"The hotel bridges the gap between past and presence. Modern "shabby look", classical antiques and temporary elements mix to a consisent, cozy atmosphere. The structure of the old house with a lot of wooden elements supports the historical character. Parking is available, also a nice garden to relax. The service is excellent, the breakfast tasty and varied. Our room was somewhat small and furnished at the minimum, but the bathroom was completely modernly revamped. The overnight rates are moderate. And: the hotel is right at the main shopping street of Jurmala, the beach is only 500 m away. Step in and enjoy Latvian tradition."

"I am currently staying at this hotel, and unfortunately, my experience so far has been very disappointing. The location is excellent — and, sadly, that is the only real advantage I can mention. This is advertised as a four-star hotel, yet there is not even a kettle in the room, let alone tea or coffee. This evening I simply wanted a cup of tea and went to reception. I was told that they could provide me with a kettle — but there was no tea. None at all. In a four-star hotel. Breakfast is no better. Of several coffee machines, only one is working, and what comes out of it is mostly water or milk with very little actual coffee. If you want anything resembling a proper cappuccino, you have to take a cappuccino and an espresso separately and combine them yourself. I understand that September is already off-season. What I do not understand is why the standard of service should apparently end with the high season while the hotel continues to operate as a four-star property and charges its guests accordingly. If a hotel is not prepared to provide four-star service during the off-season, perhaps the room rates should reflect that. Guests could then bring their own kettle, tea and coffee and adjust their expectations accordingly. Four stars should mean more than a sign at the entrance. They create a reasonable expectation of a certain standard of service. Unfortunately, apart from the excellent location, I have seen very little so far that justifies either the four-star category or the price."

"The room, although not large, had a lot of amenities we did not expect: electric kettle and tea; some plates, spoons, glasses and mugs; bathrobes and slippers; even a shoe horn. There was a refridgerator and a little balcony. The hotel is in an excellent location, a leisurely stroll from the beach and a block away from the main pedestrian street in Jurmala. We were awed by the breakfast: a fresh fruit starter; a basket of wonderful bread and croissants with butter and jam; and the usual warm breakfast dishes accompanied by coffee, all served quite stylishly."
