"Our bedroom was lovely with beautiful shower, bed and furnishings. Delightful food and wine. Waking up to breakfast in the serene dining room and attentive service, comfortable seating--no need to go anywhere else--this is the place to bring good books and to be. Enjoyed meandering towards the lake on friendly pathways where the light and view changed constantly. Wine tour was fun & impressive. I must go back to try the very inviting swimming pool. Thank you!"

MORGADIO DA CALÇADA ★★★★

📍 R. Cabo de Vila Nº 18, Provesende

"This is a working vineyard, accommodation and dining room which all need care, but there doesn't seem to be enough staff to properly oversee all. We were "welcomed" by the young son who seems to have an arrogant attitude. He really didn't care for guests. We are a couple over 75 years old had to pull our cases through a length of gravel. The son didn't feel able to help my wife with her luggage and his instructions were very curt. The father, who we met later, was charming, helpful and courteous. The cook and wait staff were good. The food for dinner and breakfast was very good, but not lavish. Our room was very small and dark."

Quinta da Veiga

Quinta da Veiga ★★★

📍 CM1268, Covas do Douro

"We stayed two nights and the facilities were nice, clean and decent value for money. The dinner, at 35€, which the estate offers was absolutely horrendous though. Overcooked steak, the wines were nothing else than low-quality and served at totally wrong temperatures, which an estate in the middle of Portugals wine region could definitely improve upon. Breakfast was ok-ish, but very basic. The location is sub-par, as it‘s close to a 30 minute drive from Pinhão were all the major restaurants are, which makes it hard to not choose dinner at the estate."

The Manor House Celeirós ★★★
"Perfection from start to finish! Tranquil and scenic environment, great for a retreat. The vineyards and the cellars are a must visit. The hospitality and the restaurant service was spot on. Great food and wine pairing menus with detailed descriptions of the wines and dishes served. Amazing views of Pinhao wine region on the way to the vineyard. Will definitely return. "

Quinta Nova Winery House - Relais & Châteaux ★★★★★
"An excellent experience. My family and I began with a tour of the Quinta Nova museum and winery, through which we were guided by our friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable tour guide. It was very interesting to learn about their production process as well as the history behind both Quinta Nova and the Douro Valley itself. We then proceeded to the wine tasting, and, as to be expected, all the wines were delicious. We particularly enjoyed their Port, which originated in the Douro Valley vineyards. Our lunch at Restaurante Terraçu's was fabulous and undoubtedly my favorite part. The food was Michelin-quality, and all servers and other staff, from young to old, were kind and accommodating. We had the opportunity to experience many more of Quinta Nova’s exquisite wines during this time as well. We ended our day with a lovely boat tour. The tour company associated with Quinta Nova was excellent. My family and I were fortunate in that we had a large, shaded motorboat to ourselves, with our own personal guide named Telmo. Telmo was filled with interesting information and insights regarding the Douro Valley, educating us about crop cultivation and management methods in the area, and delving into the economic and political landscape of the valley and its farms/vineyards as well. Our overall experience was enhanced by the beautiful architecture of the Quinta Nova facilities. The exteriors of all the buildings are preserved from the 18th century with contemporary, tasteful, and climate-controlled interiors. There was a small chapel that was preserved where people could go for prayer, which we loved. Of course, the scenery and geography of the Douro Valley is breathtaking, and Quinta Nova is well situated to fully capture this beauty, particularly due to its height on the mountains, excellent view of the river, and beautifully cultivated, surrounding vineyards under its care. I highly recommend Quinta Nova and the magnificent experience that they provide."

Quinta Manhas Douro ★★★★
"Stayed here on recommendation of a friend. This is a real hidden gem, it’s so peaceful and quiet. We stayed in the deluxe rooms which are bungalows, they are right next to pool and up some steps to breakfast and dinner. You should try to eat one night at the Quinta the food is excellent. The rooms are spacious and airy with great views my Only comment would be small bits of damage are showing like the floor in our bathroom coming up. But honestly do not let that put you off it’s such a wonderful place to stay."

Quinta de la Rosa ★★★★
"Beautiful location. If you stay there is a complimentary tour of the wine making facilities. We had dinner at the restaurant which was packed... Food was above average but our medium t-bone was more of a medium well done. Swimming pool was cool and relaxing as it over looked the river. Suggest a minimum stay of 2 nights so that you can explore the town, river walk and vineyard walk."

MORGADIO DA CALÇADA ★★★★
"Provesende is an interesting village in the hills above Pinhau. It used to be the haunt of the rich and nobility with many fine houses but now most are deserted. Morgadio da Calcada has been in the same family for centuries and quite recently decided to expand from just wine into the tourist business by converting a couple of outbuildings into eight hotel rooms. This has been interestingly done but with some problems: The bedrooms are small and with no desk or shelving so nowhere to put books or papers, the water took four minutes to run hot, we could not operate the television, although later told that we should have used two controllers! There is a communal sitting and dining room in the old house, attractive and with a log fire. Breakfast was excellent with fresh scrambled eggs and a decent choice considering that we were the only two guests. However at €121 for b&b we felt this was a bit expensive for the standard of bedroom."

Quinta da Veiga ★★★
"The room was pretty. Bed was hard. Not enough toilet paper. No hair dryer. Pool was filled with algae and not swimmable. Dinner was terrible. Dry steak, oily potatoes and tasteless spinach. Wine made from their vinyard sounds lovely, but seeing it’s coming straight from the Douro wine country- we expected better wine. Starter, dinner and dessert, including white wine, red wine and port was all served within 30 minutes (all served with the wrong temperatures, for us wine lovers). The wine was also filled up way too much in the glass, but most would see that as a good thing! Breakfast wasn’t very tempting as meat and cheese was standing out without any coverage for 3+ hours. Lovely view though!"
