"Would have given 5* but on arrival we discovered that the aircon was faulty and it was 33°C+. After a long drive through Brittany and the Loire Valley, we were hot and exhausted and very unamused to be told of the issue. The reception could have displayed more sympathy, and offering to move us to a budget hotel in their chain around the corner was not really a sensible option for a long stay customer. This was not just an overnight stop and I had booked a 4*! In the end, however, it transpired that the aircon in our room came on in the evening and we were able to sleep very well. For the following days, it was switched off during the day whilst the engineers worked on the system but back on late afternoon which was absolutely fine. The reception needed better information about which rooms were affected by the serious system fault and which weren’t! The staff are all very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant menu is limited, presumably they don’t expect longer stay customers (we are staying 6 nights) but well prepared and tasty. The wine menu is reasonably priced per bottle. The room is comfortable but has a slightly freaky large portrait of a famous admiral overlooking the bed and what appears to be a colonial era plantation view behind the bed (inappropriate now??). The lighting in the room needs to be brighter as we can hardly see in the wardrobe area. The only real criticism is that the toilet is separate from the bathroom in a tiny space akin to a public toilet. There’s little room to get in and close the door behind you (ours doesn’t actually lock but not a major issue). Overall, we would thoroughly recommend - the ambience is restful and classy. The breakfast choice is amazing with lovely staff. The town is pretty with lots of history. Worth a visit."

ibis budget Rochefort ★★

"We've stayed in IBIS hotels many times, and have usually been impressed by their high standards. Unfortunately this one fell far short. The hotel itself is difficult to find, due to lack of signage on the nearby roads. When we first arrived at the hotel, the receptionist could not find our booking. Whilst she was searching for it, another guest pushed past us to the desk and asked her a question. She then ignored us whilst she answered it, and did not apologise to us for the interruption. This behaviour is totally unacceptable, and is definitely not the way to treat your customers. During the whole of our stay we could not use the hotel WiFi on any of our devices. On two separate occasions we asked the staff at Reception for help, but they were unable to solve the problem and even implied that it was our own fault! One of them even asked "Why do you not just use your 4G signal?" We eventually realised that the the problem was caused by the network not directing us to a Login Page after we first connected. These incidents fall far short of the high standard we have come to expect from Ibis Hotels, and we do not feel that we received good value for money on this occasion. "

"Not much of an experience as being quicked out before check in by a very unpleasant owner as I was indicating that I may shorten a bit my stay, booked one hour before. Picking up calls in the meanwhile, rude and unhelpful. May I suggest you avoid this hotel?"

"The hotel is very comfortable and the rooms are small and we are used to get down to Ibis hotels but the rooms are not even at the Ibis budget level . When you enter the room with our baggage, you can't open the door in the large because it touches the bed."

"We stayed in teh hotel for two nights finding it very well located (200 m from the central square of Rochefort and from the harbour) and easy to find a parking. The room was good, wide enough and well serviced with a spacious bathroom with shower. Excellent the breakfast in the morning. Super warm and helpful the couple managing the hotel: they provided a lot of suggestions, gave us indications on visits and restaurants."

"What a fabulous place to stay. The proprietor’s, Pascal and Sandrine are most welcoming, warm, and generous hosts. Their home has quite a history yet is furnished in a contemporary design led manner, it’s wonderful and even has a swimming pool in the garden which guests can use, along with private parking to give added value as street parking is chargeable. Le petit-dejeuner (breakfasts) are quite the treat, and in addition to the apple juice, fresh fruit/bread/croissants/yogurt/ham and cheeses, etc. Sandrine freshly cooks something different each morning; french toast, waffles, etc. all with copious amounts of coffee /tea. Rochefort is lovely with a naval background and has some fantastic restaurants which Pascal and Sandrine can advise upon, all just a short walk away from Espirit du 8 which is ideally situated just off the historic city centre. Saturday sees a very busy market in the historic city centre. We loved all of it."
