8 Owls B&B

Glastonbury|0.09km from city centre
Stayed with my two children on a Saturday night. We used the check in details and our initial reaction to the accommodation was that it was wonderful. Very spacious, clean etc. The bathroom was a little disappointing with paint and a shower panel coming away from the wall. The kitchenette was well stocked with all you would need to cook meals for a longer stay (obviously minus the food). The trundle bed was a nice touch in the main 'loving' space. I've never stayed in Glastonbury before and it was somewhat of a last minute booking the Thursday before when I found a discount through booking.com. So I'll admit I didn't do thorough research of the area that the b&b is located in. (So taking some responsibility here). When we arrived I realised that it was literally right next to the Assembly Rooms (I had no idea what this building was used for), it was heaving outside the b&b entrance. I didn't think much of it as it looked like families - we went inside and I realised that the main bedroom window was situated right on the side of the alley next to the assembly rooms, again, I thought it would just be open during the day and that the massive amount of noise coming in to the room wouldn't be an issue. Until I saw a sign about an event that was taking place later that evening, so I did a quick Google and soon learned that a band or two were due to be playing that evening in the assembly rooms. From 8pm swaths of people were arriving. Loud, somewhat lairy and drunk. The window in the main bedroom has no purpose other than to block rain and wind. Every single thing taking place outside can be heard as though you are in the alley. The noise of drunken arguing, shouting, dogs barking etc went on til 1am at least. I may be wrong here, but I feel as though the owners should be making people aware either through their website (or third party websites) and when potential guests call to book a room that the b&b is situated next to a music venue. I also feel that some soundproofing and better quality windows wouldn't go a miss. My children and I barely slept. We then had to drag ourselves over to a pub to have breakfast (my fault for not checking that this would be the case, I just saw that breakfast was included and thought 'great'). I absolutely won't be returning, which is a shame as the accommodation itself is lovely, I just feel that there should be more transparency and communication regarding the neighboring buildings and what they are used for, particularly for family bookings.

The Cross at Croscombe

WOW ! Our daughter got married on 27th August and as a family along with the grooms family we needed a base to stay in for the duration of the celebrations. We stayed for two nights but really wished it could have been longer. How very lucky we were to have booked here. Terri made us feel so welcome from the minute we stepped foot in the door. Greeted with kindness and a smile, The building and its furnishings are beautiful. The whole place is absolutely immaculate and as you land Terri invites you for a pot of tea and homemade scones in the beautiful courtyard garden. The rooms are spotless and contain everything you need and more for an excellent nights sleep. Terri’s breakfasts are simply amazing. An excellent array of cereals, nuts , fresh fruit, croissants and yoghurt followed by quite possibly the best cooked breakfast I’ve ever had anywhere. Our son enjoyed using the well stocked honesty bar and there was ample tea and coffee in the room. Nothing is too much trouble for Terri and this small but perfect hotel/ B&B is just simply OUTSTANDING Thank you Terri x

First off. Staff were lovely. Very professional and friendly. Nice room away from the restaurant so very quiet. Spacious shower room. Our little dog loved his treats and pawsecco. Stayed three nights and ate in restaurant. The whisky bar and sitting area was cosy especially when they lit the fire for us. Food good, breakfast very nice. Sausages offered to our little boy although I tended to share mine as the food was plentiful. Felt quite relaxed here with our little dog. Would definitely recommend.

The Staff at the hotel was very friendly & helpful all the way through our stay, the food was great, and not expensive at all. The hotel room was cozy and very clean-as well as the rest of the hotel. We visited the caves and we was given % off our tickets.
Bear Inn, Somerset by Marston's Inns

Poor quality of food, lukewarm dishes, items missing from menu description, dirty cutlery. This is such a shame as we have used this pub for years and had excellent food but since the change in management standards have plummeted. We tried just after the change and it was poor but put this down to getting sorted, however 3 months down the line and it’s actually worse.paid extra £2 for a mixed meat roast but why? Only had 1 slice of pork and 1 slice of beef, others on our table had 2 slices of meat of their choice so why the difference in price when I got nothing extra. Manager just shrugged and said yeah, we’ve had a few complaints about that so I’ll pass it onto head office.we used to have pudding, coffee and another drink but chose to leave and have coffee and cake elsewhere and unfortunately will not be going back again.I hate to see pubs close and try and support where I can but still expect to receive a lot better than what we got
Camelot Retreat - Tor View
4.2/511 Reviews
The Camelot Retreat is a wonderful welcoming space. It is extremely clean, and has a very spiritual yet homely atmosphere. The room I had was warm and inviting, with everything that someone could need. Breakfast was very convivial, and the facilities provided (with a kitchen and cereal bar where you can make breakfast to suit your dietary requirements and tastes) were excellent. This is a great place to meet and connect with like-minded souls if you want to. The location is ideally placed for excursions to the Tor, Chalice Well, and for strolls into town to take in the sights and shops.
The Ancient Gatehouse & Rugantino Restaurant
4/536 Reviews
Listening to the bells of the cathedral in the morning, I wake to the bells of the cathedral at night, and the sound will not feel a little disturbing your emotions. The anti-er will have a warmer and more cordial, six hundred years of history. The old house is so touching. In the morning, it is a pure English style, and the Italian cuisine for dinner is also a feast of color and flavor!
