Hôtel Normandie Spa

"As other trip advisors have noted, the Hotel Le Normandie's website does NOT accurately reflect the decrepit condition of the hotel. After checking out the "standard" room, which was a hellhole that would not meet anyone's "standards," I paid to upgrade to a "superior" room. Yes it was a large room, but in poor condition (see photos). Broken furniture, stained carpets, and the hot water was almost non-existent when it came to bathing. In addition, the first and last meal I had at the Hotel Le Normandie was certainly the worst meal I had in several weeks of traveling throughout France, and one of the worst I've had in about 10 years of visiting various regions of France. (Monsieur Bibendum, are you listening??) I found the staff to be extremely jaded, offering poor service - except for a kindly young man who was handling the cheese cart duties. What really hurt was the 6 (!) euros I was charged for a cup of coffee (a total breakfast at the hotel ran for 7-9 euros!). I was told the 6 euro charge was because it was a "double," even though I did not ask for a "double." When I brought it up with the manager, I received no recompense or even an apology. I thought, why am I staying here and supporting this place with my patronage?? Thankfully the manager let me leave a day early, but I was still charged a full fee for that night despite getting out of there by 3:00 p.m. It speaks to the magnitude of my unhappiness that I was willing to eat a sizeable night's lodging fee to depart. I would rechristen the place Hotel Le "Abnormandie" -- not up to the Logis standards at all."

"The room was tight with space and the shower room the size of a closet. The wash basin was cracked. Where the manager was very charming and helpful her staff left much to be desired. Their body language left one with the impression that they were tired of tourists invading their space; indifferent and could not look at you in the eye. Table service was very poor showing a lack of training and experience. We were seated at a table but not given any menus. After waiting a quarter of an hour we noticed other couples arriving were seated and given menus immediately. At that point I got up and asked a member of staff for a menu. Having supplied our order we were kept waiting half an hour before the first course arrived while other customers who had arrived after us were served before us. Our dinner took us two and a half hours! On departure, after two nights, we were checked out by one of the assistants who was very curt, could not look at me in the eye and could not bring herself to wish us a pleasant journey! Cannot recommend this hotel"

"We were sitting on the first floor of the ‘head' building and there were 2 separate rooms. Möbel is very old and rooms made a dust and not quite clean impression. 1 of the rooms had no curtain. Beddengoed was old (a little weared lakens) and muffy. The breakfast was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast does not suggest much, (no fresh) bread with only a cup of jam, yoghurt and apple juice. The bags of tea also looked very old. The environment is beautiful, spacious garden and nearby town with a few restaurants."

Great location, superior room well worth the money, good.size with all the amenities, clean with good size tv and good Wfi. and big comfortable bed Although slightly shabby from the outside, once inside very good decor, clean and good layout without being too formal,nice bar area with helpful and attentive staff.Close to railway station with attractive landscape. Only 5 mins walk to centre of town which is pretty with vast array of flower arrangements. Jules was an exceptional host and very attentive to ensuring you enjoyed your stay.Tip, best to rebook Restaurants as they are very busy during the holiday period"

"The hotel is moderns and reasonably priced and well located in a quiet area within the city of Flers. Shower was good. Good safe and dry bike storage in the roomy underground garage. Good variety of restaurants close by. We didn’t bother with breakfast."
