"The owner was friendly, kind and helpful.  My room in the guesthouse was private and secluded from all other rooms and was equipped with a fridge, kettle and toaster oven.  Unfortunately, the temperature dipped below 10C one night and the room was not heated."

"Staffs are very friendly, even though they don't speak much English, they would try their best to communicate with you. The hotel is located on a little hill side, so there's a lovely view, one side of the room has the ocean view (see image), the other side of the room has the spectacular snow mountain view (didn't take image). The hotel building itself believe is a bit old, so the rooms and bathrooms are a bit dated, but you can tell they try to modernize as much as they could, like very new aircon, new hairdryer (there's one old one attached to the wall which doesn't work, but the new one is in the drawer), TV etc. Bathroom is a little rundown, but it still function fine. The room key was really a "key", which you also have to insert into the wall and turn it for lights and electric in the room, it's quite retro and interesting, and it's the first time I've came across this kind of system. Hotel restaurant was the same one as the we stayed in an other city, and food standard was the same - which was good. Breakfast was superb, we loved it. Overall the experience was good and we were happy with our stay."

"A thoroughly satisfying and impeccable hot spring trip. This hotel is nestled deep in the mountains of Itoigawa, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Hakuba Buddha statue is nearby, and a large silken thread runs past the entrance. Facilities: The hotel is a bit far from the train station, but calling ahead will arrange a shuttle service in a Mitsubishi Delica – a very comfortable ride. The hotel has a large public bath with three private baths. Check-in includes 30 minutes of complimentary bath time, after which it costs 2200 yen for every 45 minutes. We used two of them and found them very relaxing. Cleanliness: Very clean. The hotel is exceptionally well-maintained; there was practically no dust. Environment: Cozy and inviting. Soft background music plays in the public areas, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Service: The hotel staff are very welcoming, with a greeter upon check-in. The auntie and uncle at the front desk were particularly helpful and friendly, but they seemed a little unfamiliar with WeChat payment since we were the first guests to use it. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent."

"It seems that the rooms vary, but the spacious room on the top floor was truly amazing! I had business in Itoigawa, but there were no hotels nearby, so I was having trouble finding one, and then I found this room. I think this is the perfect room for people who want to enjoy both a hotel stay and sightseeing. However, I feel that the value for money is a little low."

"The scenery is stunning, but train services to JR Hiraiwa Station are extremely limited. The room facilities are a bit dated. The private and public onsen (hot spring baths) are both excellent, and almost empty. It's perfect for a quiet stay with some downtime. Remember to check train schedules beforehand and call the hotel in advance to arrange pick-up. The service is excellent and very welcoming. The food is decent, with a traditional Japanese feel."

"The ryokan is set in a beautiful valley with many rice fields along the way. The onsens, both indoor and outdoor are both excellent and would not hesitate to recommend. Location only accessible if with car as its quite far in the mountains but the environment is very serene. Food served was also of good quality."
