"The food was 100% satisfying for both breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately, the interior is quite old. The dark atmosphere of the entrance and reception is a flaw."

"I stayed in a room called Kajitsuan Kiri. It was a small inn, but the rooms were spacious and clean, and there was an open-air hot spring bath on the veranda. The dinner and breakfast were both substantial and delicious, and in terms of food I preferred it to the Sierra Resort Hakuba the day before. In Japan, I feel that smaller, established inns are often superior to larger, high-end hotels. The next morning, I walked up the slope in front of the inn to Suganodai Bus Center, the base for Senjojiki Cirque. It was a convenient 5-minute drive. As it is a popular inn, I think it is necessary to make a reservation by phone in advance."

📍 11-8 Central, Komagane
★★ 7.8 (10 reviews)

"It was a rare cold wave. Even though it was cold, the air conditioning wasn't working well. It's not usually that cold here, so I took three hot baths. I was chilled to the core. I'm glad I didn't catch a cold."

★★ 8.7 (7 reviews)

"As a base for climbing Kiso komagatake, I was taken care of in 2 nights and 3 days. It was very close to the bus stop for the ropeway platform and had excellent access. The staff were warm and polite, and I was able to relax from the bottom of my heart. The quality of the hot springs is also excellent, and I am very satisfied that I can heal the tiredness of climbing."

Hotel Yamabuki

Hotel Yamabuki

📍 497-1497 Akaho, Komagane
★★★ 8.5 (5 reviews)

"It's a 2-3 minute drive from Kozenji Temple, a famous spot for weeping cherry blossoms and the temple where the Hayataro legend takes place. We arrived at Hotel Yamabuki, our lodging for the night. Our guest room was an ordinary Japanese-style room, but from the window we could see the beautiful Central Alps mountain range, which I think is the mountain just before Komagatake. The next morning was a clear day, and the clear blue sky and the remaining snow sparkling made for a magnificent view. The food was also excellent. The dining area was a private room with a hearth, which created an outstanding atmosphere in itself. Dinner was called "Irori Kaiseki" and, like breakfast, it was a delicious meal centered around locally produced ingredients."

"At night, you can see the stars, and in the morning, the river in front of the inn was overwhelming and amazing. The service was also polite, and I would like to go back again."

"Situated 10 minutes walk from Komagane eki. Public bath for man, roughly host 5 to 6 guess. Breakfast, Japanese buffet type, not much refill (may be not much guess). Request for certain refill food is ok. A good transit stop to trekking of Mount Lomagatake 駒岳."

"I stayed here to climb Mt. Kisokoma. The bus terminal was a short drive away, and the highway interchange was nearby, so the location was excellent. The hotel seemed to be focusing on efficiency. The food was simple, but I guess you could expect that. The hot spring was comfortable, so I could stay in for a long time, and there were no other people bathing, so it was very pleasant."

Hotel Yamabuki ★★★
"Two weeks ago, I stayed at Futari Shizu, which is also in Hayataro Onsen. I thought I would compare two nearby inns with similar reputations, staying two weeks apart. I stayed at the same plan and room type, and stayed on the same day of the week. The service is similar, but not as relentlessly attentive as at Futari Shizu. The clientele is not as concentrated on elderly customers as at Futari Shizu, but seems to be of all ages, but the number of guests is less than half that of Shizu, perhaps due to the size of the hotel. The baths are similar, but the temperature of the water at Yamabuki is better, and you can take a bath in the indoor bath even late at night (of course, if your room has a hot spring, you can take a bath anytime). The overall renovation at Yamabuki is a little inferior, but I'm grateful that you can sleep on a normal bed instead of a wooden bed like at Futari Shizu. Now, about the food. At Yamabuki, all the dishes were easy to eat, the salt concentration was uniform, and I felt it was elegant. Yamabuki won by a landslide. Given how different the food is, if I had to choose again I would go for Yamabuki."
