Kwanza hotel by sunrise is new and modern.The hotel is beautifully located with spectacular views the ocean.Its perfect place to take a good rest with a nice atmosphere.The hotel is very clean.The food is tasty and varied.The most important is the staff in this hotel ,they are very nice ,polite and obligin,always smiling. Jambo jambo We took our honeymoon here & what can we say. It was perfect for us. Hotel- basic, very clean & constantly being improved, mended expanded. Food- delicious, well cooked & nicely presented. (Dinner hall can be a little warm but what do you expect in a hot country like this) Pool- the natural spring water (big one) was lovely. Nice, quiet & relaxing. A few bugs around but nothing that will hurt you. We didn’t use the small one. The Beach/coral- great if you like to walk & look at sea life. (Take water shoes as it can be hard on your feet) The bars- all served a good selection of drinks, cocktails, sprits & soft drinks. The wine is lovely too. Staff- very attentive but not over the top. The Masi are great, they have great knowledge of the island, sea life & nature. Normally only want to chat, some may try & sell you bits, but if you don’t want to chat to the a polite no thank & they will leave you to your business. Joy from guest relations is lovely & very knowledgeable about the island & its culture. Nothing apart from the drinks is cold here. Which is understandable as you are in one of the hottest countries on earth. Please do your reach on the country. It’s is not a luxurious place & there are bits, places & parts of the island that are run down, not as well kept as you maybe used to. I have found a few reviews on here to be rather offensive. In fact very rude & arrogant about the island, its people & culture. Shame on them. Asante sana to all.

Fabulous setting , wonderful staff and great food . We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to others - walking out from the hotel at low tide was a highlight and we saw puffer fish and box fish and a lion fish as well - but you need reef shoes . Rooms were clean and well laid out and little pool in the centre was attractive and fun . Everyone made us welcome . Just a word of warning and it probably applies in most places in Zanzibar . When we ate or drunk in the Hotel everything was presented to us in Tanzanian Shillings but to pay on card we had to pay in dollars and the exchange rate was very poor . On top of that the bank added 5 % ! So it leaves a bad taste ! Just be warned have lots of cash on you and lots of dollars

We’ve enjoyed our stay at Aluna! The staff was great and the beach was nearby! The food was delicious and we recommend the hotel to other travellers! Paje is a great place to stay as this location at the island is not too crowded and has also great restaurant in the vicinity to give it a try!

OK, there for one night only so the review is based on that. At the end of the day, the pros outweighed the cons but the cons caused us a fair degree of discomfort. However, lets go with the pros first. Our room was excellent and featured an outdoor plunge pool which, unfortunately, we did not use, the same applying to the attractive infinity pool. A sunset drink on the jetty was good though the sunset was a bit of a let down. Food was OK in the restaurant but not great and the attitude of the staff was a bit variable - some being quite affable, others quite cold. However, the main cons were as follows. On an early arrival, we were told the room would be available at two rather than the normal three o'clock which we were pleased with. So, in the interim, they suggested we take a shower in the spa which was a welcomed suggestion given our long journey. Problem was, the showers were not working. The 2 o'clock check in turned out to be 3.30 by which time we were totally hot and bothered with no excuse or apology being offered by the reception personnel who had made the promises. So, given the one night stay, the 3 rating may be harsh but we both felt it should have been better.

BEWARE!! Lets start with the good points: this hotel is amazing!! The facilities are the best we found in the area, the two pools are better than any of the other hotels, staff are generally amazing and very friendly and the food is incredible, and reasonably priced. The rooms / bungalows are cute and spacious enough for two people. I travelled with my friend, one of us had the main bed and the other had the sofa bed. The main bed is very hard so I preferred the sofa bed for this reason. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the whole hotel! The pool at the front of the hotel gets very hot during the day as it does not have the breeze from the beach, but is slightly quieter. The pool at the rear of the hotel, facing the beach is just beautiful. it slopes down like a beach so is deeper at the far end of each section and the infinity feature makes the water fall down the steps between the two levels of the pools....great photo opportunities. Now for the not so good points: the wifi and phone signal in general within the rooms is terrible, you will need to sit outside to maintain a good signal. It was hit and miss whether we would have working AC all day (especially in the evenings when we were getting ready to go for meals, or trying to sleep) as the power would fail. We were told this is due to the Government turning the electricity off; the hotel does have back up generators but I don't think the AC runs from these (I don't know how true this is, but we were told about the Government issue in multiple places). The main issue we had with this hotel was when we were trying to checkout. Thankfully we had hours to spare as we didn't have to leave until the middle of the night to get our flight so I tried to checkout around 9pm (leaving the hotel at 1:30am to go to the airport). During our stay we had eaten at the hotel restaurant, had drinks etc so we knew we would have some money to pay to settle the bill. However, the hotel tried to overcharge us by approximately $400. This included Government taxes (at $18.23 per night....which they later told our booking agent were only $2-$4 per night) and invoices for items we hadn't ordered. After having to get our booking agent involved at past 10pm on the evening, we finally got the issue resolved around midnight. However, I have a feeling we were not the first people they had tried this on and counted on us leaving our check out so late that we would have no choice but paid the bill. So whilst I recommend this hotel in general, please beware of the checkout and being over charged.
