"During the 2025 cherry blossom season, nearly all the Kyoto hotels I booked had negative reviews, citing high business, poor maintenance, and declining service. I was satisfied with all the hotels in the Kaga area of Hokuriku. Kaga Onsen Station is conveniently connected by the Shinkansen, and all hotels offer free shuttle service. Yamanaka Onsen Kisshin-tei offers excellent value for money, with friendly and generous service. Nearby, the Huazi Hotel, with its aesthetically pleasing design by renowned designers, is tranquil and elegant. Yamashiro Onsen is a 15-minute taxi ride away, but I made the wisest choice, choosing Araya Totoan over Kai Kaga. Its 4.9 rating is well-deserved, with the 0.1 point deducted for the lack of a light on my nightstand, which required me to get up and turn it off. Checking in at 2 PM meant there was no early check-in. After storing my luggage, I explored the town, which is more lively than Yamanaka Onsen. There's a thatched hut where Rosanjin once lived. He must have been well-recognized, carving signs for established shops, learning Kutani ware techniques, enjoying delicious food, and soaking in the hot springs. Totoan houses a large collection of Rosanjin's works and has an exhibition room, but unfortunately, it was closed on the Monday of my stay for other reasons. I was disappointed. Entering Totoan is a breathtaking experience, with Rosanjin, Isamu Noguchi, Nordic furniture, and Kutani ware all under one roof. The service is exceptional, in the style of a traditional hot spring establishment. Even the younger staff are attentive, attentive, and responsible. The hot springs are excellent, and the food is impeccably seasoned. The interior is fully tatami-mat, including the elevator, and artwork is everywhere. There's no unpleasant tatami mat smell, and you don't have to sleep on the floor. The air conditioning is excellent and the heating is adequate. The hotel is child-friendly. I stayed next to a family of three, and while it was a bit noisy at night, I'd definitely stay again."

Staying here during the autumn foliage season is fantastic; the environment is like being right in the heart of the scenic area, with views everywhere you look – it's truly wonderful! The kaiseki dinner was exquisite and delicious. The breakfast selection was also plentiful, with both table service and a buffet area. The next day, you can book a free shuttle to Kaga Onsen Station, which is incredibly convenient! For anyone visiting Kaga for hot springs, I highly recommend this hotel; you won't regret it!"

We chose to stay for one night with breakfast and dinner! We were given a designated small private room! There are 3 hot springs! Take turns to take a bath and enjoy different environments! Very satisfied!"

"My son gave me a voucher for a stay at Hoshino Resorts as a gift, and although I really wanted to go to Kyoto, due to time constraints I chose Kaga instead. There were both good and bad reviews online, so I didn't know what it would be like until I actually stayed there, but here are my impressions. When I went there using the navigation system, there was an employee in front of the store, but the "Kai" sign was small and hard to see, which was the starting point. There were carp streamers for the children? The chairs and tables in the lobby looked flimsy, and there was only one elevator. The slippers for use inside the building were also not great. The toilets were clean and OK. The beds were a little low. The yukata (cold) was a gray color that I didn't like. The hot spring was for a small number of people. The hot spring was average. I don't think it was a good idea to serve the food one dish at a time. It would have been better if they had served some of it at once. Something called abalone was served, but it was actually abalone imitation, tokobushi (fukudame). It was really disappointing. The taste was average. I had mentioned that it was an anniversary, so the inn thoughtfully presented us with dried flowers and a cake after the meal, which was nice. It was 50,000 yen per person, so 100,000 yen for a couple, but 30,000 yen per person would be OK."

"We wanted an authentic Japanese experience during our first trip to Japan and found Yamashiro Onsen, Miyabi no Yado. From the moment of collection at the station the staff go out of their way to make you feel special. We were the only westerners during our stay which we loved. Yakutas, informal kimono are provided for wearing around the hotel and almost everyone wears one. We booked the included dinner and breakfast and it was exceptional. A lot of food and a wonderful opportunity for the adventurous to try new things. The meal has really been a highlight from an already pretty awesome holiday. We used an app called kuli kuli to translate menus and deepl for translating spoken messages to communicate with the staff. The vast majority only speak Japanese - as we are in Japan we had no issue with that and do not expect English to be spoken when we travel. That said check in was carried out in perfect English. The gardens are quite beautiful and we highly recommend spending a night or two here to relax. We did not explore the surrounding area or use the onsen as we have tattoos and did not have tattoo covers with us. This did not in anyway detract from our stay."

"Saturday, June 2024 / Katayamazu Onsen NEW MARUYA Hotel [Accommodation fee] 18,668 yen (including 300 yen bath tax). 1 night stay with 2 meals (buffet) ・Superior Japanese-Western room with bath / *Hokuriku support discount plan ・Regular price 37,336 yen (including 300 yen bath tax) [Impressions] Since we arrived after 5 p.m., the parking lot was almost full, so we were in trouble, but a waitress came out and showed us around. Dinner is served in two parts, and it was only available at 7:30 p.m., but we were able to kill time by taking a leisurely bath. There was also a foot bath, but it was full for 5 people, so we gave up because there were only 3 people in it, and the view was not that good. For dinner, we had a topping bowl and a pizza with cherry shrimp at the "Spring Flavor Buffet", and since this is not yakiniku but a steamer, we were able to enjoy it without the smell getting on our yukata. The roast beef was soft and delicious, but the shrimp tempura had too much batter. I think this is the only place that serves shrimp-flavored ramen, but it was delicious. The baths are for men and women only, and there is no switching between them. I think the men's bath has a better open-air bath. Since it's on the first floor, you can't expect a view from the open-air bath, but you can see Lake Shibayama right in front of you from the indoor bath. The table tennis area is a banquet hall, so the carpet on top of the tatami mats is fluffy and not very good. There are five karaoke rooms, two of which are suitable for large groups. The room was a superior Japanese-Western style room, but it was just spacious, we didn't use the reception room, and the bed was too soft. The bedroom windows didn't block out much light, so I was able to get up early. Overall, it was a relaxing resort."

"I visited at the end of the year. It's a charming inn, and the clientele was relatively quiet and peaceful, consisting of elderly people, groups of adults only, adult families, and foreign couples. There was a wide variety of welcome drinks in the lounge, and although I didn't use it due to the bad weather, there was also a stylish terrace. The room was spacious, clean, and had a nice view. Instead of tea bags, they provided Kaga bancha tea. The hot spring wasn't large, but it was very clean and helped alleviate my back pain. The shower was a ReFa, and the shampoo, conditioner, and body soap had a wonderful scent and didn't leave my hair feeling tight. The food was so delicious that it made the New Year's dishes that followed seem bland in comparison. Having a private room was also a plus. There seemed to be many cute yukata to choose from. The service was excellent, and everyone treated us with great care."
