Grids Premium Hotel Otaru ★★★★
"The room was tiny, even though we booked a superior room type. The hotel is new, and the location is absolutely perfect. However, the bed wasn't very comfortable and smelled like stinky feet. Plus, they don't clean the rooms daily; apparently, it's only once every three days. I definitely won't be coming back."
Otaru Kourakuen ★★★★
"An absolutely worthwhile night! The private onsen was high quality and the hotel offered great privacy. Both meals we had were delicious, and the service was excellent. The scenery was breathtaking. It was one of those places you never want to check out of. They even offered complimentary snacks upon departure, and the bar had a wide selection of food in the evening. Strolling in the snow after dinner was also beautiful."
Hotel Torifito Otaru Canal ★★★★
"Not too far from Otaru Station. Staff was helpful and friendly. I like it!"
Hotel Nord Otaru ★★★★
"We had such a great time here even though we only spent one night here. The rooms were clean, and the service was really good. It's a bit of a walk from Otaru Station, but I would still consider the location as convenient because it's just right across Otaru Canal and walkable to many other sights and restaurants. The rooms were quite spacious by Japanese standards. Overall, we had a really great stay in this hotel and would definitely stay here again when we visit Otaru again in the future."
Unwind Hotel & Bar Otaru ★★★★
"Hotel services are good. The room is clean, the environment is calm and romantic. Superb breakfast"
Otaru Furukawa Hotel ★★★
"This is my second visit. I came in winter seven years ago, and this time in summer. The large onsen bath was still fantastic. The location is also unbeatable for sightseeing, right in front of the Otaru Canal. The tatami room with canal views and the breakfast were both very satisfying."
Grand Park Otaru ★★★★
"Connected to the hotel is a big shopping mall, which makes it easy to get food or go for shopping. Hotel is a bit aged, with the late 90’s type of decor. Parking is convenient, so for those who do self driving, this is one of the better locations."
Hotel Sonia Otaru ★★★★
"The hotel was a tad bit older but the room was clean and the arrive was amazing. I liked that it was close by to so many food and a convenience store, and just a 10 minute walk from the train station."
Granbell Hotel Otaru ★★★★
"First, the cons: The room is really small, so much so that two slim people (1.6m tall) would barely fit. Once you open your luggage, there's absolutely no space to stand. Everything else is fine. The location is great, just a 5-minute walk from Otaru Canal. Behind the hotel is a shopping street, and convenience stores are just around the corner, with plenty of food and drink options. I highly recommend the rooftop bath. Don't bother showering in the tiny room; just head straight up there. You can enjoy the sauna, hot springs, and even an open-air bath. Watching the snow fall while you soak is truly beautiful. My child spent a long time happily building a snowman up there."

Hotel Neu Schloss Otaru
"very impressed by their restaurant dinner service. old hotel with old times vibes but that’s the charm and we love it. private onsen was amazing. great hotel all around."
Otaru Asari Classe Hotel
"very big and nice hotel, near the asari ski resort, onsen is good too, there’s also a bar that provides free drinks"
Guesthouse Otaru Wanokaze
"I booked two nights, the price is less than 200 per night, and the Otaru Hotel during the Snow Festival is more than 800+, so I chose a warm youth hostel. The person in charge is an old lady. You will find her humor and enthusiasm when you communicate with her. If there is no one at the front desk, you can ring the bell. You need to leave the key at the front desk when you check out. The second floor can be connected to the bathhouse on the first floor (I didn’t go because it seems to be an independent business bathhouse, and my roommate likes to go there); If you are assigned to a double room as shown in the picture, you are lucky because you will live very comfortably. My roommate is of the same country and the same sex, and we chatted like friends; If you are assigned to a quadruple room, then you will experience a rich youth hostel life. The roommates are men and women from all over the world. It is easy to communicate in a narrow environment. Everyone is very quiet and you don’t have to worry about your sleep problem. But there is indeed a smell that is not like 🦶 air for two days. I can’t tell the difference. There is a burning thing in the room (it seems to be an air purifier) that can solve this smell. The interesting thing about this youth hostel is that it is like a blind box. You don’t know what you will encounter."
Tabist Kaihourou Otaru
"The hotel is beautiful and has complete facilities."
Ginrinsou
"The staff at Ginrinsou were fabulous and we felt so welcomed to the hotel. The history of the building made it an incredible experience."
Asarigawa Onsen Hotel
"The air in the hotel smells bad."
Blue Hotel Nagi-Adult Only
"it was good."
Otaru Geihinkan
"Fantastic! The view from the room was absolutely stunning, perfect for a drive-by trip. It's right by the sea, and the service was excellent, very warm and helpful."
Hokkaido Zhu Jin Villa
"I contacted the store manager Richard by email when I booked the room. We arrived in Otaru after 4:30 pm. With Richard's remote guidance, we adjusted our itinerary, gained time, visited Tengu Mountain efficiently and satisfactorily, and took the last bus to the B&B. At that time, I had already had a good impression of Shukujin Villa before I checked in. After arriving, the room was clean and tidy, the tatami mattress was soft and comfortable, and the living room was bright and spacious, which allowed us to have a comfortable space to chat and drink tea. This made me fully realize how good it is to travel with multiple people and rent a villa! Moreover, each bedroom is equipped with an independent bathroom, which is very rare and an important consideration for me to compare prices when booking a room. It is especially important for our family with children. If I go to Otaru again, this will be the only choice for me and my friends."
Alphabed Inn Otaru Ekimae
"We love the bunk bed and the location"
The Stay Yuki
"The spacious family room was very clean, and I slept soundly until morning. It comfortably fit 6 adults, including junior high school students and older. However, I was told there would be space for 3 cars in the parking lot, but there were already 3 sedans parked there, so it wasn't possible. Even if it were empty, the extremely steep slope and narrow space would require considerable skill to park (TT). We ended up parking in a lot about a 5-6 minute walk away, which cost 600 yen for a maximum of 12 hours. The bathroom is located straight ahead from the entrance, and there's no changing area, so it would have been reassuring to have a partition or space for towels. Also, there are no curtains on the kitchen window immediately above, which required some care."
SANGO
"Pros: Staff were friendly and helpful. Villa was very well kept, with excellent views of the ocean. Pleasantly surprised by complimentary puddings and drinks. Manual grinder and coffee beans were a nice touch. Cons: Unable to drive directly to the villa due to safety policy. This made loading/unloading luggage very inconvenient. The walk to the carpark required negotiating a slippery gravel slope, which was even more dangerous in low-light conditions. Recommend to improve this with proper stairs or paved pathway."
Otaru Asarigawa Onsen Hotel Musashitei
"A traditional Japanese hot spring hotel, although the facilities are relatively old, the sanitary conditions are very good. The breakfast is a traditional Japanese breakfast, with a lot of cold things, which may not be suitable for the elderly."
Pension Shadow Classe
"only smoking rooms, old furniture, no lift, only twin beds, lots of insects, good value for budget travellers, spacious, easy to access ski resorts"
Otaru Retreat Kuramure by Onko Chishin
"A very good hotel, high-end, first-class service. The only drawback is that the temperature of the outdoor hot spring is a little low, it would be better if it is higher."
Winkel Village
"I stayed at a condominium with an open-air bath for two nights. The facilities in the room, the hot spring, the fireplace, etc. were very good and comfortable. It was a 30-minute train ride from Sapporo and about 2,000 yen by taxi from Otaru Chikko, so the accommodation fee was reasonable and you could enjoy the beautiful scenery and natural hot springs very easily. However, perhaps because most guests came by car, or perhaps because they were not used to guests without cars, the walk from the reception desk to the condominium was a long way uphill, and I had to walk my large and heavy suitcase along the icy road, which was very difficult. (It even felt dangerous.) I bought some extra-large firewood (very heavy), but they told me to bring it myself, and although I asked them to bring it, I would say it would be five stars if they were a little more considerate to guests without cars. It's also typical of Hokkaido that the condominium does not have the minimum condiments or plastic wraps (charges apply). Also, I had to smile bitterly at the fact that there were many signs saying XX was prohibited, probably because some guests had bad manners, and I thought it was a bit of a waste considering the woody and nice atmosphere of the rooms."
