📍 Plage d'Ambondrona, Nosy Be

"As soon as our payment left our account, we immediately received a message saying there will be works at the property from Monday until Wednesday to install new batteries as a back up for power cuts. Why was this not advertised prior to taking our money, underhanded in our opinion. As we run a business it was essential to have a good WIFI and concerned of the work, asked if it would affect the signal. We were then offered free simcards to connect on mobile data and free breakfasts while the works were been undertaken. When we arrived at the property through a gate only to be met with people cooking on the left hand of the reception and people doing their washing on the right with water spewing towards the accommodation. No mention of the simcards which we thought would be available when we arrived. Next day we asked for the sim cards only to be asked for 12 euros to purchase? Not only that but breakfast was added in the evening bill. When questioned about the charging of the sim card, miraculously the works had not started therefore we needed to pay “in contradiction to Swiss Freds message”. Strange as they made such an effort printing out on paper in the hotel room advising about the works. They finally agreed to give the sim cards however one apparently was not working but it transpired they were only willing to give one not two. One of the staff even promised to have the other sim card working next day but then decided to take the day off, fanning the flames of frustration. After spending £420.00 for 5 nights you would have thought the owner would honour his offer and provide both cards, as promised. Quite happy to sell 2 cards for 75000.00mga each but once realised they offered for free only prepared to give one. Fred also has mentioned he has fibre installed into the property but with speeds mainly at 1.9mbps and connecting to the Alma Hotel next door is very unlikely. Thursday after the alleged works the island suffered a power cut and low and behold no backup power kicked in. A couple of hours after the power came back on (the island) we returned to the hotel to be greeted by darkness. The only property without power was the only one that even mentioned about Powercuts and how they have all the backups in place. Fred said he had spent 50’000 on solar panels etc, probably best to get a refund then. In the end we went to a hotel a few doors down which had excellent Wifi and worked from there. I advised Fred that we will be giving a poor review and his response to this is in the picture, make your own judgement. This is the response from a child and not a professional hotelier. The accommodation has severe design flaws. If staying below with the swim up pool there is nowhere you can sit to admire the view, you either have to sit in the cold pool with a concrete slab looking at deckchairs or the seating area staring at the wall. The shack like restaurant is also set down so you have a nice view of the verge, not much else. "

Hôtel Villa les Orchidées ★★★★

📍 J635+487, Nosy Be

"Pros: Spacious room (we had a Big Panoramic Suite with Sea and Garden View) with a large bathroom (shower) and a huge terrace with a stunning view! The room has everything you need (air conditioning, fan, kettle, refrigerator), and the bathroom fixtures are new and in excellent condition. The bed is large. Everything is great. The hotel is very clean and tidy. The hotel staff is very friendly and eager to please. They arrange airport transfers (80,000 local), and you can book excursions (the price is the same as everywhere else). They try to help with any questions. Cons: There's almost no private grounds, only a small but lovely pool with 5-6 sun loungers (always available). It's a 6-minute walk down to the sea, but the sea isn't beautiful; the bottom is muddy, so no one swims. Cons: The breakfast is very poor (pancakes, yogurt, samsa, buns, some fruit, drinks); you have to pay extra for scrambled eggs and omelets (5,600 local). Water is not provided in the room. The toiletries provided are only soap. But the gorgeous view and huge room make up for the downsides :)"

"Lovely hotel, in central location, very close to the best restaurants and the beach. The decor and finishes were pretty decent. The room had all that was needed and was well cleaned. The staff was excellent. The restaurant had good food and quick service. The only downside is that the restaurants and bars nearby can get quite noisy until 1or 2am, but that didn't prevent me from sleeping."

"设施一流,景色迷人,但服务人员真的很非洲,不要期盼太多。 Facility is great.nice infinity pool to swim and fabulous bey view. Room also big with a very good bathtub . Try their massage you be surprised. Let’s talk about things need improvement. 1.mid night to 2am there’s construction knocking on going in restaurant which is right beside my room. I heard it loud and clear i just didn’t dare to believe this is what happened in a high end hotel. It’s common sense not to make noises during night time any level hotel. in the end i ran out 2am to restaurant to order them stop make noises at this hr. so they stopped. 2.then again 6am gardener is walking around besides my room several times. I can hear very clearly he is walking around and watering. Is that necessary to do gardening so early when ppl still try sleeping? really needs to train their employees to v some basic knowledge what not to do."

Manga Soa Lodge Hotels in Nosy Be

Manga Soa Lodge

"We spent 15 unforgettable days in a relaxing and rejuvenating place. Océane and Romain, thanks to their kindness, their attentiveness and their advice, allowed us to fully enjoy this stay. The staff (reception, maintenance, kitchen, cleaning, etc.) is wonderful and contributes to the well-being felt during our vacation. We were looking for a natural and preserved place and we found it without air conditioning and the weariness of large hotels in France, sometimes. I hope this place will remain this beautiful for a long time to come."

Emeraude Lodge Hotels in Nosy Be

Emeraude Lodge

"Let me start by saying that we never even got to Emeraude Lodge. Vincenzo contacted us after booking a room at his lodge through ***********, and we later asked if it was possible to organize a tour of the north. Ten days before our departure, Vincenzo asked us to pay for the entire tour in cash (about €1,300), plus the room. After having me cancel my reservation through ***********, he wanted me to pay him in advance at the same price as the booking, but under the table. Since we refused to leave with all that cash, and especially to pay such a sum under the table, Vincenzo's response, I must say, wasn't the most polite or customer-friendly, as if paying him the entire first day in cash was more than we were entitled to. Despite this, we ultimately had to cancel the tour and stay for family reasons. Obviously, we weren't able to get back the 30% deposit we'd sent weeks earlier, and Vincenzo showed zero availability and a great deal of rudeness. We had to fight to get at least the deposit back for the room at Emeraude Lodge, which, if I had kept the reservation with ***********, I could have easily cancelled free of charge. In short, they're not exactly brilliant at customer service, so much so that now that we're going to Madagascar, we've relied on others to organize the Northern tour, and, I must say, they've provided a completely different experience (aside from the significantly lower price)!"

"Newly opened boutique hotel with 4 modern rooms. We had the pleasure of being their first guests. From the beginning, the communication was spectacular. We were greeted warmly by Anne Marie and Pieter upon our arrival, shown to our room and offered a welcome drink. Right away, we felt as welcome there as if we were family. The property is neatly manicured and taken care of with attention to detail. They offer a nightly homemade dinner special. However, we were planning to go out for dinner, but ran into issues with our flight causing us to be on the phone for hours. When hearing this, our hosts offered to make and bring us dinner even though it was nearing 10pm in the evening! Truly going above and beyond. They offer food, beverages and personal airport transfer all for very reasonable prices. Above all else, Anne Marie and Pieter are truly likable and genuine in nature and we would not hesitate to return to stay with them in the future!"

"I have just returned from a stay at the Royal Beach Hotel, I was there for six wonderful days and had an absolutely amazing experience. As a solo female traveller, I felt completely safe and well looked after throughout my stay. Every single staff member I encountered was efficient, friendly, and always willing to help, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment I arrived and went out of their way to assist me whenever needed. A special mention must go to the Reception Manager, Dalson who was extremely helpful when I had a query. He dealt with it quickly, professionally, and efficiently, which I really appreciated and which reflected the high standard of service at the hotel. My room was clean and comfortable and I thought the beach bags that were placed in each room for guests to use were a lovely touch. The hotel was extremely clean and the grounds were also well maintained. The pool was lovely and warm enough to swim in comfortably. The food was lovely and fresh and there was always a good variety to choose from. The entertainment team were also fantastic—engaging with the guests, energetic, and making sure there was always a great atmosphere, another special mention must go to Jo Jo. The hotel is in a perfect location for excursions and also close to downtown. Overall, it was a wonderful stay from start to finish, and I would highly recommend the Royal Beach Hotel for anyone visiting Nosy Be. I would return to this hotel without hesitation, keep up the excellent work."

"I just returned from this fantastic place, where we stayed for only two days, but we wished we could have stayed much longer. The hotel is run by young Italians, friendly and very attentive to their guests' needs. The atmosphere is intimate and family-friendly. All rooms overlook the beautiful, large pool, which is always clean and where we enjoyed sipping excellent cocktails. A tree-lined path of about 40 meters leads to the picturesque beach facing Sakatia Island, right in front of the bay where turtles nest. The resort's cuisine is excellent; breakfast, prepared by the sweet Agnese, is plentiful and continental. The hotel has a boat, and you can book excursions directly with them. They helped us explore the area and enjoy an authentic experience. All of this made our stay unforgettable. Highly recommended hotel, we will definitely return."

Hotel Mahita Tsara

"This is the fanciest place I have been in 7 weeks in Madagascar! The rooms are extremely big and nice with a fantastic atmosphere. The view is stunning as you see a bit of land and the ocean. The service is really friendly and they help a lot. You get your food on your very spacious balcony and the food is very tasty. The pool is very refreshing and gives a good view as well over the ocean as well. The only thing that was a shame is that there is not really a common room or bar, but for the rest this is an amazing hotel on Nosy Be."

VOI Amarina Resort Hotels in Nosy Be

VOI Amarina Resort

"Welcoming structure with attention to detail. We stayed as a group with friends (20 people) in superior rooms (about 40 m2) with bathroom equipped with shower, bathtub and separate toilet. Excellent quality cuisine with grilled catch of the day always present. Friendly staff available to meet guests' needs. We used the laundry service after an excursion in the forest which had reduced our clothing smeared with mud and noted the perfect cleanliness of the items upon return. Unfortunately we spent the first two days of our stay between the room, the bar and the dining room as a pouring and incessant rain persecuted us for over 48 hours but when the sun came out, which then never abandoned us, we fully enjoyed the wonderful landscape. The entertainment is present but never nagging and in any case the kids worked hard to cheer up the guests with various tournaments and shows. We took advantage of the diving although, due to the bad weather in the first few days, we were unable to fully enjoy the seabed due to poor visibility and a less than optimal sea. If our stay was pleasant and unforgettable, I would like to compliment those who make this structure efficient, tidy, with attention to the smallest details, namely Marco, the director of the Amarina, always present and available at any time of the day. As I have personally reported, an orchestra plays well when all the musicians are directed by a good maestro and this is what we have seen in the working group that Marco and his staff bring the structure to maximum industriousness and productivity on a daily basis. We are already thinking about the next holiday even though this one only ended a few days ago and we will certainly give it a little thought when we return to the Amarina, in the meantime we advise anyone who still has doubts to abandon them and book a stay in this enchanting place."

"Surprised and delighted. The hotel, however, was empty. Two out of four days, there was no one else there. Transfer from/to the airport. Gifts upon check-out. Welcome juice upon check-in. Polite. They try to please. That's rare these days. Safe."

"Village of medium size, where everything is within reach. Beautiful, spacious rooms, relatively recently built and with modern furnishings. Excellent cleanliness, both in the rooms and in the common areas and green areas, always impeccable. As for the food, it can certainly be improved: as an Italian in a Veratour village, I would have expected more, especially for the pasta/first course corner (2 choices are really a bit few) and the "sweet" breakfast. In any case, nothing to complain about, you eat well and there is a choice. The sea point in front of the village is not great, but then again, you are almost always on an excursion, so you don't use it that much. However, if someone was thinking of a more "sedentary" holiday then I wouldn't recommend it... sure, the water is clean, but it's certainly not the sea you expect to find in Madagascar! What you see on the small nearby islands is completely different... enough to leave your heart! The beach is beautiful, long enough for a walk and fairly clean. The excursions are all beautiful and each magical in its own way.. do as many as possible! Be careful about the period you choose.. a good choice is the first week of October, when the temperature is good (max 30° during the day, 21-22° in the evening) and sunset is at 17. A little early, but in the following weeks, when the days get longer, the rainy season also begins!"

"My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Blue Velvet Hotel. The hotel is just steps away from the charming beach of Ambatoloaka where boats leave for excursions. It is a modern hotel with very comfortable rooms equipped with all the comforts: air conditioning, fans, Wi-Fi, fridge and microwave. Our room also had a furnished terrace with a view of the city. I would like to highlight the cleanliness of the rooms (with linen changed every day) and the exquisite kindness of the staff who welcomed us every time like family and were always available to satisfy our every request. Just steps away from the nightlife of Ambatoloaka we were able to take beautiful walks to discover local shops and restaurants. Excellent breakfast with a choice of different menus. Thank you Blue Velvet, we hope to be able to return again."

"Let’s talk about the advantages first: the restaurant has a good view and can see the sea. The room has a bathtub. Let’s talk about shortcomings 1-The location is very poor. There is no beach. To get to the street, you need to walk uphill for fifteen minutes in the dark on a dirt road full of wild dogs. It is very inconvenient to go out or come back at night. 2- The guy at the front desk didn't tell the truth. The various travel items and car rental prices quoted changed from time to time. The price started from the ground up. One minute, it was 42 pounds, and the next minute it was 72 pounds. I took a tuk-tuk to see the macaques. He said that the round trip cost was 120,000 local currency, and 30,000 was enough for me to hail the bus myself. After joining the group, I found that the travel items he mentioned were completely inconsistent and the condition of the boat was also very poor. 3-During my stay, I had bad juice twice for breakfast, bad yogurt once, and meat that was not very fresh once. The room was not cleaned one day during our stay. The swimming pool is quite dirty, so it's okay to take pictures, but there are all kinds of dirty things floating in it when you stand in it. In short: at first glance, the room looked okay, but it was all a routine and the conditions were limited. One of the staff at the front desk was untrustworthy and very uncomfortable to deal with."

Marina Hotel Ambatoloaka ★★★
"Marina Hotel, Ambatoloaka, Nosy Be Even a five-star palace has a few little flaws, so for the very affordable price of a night at Hotel Marina in Ambatoloaka – Nosy Be, you can rest assured that, like most guests, you’ll only remember the good stuff — and there’s plenty of it! First of all: cleanliness! Absolutely spotless. Don’t be surprised if you see both the staff and even some guests walking barefoot across the shiny tiled floors! The room, the bathroom, the brightly colored bed linens (changed every two days, along with the towels) — everything is pristine. I stayed in Room 8 on the second floor: a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean and sunsets that are simply out of this world! The owner, Mr. Christian, and, I believe, the front desk manager — a stunning young lady named Didi — are kindness itself. They greet you and help you with genuine smiles straight from the heart. Take my word for it — you’ll love it!"
