"As the final stop on our two-week vacation tour in Sumatra, we decided to end our trip in Padang and book Air Manis Hill Resident as the luxurious, relaxing part of the journey. We needed three rooms and were offered a price of IDR 6.5 million (USD 402) per night for all three rooms, including breakfast. We arrived late in the evening and were welcomed by a lady who is responsible for the property. The owner does not live in Indonesia. There was not much introduction to the place, and after a short while the lady went home. We were then completely alone in the house — with no security at all. When we woke up the next morning, we saw a beautiful, well-maintained garden, a swimming pool, and a stunning view of the ocean. Unfortunately, we also noticed how dirty the place was: old, worn-out towels; dirty bed linen; a filthy bath mat; grime in all corners; dirty power outlets, lamps, shelves — dirt everywhere. There was no hot water in the taps. We complained directly to the owner, who apologized. Nothing much happened on the first day, but on the second day a bit of cleaning was done. The bed linen and towels were changed, and the areas we had pointed out in photos were dusted. However, all other corners were still very dirty, and there was still no hot water. We complained again, and a technician was finally brought in to repair the system, so after our third night we were able to take a hot shower. We ended up getting a discount of about 25%, which we still felt was expensive considering what we got for the money. The owner excused it with the weather and one staff member being ill. The weather was indeed very bad, but this has nothing to do with how clean the house, towels, and bedsheets are. And without us complaining, we would still have paid full price. It is a house without security, and the staff (with very limited english) went home at 5 p.m. So when the power went out early one morning, we had to wait for it to be restored until the staff arrived around 8 a.m. The description and photos shown on the website are certainly not up to date — I guess this is how the property looked 10 or more years ago. Still, the best we can say is this: for the price of a 5-star hotel, you only get a stunning view, a beautiful garden, and a nice pool - which you can only enjoy when it is not raining."

"I am Dai from China. I was very satisfied with my stay for 3 days. Especially the two brothers showed their care and help to me. I was very touched and left their contact information. I will definitely stay here next time. The environment is very good. Well, the most important thing is that it’s cheap, a bed for 45-50 yuan. This brother took me to play on a motorcycle. I gave him gas money, and then I went to eat Padang rice. He recommended two hotels and I said yes. It’s better if it’s cheaper and not so expensive. He was happy to go with me. This brother is really nice and kind. I’m leaving here today and he even took me to the train station on his motorcycle. I was really touched. I hope he is a good man and has a safe life. The boss is his brother. He gave me a charger and helped me plug in the socket. I have stayed in many hotels and this is the first time I have given a good review. It comes from the bottom of my heart. After drinking two bottles of beer, it was okay. After bargaining, the boss charged me 90,000 Indonesian rupiah less. I was deeply touched, especially in a foreign country. This warmth is really heart-warming. I will definitely stay here again next time I come, at least for half a month, this time. Because I have traveled abroad to visit several countries and it’s time to go home, I sincerely give it a 5-star review. 👍"

"Everything was nice! The hotel is beautiful and gives off Bali vibes. Breakfast was decent too. I arrived 2 hours early due to heavy rain and hoped to check in early to change my wet clothes. Although no room was ready, the staff kindly let me store my bag and use the public toilet to change. However, when I returned at 2pm (the official check-in time), the room was still not ready and I only got in at 2:30pm. Still, I appreciate their helpfulness and tolerance—just a bit more punctuality would make the experience even better."
