Palios Stathmos ★★★★

📍 PALIOS STATHMOS, Milies

"My husband and I were looking for a peaceful escape, and we were so lucky to discover the hotel Palios Stathmos! The warm hospitality of Sophia and Jo made us feel instantly at home. The renovated rooms, with their minimal aesthetic, offered a calm and restful stay. While the hotel no longer operates a restaurant, this only adds to the serene atmosphere — the only sounds you’ll hear are the gentle flow of water and birdsong. Breakfast is a delight, especially the homemade pies — not to be missed! Just a short and scenic stroll away lies the central square of the village of Milies, where you’ll find charming traditional tavernas and cafés. This place is perfect for anyone seeking true relaxation. It’s excellent value for money, although the overall experience is truly priceless. We’ll definitely be back soon!"

📍 12, Kala Nera, Milies

"Our family of six went to Volos/Kala Nera for a family wedding and stayed at this beautiful family run hotel that was built by the patriarch himself. This family is generous and consistent in their service excellence. Aspa, would go above and beyond to provide us with delicious and high quality breakfasts and to assist us in any way possible. It was a joy to stay there and so it was sad to leave. There is no doubt that shall all things go well and we are able to visit Greece again, we will stay at Aspa's place."

"An amazing gem in the heart of Kala Nera! Surrounded by fig and chestnut trees, this little place consisting of 9 apartments (each one inspired by the 9 muses of mythology) is ideal for couples and/or families consisting of children who want to spend their holidays somewhere simple, quite and beautiful! Apartments are really clean (the staff makes sure to clean and inspect them every day) and the breakfast (which is different every day) is exceptional as Aspa who is the owner makes sure to accommodate every taste and need! Only a 5 minute walk from the sea and restaurants. Definitely recommended if you like nature, sea, sun and good quality Greek food without the ripping off tourist approach!"

"We had a nice room (room 4 ) in the front building with a private balcony facing the sea, which was basically fine for us (although the shower did take a long time to produce hot water). I believe that only rooms 3 and 4 have their own private balconies. The separate rear building seemed to be reserved for self-catering. Breakfast is served outside facing the sea, which is a delightful setting. But, as breakfast is brought directly out to you from the kitchen, there is no real choice and it could be a bit random as to what was produced, with various items we didn't want and without several items we did want such as cereal, fruit salad, decent bread etc. The main criticism, though, relates to check-out as, when we tried to check out after breakfast, we were told we'd have to pay for our stay in cash rather than card as no-one could deal with a card payment until about 1pm when reception staff would arrive. We'd not been warned about this before and, not having the requisite amount in cash, and facing a long car journey to Athens, we obviously couldn't wait so long (nearly 4 hours) to check-out! The problem was only solved when someone from a neighbouring coffee shop/ restaurant was eventually called over to handle the card payment. She was trying to be helpful but the person from the hotel we were dealing with - who had served us breakfast and always been very friendly previously - had by this point became noticeably unfriendly, as if blaming us for what were her/the hotel's own shortcomings."

Levantes Villas ★★★★
"I dont like to give low ranking but in this case I have now choice. To start with - there are two showers, but the one on the ground floor is extra tiny maybe 50×50 cm. You cant turn around in this shower or bend. Also the shower upstairs is only slightly bigger. The water pressure is low - so we had a very bad showering experience throughout the stay. Secondly, the stairs are extra steep and dangerous. My daughter slid on them. Our neighbours were a family with a grandfather. He couldn't go up or down the stairs so he was forced to sleep on the sofa in the living room. On top of that we had an electricity buz during our stay coming from the electricity board in the kitchen. Is was sometimes extra laud that you can hear all over the villa - this was not ok for the staff - sometimes you can hear it only on the ground floor- this is ok for the staff - not acceptable to me. In addition we had a load noise in the room on the bottom floor for two evenings- apparantly due to a pumping related issue that needed drain. And..one morning we were woken by the gardners before 9 AM - very early in Kala Nera way of living - then when we had our breakfast on the porch- 3 gardners were trimming grass and bushes around us - which forced us back in the room. Also - you get very little in the room - tiolet paper is filled only once every 3 days. We needed to ask for more. No coffee in the room e.g Most of the above was known by the management in resl time - we got only small gestures of compensation at the end - drinks by the pool and farewell cheese pie - but this was very far from a real comparison pn the totalling events of our stay. Kala Nera is very nice and I highly recommend staying at this beach, just in a different hotel."
