The Lamb and Flag Inn
"I stayed at The Lamb & Flag for two nights with my daughter. I booked via their website. Our room looked nothing like the rooms I saw on the website. We arrived to find our bags had been left in the middle of the floor in a room which appeared to have been furnished from the local secondhand store. The mugs which were left out for us to make drinks had marks in the bottom where people had left dirty spoons, which had been removed without the mugs being cleaned. Someone had spilt something down the front of the unit which the mugs were on and the drip mark was still there along with a hand print on the wardrobe next to it. The cushions on the beds were stained, the windows were dirty and the venetian blinds were thick with dust. The bathroom was filthy. The cleaning was so poor it was almost funny. The floor was grimy and behind the loo there was dust, cobwebs and bits of loo paper. You could see in the shower where the tray had been wiped out in a circle leaving the corners covered in dirt. The cleaners obviously didn't get in the shower to clean it. The barman I spoke to downstairs that evening made it clear he could not have cared less. A very nice lady (Christine?) offered to clean the room that evening, but I said please just get it cleaned for us tomorrow as we had walked 13 miles that day and just wanted an early night. In the morning we had breakfast at Ty Morgans where we met a lady who said she was the boss. We spoke to her about the state of the bathroom and showed her some photos. She promised she would sort it out for us. She obviously didn't check the cleaning that was carried out. The photos below are AFTER the bathroom had been cleaned. You can clearly see on one of them where I have cleaned half of the shower fixture with kitchen towel and water. There was a strong smell of bleach, but there were still cobwebs, the extractor fan was thick with dust, the shower was still really dirty, there were grubby fingermarks on the bathroom door etc etc. If you think I sound like a clean freak I can assure you I'm not, but this was just not acceptable. All I expect is a basic level of cleanliness and attention to detail like you would get in a Travelodge or Premier Inn. The young ladies who appeared to be the housekeepers were very pleasant, but obviously don't know what is acceptable and didn't have anyone checking their work. We were given two free drinks as an apology. I have given the Lamb & Flag two stars because I am trying to be fair. The location is great, right in the middle of town. The food was decent pub grub and the portions were large. The bar was pleasant with two large TVs showing sport. There was plenty of hot water. Our room was at the back so the noise from the bar was OK, but our windows looked out on to the roof of the kitchen and a wall. Most of the staff were friendly and I'm sure the housekeepers were doing their best. They just need someone to show them what's acceptable."
The Horseshoe Guesthouse
"Stayed for the third year running at Royal Welsh show week. The accommodation is first class in a lovely old style building. Good parking facilitate at the front. Breakfasts are good and Paul is a friendly helpful host. An excellent stop off place when in the area. Have booked to return for a fourth year."
Penralley House B&B
Crown Inn
"We had a booking for 5:00pm and were told that the table would need to be returned by 6:30pm.Which was absolutely fine with us. However, from the moment we arrived, it was clear we were not welcome. We arrived slightly early at 4:57pm, and some of our group were immediately questioned about where the others were. When the rest of our party arrived just a few minutes later at 5:02pm, we were abruptly informed that we wouldn’t be served at all. No explanation, just a blunt refusal. What made it worse was the attitude. The staff, particularly the women working there, were incredibly rude and came across as aggressive. We felt spoken down to, dismissed and, quite frankly, ostracised. It felt as though simply not being locals meant we weren’t worthy of being treated with basic courtesy. We had travelled all the way from Manchester to Wales and had nowhere else to go. Instead of hospitality, we were met with hostility. The whole experience left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable and treated unfairly. A pub should feel warm and inviting this one made us feel the complete opposite."

"Nice and convenient to the local town. Last minute booking for us. Done the job we needed it to and good price. Clean and tidy room. Liked that we had a key to let ourselves in and out when we needed to. Would come back and stay again. Thank you 😊😊"
