"This is a modern ryokan on the beach at Takahama. They have a shuttle bust which picked us up from Wakasa-Takahama station. The rooms are traditional with tatami flooring and futon beds. Each room has a private toilet and a sink, but the shower/bath is a public one on the top floor. The bath has a great view of the beach and the Sea of Japan. Breakfast was an amazing Japanese meal with many tasty things to try. If you like futons, public bathing, and Japanese food, then this place will be wonderful. The owner/manage speaks English."

"I used it for the first time this time. The building was well cleaned and was a very cozy space with sophisticated designer furniture. The room with large windows had a great view and was able to go up to the rooftop, enjoying a lot of open time. I stayed with 4 family members, but when I made a reservation, it was stated that there were 2 beds, so I thought it was a little cramped (laughs), but I asked you to prepare an additional mattress and an extra bed. I was able to rest comfortably and comfortably. In addition, the environment where digital detox is easy was impressive, and board games were rented, so I forgot the time with my family and spent time slowly. The drip coffee in the room was delicious and it was time to take a breath. This time I stayed without meals, but it was very delicious because I had a pizza take out at the restaurant next door. Next time, I definitely wanted to use a plan with meals. The location was right in front of the sea, and the drug store was on the other side of the road, so I could get what I needed immediately and it was very attractive."

"This was our first time staying at this hotel as a family of four for a summer beach trip. The reviews were mixed, so after seeing it for myself, I can say it was great! Opinions vary depending on what you're looking for in a place to stay, so if you're looking for something different, you might want to stay somewhere else. I had a great time, and my whole family loved it. [Location] It's just under a four-minute walk (measured) to the beautiful Wakasa Wada Beach, Asia's first beach to receive the international environmental certification "BLUE FLAG," making it very convenient for swimming. While there's basically nothing nearby, there are convenience stores (Lawson and Family Mart) less than a two-minute drive away. Although it's located on a national highway, we weren't bothered by car noise at all. We could hear the railroad crossings along the road from inside the room. [Building] It's old. It's a Showa-era building. But that adds to its charm, and I really enjoyed it! I thought the kids might be put off, but they didn't mind at all and were delighted. It felt like returning to grandma's house in the countryside. There's also a beautiful renovated old house right next door that's available for rent. [Facilities] The first floor has a dining room (private rooms), a women's bath, a toilet (men's only on the first floor), and what appears to be the innkeeper's living space. Guests stay on the second floor. At first glance, there are several Kyoto-style rooms ranging from 4.5 to 8 tatami mats, and one family rented two rooms together. There are also guest rooms in a separate building. The men's toilet is only on the first floor, which is a bit inconvenient. However, it has a new and clean washlet and an automatic toilet seat. The entire building is well-maintained. The refrigerator is shared. The pot and cups are also shared, but coffee is available. There's also a washing machine outside, so you can throw your laundry in the machine after returning from the beach. [Room] It's old. It's an 8-tatami room. It's separated from the hallway by a sliding door and cannot be locked from the outside. You can hear everything from the room across the hallway and people walking down the hallway, so if you're looking for a quiet, private space, I recommend staying elsewhere. I believe that outside noise is one of the charms of a guesthouse, so this place had a lovely atmosphere. The room only had a TV, a dressing table, a clothes rack, and a low table. The TV and air conditioner were new. The lack of a safe in the room was a negative point. Amenities included only a bath towel, face towel, toothbrush, and yukata. A futon set was provided, but you had to lay it out yourself. The pillows were firm. The room was well-cleaned and I had a pleasant stay. [Bath] The men's bath is in a separate building. The bathtub is old and tiled, but it's reasonably spacious and comfortable. It had the feel of a beachside guesthouse, old but charming. This bath can also be used as a family bath. The women's bath is on the first floor, renovated, new, and very clean! Incidentally, there's a shower outside the men's bath, where you can wash off the sand and seawater after coming back from the beach. When we returned from the beach around 3:00 PM, we were very grateful that they allowed us to take a bath early. There's a hot spring facility at a roadside station about a five-minute drive from the inn, and it seems like many guests also go there. [Meals] Dinner consisted of appetizers, tempura, salad, sashimi, simmered dishes, teriyaki scallops, vinegared dishes, and more, with delicious rice. The soup was unique, containing grapes! It was a special dish from the head chef, made with grapes grown on-site. Everything was delicious, but if I had to choose, I'd ask for a little more sashimi, since we're so close to the sea, and for some local specialties. Breakfast was a classic Japanese breakfast, but it was delicious. [Overall Review] It seems like it used to be run by an elderly couple, but now it's their son? The young owner, with his deep voice, seems to be in charge, and he's very considerate and helpful, which was really appreciated. The mother, who seems to still be active, was also very helpful and helped out a lot. It felt like a grandma's stay in the countryside, which was great. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable place with plenty of privacy, I recommend a nearby resort hotel. If you want to enjoy a traditional Showa-era minshuku, this is the place for you. This was our family's first time staying in a proper minshuku, but we were very satisfied and had a nostalgic summer vacation. The kids loved it too. If we come to Wakasa again, we'd definitely like to return."
