Just 3 miles North there are thousands of acres of public land open to hunters and hikers. 20 minutes west are the Blue Hills and Christy Mountain ski resort with both downhill and cross-country skiing. There are excellent trout streams here as well. The Thornapple River is almost a stones throw away from the cabin and is excellent for a kayak or canoe float with great bass and musky fishing. The big rivers, the Flambeau and Chippewa, are just 5 and 15 minutes drive. They both are world class rivers for musky, bass, pike and walleye fishing as well as tubing which is very popular here. Lakes are too numerous and varied for description but offer excellent fishing, swimming and watersports. Fall brings deer, bear, duck and grouse seasons as well as spectacular fall colors. It is possibly the finest season to visit northern Wisconsin. In winter, Rusk County offers many miles of well groomed snowmobile trails with the trail passing right by the cabin. You can step right out of the cabin and on to your sled! There is room for parking several trucks and trailers so large groups are welcome. In addition to the multitude of woods and water sports, all summer long there are county fairs, festivals, rodeos, logging competition, dirt track racing, casinos and so much more all in easy driving distance. We welcome dogs and have been told they enjoy the spacious yard and creek. Deer and turkeys are usual sightings from the large cabin windows and of course the squirrels and birds never cease to entertain us. Hunters are free to explore and hunt our 40 acres of wood land which is surrounded by thousands of acres of public forest. The Blue Hills are especially known for their scenic ATV/UTV trails. You can leave directly from the cabin and there's ample trailer parking in the yard. Snowmobile trails are available for hours of riding too.Several lakes are within minutes for fishing, boating, and kayaking. Christie Mountain Snow Area is just a couple minutes down the road. It offers great family skiing, snowtubing and beautiful views of "the hills."Cross country ski trails are close and double for hiking and mountain biking use in the summer.
