"Absolutely unacceptable. I would never recommend this guesthouse to anyone. While asleep, while we were asleep someone managed to enter and steal 3 apple devices and jewellery. To make matters worse, we discovered that there are no security cameras at the property, making it almost impossible to identify who was responsible. However, after reading previous guest reviews, we found reports of similar thefts, making us question the accuracy of what we were told and the seriousness with which guests safety is treated. I do not recommend this guesthouse to anyone if you value your safety and personal belongings! What a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!"

"I stayed for one night. When I checked in was told breakfast started at 5.45. I went downstairs at 6am and breakfast was not yet ready, it took me 20 minutes to get an omelet after complaining. No apologies from the staff for the constraints this caused. Actually, I was late for my early morning commitment and had to rush eating. Not happy with the service."

"I consider myself one of the oldest customers of the Mercure Hotel since many years, when the city of nelspruit was being built and one of the reasons was for the location and for being one of the most affordable and well-regarded hotels at the time. Unfortunately, I write as a constructive criticism that I don't have the same opinion, first because of the fact that it remains stagnant in time (cleanliness of the place, decoration , wifi service and quality of service) and mainly because of what happened in my last stay. Less than a month that did, during the stay for a few days it was paid in full ( 4 days), for other reasons we had to leave early on 2nd day . we had been told on the instructions of the hotel manager that the refund would be made by bank and only after 2 weeks at our insistence by email it was replied that it would not be possible."

"Booked a "Luxury Self-Catering Family Suite", but have to say it was absolutely not luxury! A relatively dark cellar room, with windows out to a carport or a narrow passageway. All in all, the room was no more than "just OK", a bit worn and with mold on the bathroom ceiling. Self-catering is possible, but why are there no kitchen utensils in the cupboards? The swimming pool was also not particularly inviting, dark and the paving stones around it were dirty and covered in algae."

"I stayed a total of 3 nights at Harmony Guesthouse, 1 night before my overnight Kruger camping safari, then 2 more nights after the safari. The location of the guesthouse is in a quiet neighborhood away from the busy center. It is gated so the place is more secure. The property has a nice swimming pool, though I didn’t get to use it since it was still winter time, plus I was busy with tours all day. As for the room, it is very spacious, bright, and clean, & the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern & clean, and the hot water shower was fantastic. They serve English breakfast for an additional fee, but it is worth it as the portions were big & it was very good. The guesthouse does have a generator, which helped a lot, since the power went out, due to South Africa’s load-shedding schedules, a few times during my stay. Only downside for me was that since I didn’t have a car, I couldn’t walk around the area or to the city center to buy what I needed since I was advised that it’s not safe. My flight into Nelspruit arrived late in the afternoon so I arrived late to the guesthouse. I was then hoping to walk around to get dinner; luckily, I had some snacks with me that sufficed. But for those with a car, there is parking at the guesthouse for convenience."

"This was a very disappointing stay on a recent visit to SA. I got bad vibes from the start when we arrived at the location in a suburban neighborhood where the compound was surrounded by high walls with barbwire. The (owner?) staff seemed stunned and unprepared by the arrival of our 13-person party. The check-in process was extremely slow as they struggled to assign names to room. There was no explanation or orientation about the place/grounds/amenities, etc. They keys were old-school with comically large plastic tags attached that were impossible to fit in a pocket without removing the tag. The rooms themselves were adequate and appeared clean, but many problems existed throughout our parties' rooms including: heat not working, leaking plumbing, one room with no curtain or blind which required the use of a blanket to cover the window, TV screens smaller than a laptop, burned out light bulbs; in one case 3/4 bulbs not working in the bathroom. Meals were of decent quality, but again the staff seemed disoriented by our party and struggled to keep up. WiFi was ok but the host was confused about how to access it. Some people asked if there was laundry service available, which, to be fair, was not a service offered. They tried to accommodate the request anyway, but one family in our party found that there laundry had been returned to there room WET and then the wet laundry was laid on the bed, which of course soaked the bedding! Another family's laundry was apparently taken to a laundromat and they were charged a huge amount. Honestly the lodge should have just said no laundry service available. On our second night, the staff prepared a traditional African Braai. While the food was decent, members of our party reported seeing the man working the grill while smoking a cigarette with a very long ash hanging from his mouth directly over the grill. My nephew ordered a beer and when he received it, he quickly opened it and took a sip. Then he realized the beer tasted flat and there was no fizz. He checked the bottle carefully and noticed it was only about 2/3 full despite him having taken only a small slip. We asked about leaving the premises to explore and were told it was unsafe and that we should not leave the compound. I personally asked the host about the lack of heat in my room. She accompanied me to my room and tried the remote control herself, then told me, "some of the heat doesn't work. I'll have "him" (presumably the staff maintenance guy/barbecuer/cook) look at it". "He" never did! Despite being fairly cold weather with no heat available, windows were left open by the cleaning staff. In at least one case the window mechanism was broken and the window couldn't be closed all the way. The only way I could get warm after returning to my chilly room was to take a hot shower, though there was a sign in the bathroom requesting no long showers be taken.
