very filling and satisfying, with local Kumano sweetfish, sashimi, hot pot, simmered dishes, grilled dishes, and more. As an option, you can also enjoy steak and yakiniku made from local Kumano beef. If you want to enjoy local wagyu beef, it is a good idea to reserve this option in advance. The breakfast is simple but has a hearty taste, making it a great source of inspiration for walking the Kumano Kodo trail. As for the price, on a Friday in early January, it was 11,700 yen per person for two people with pets, and about 28,000 yen in total for two people and two dogs. It includes a solid breakfast and dinner, and I think it is a good price for a lodging facility with a hot spring. Summary: Onsen Minshuku Omuraya is a lodging facility (minshuku with hot spring) that is suitable for visiting Kumano Sanzan with your dog. You can enjoy hot springs with good quality water, so I think it is a relaxing inn for pet owners as well."
Ryokan Sakai
"The accommodation fee was expressed as 、 confusing. ¥ 9,800 〜 Discount if you pay in cash on site. It was different when I went to the site."
