"The Galley of Lorne is trying hard. Effort has been made to revamp the rooms, and although the decoration was not to our taste (black bedding…!) the room was comfortable and clean, although it is slightly disconcerting to have people walking past close to the window. Major refurbishment is going on to what we assume is the dining room. The staff we met were friendly and helpful - one young man seemed to be acting as receptionist, barman and waiter at table and it looked as though staffing was an issue. Evening meals were OK, but some aspects of breakfast were not. For the amount we were paying I don’t expect to see tea and coffee in flasks on the counter - surely it is not impossible to provide people with a pot of tea at the table? The location is good - we were able to walk in the evening and a short car journey took us to even better walking nearby. The local village shop has a very good cafe attached, and if we were to return to the Galley of Lorne we would probably do so on a room only basis, and eat breakfast there."
