"We stayed one night on the second day of the ***** New Year in February 2026, and checked out on the first day of Ramadan, making for a perfectly connected itinerary. The hotel service was excellent, the food was of extremely high quality, and the magnificent scenery of the Grand Canyon was breathtaking. 【Driving Advice】 From Bidiyah, a town on the edge of the Wasiba Desert, the drive takes about 4 hours, stopping at a gas station and the Bait Al Sabah ruins. There are police checks for 4WD vehicles at the entrance to the mountains. Don't be nervous going uphill, but when encountering steep downhill sections, be sure to activate the hill descent control and use a low gear (engine braking) for safety. There are temporary parking spots along the mountain roads at intervals where you can stop and rest to prevent your brakes from overheating. 【Rooms and Services】 Salma, a Moroccan lady at the front desk, was very welcoming and upgraded our booked Canyon View Single Sofa Bed (1 King Standard Canyon View) to Jabal Akhdar Balcony Chalets (suite number 103). The room faces south, with floor-to-ceiling windows spanning ten meters in width between the living room and bedroom. The connecting balcony overlooks the canyon, perched atop a cliff, offering even better views than the pool. You can watch both sunrise and sunset simultaneously. The hotel thoughtfully decorated our room with swan-patterned towels and balloons to celebrate their anniversary. The 116-square-meter suite is well-laid out, with sofas in the living room and bedroom, and an outdoor bed and beanbag chairs on the balcony – all very comfortable. At an altitude of 2,000 meters on a green mountain, the bathtub had ample water and a constant temperature, making for a wonderful bathing experience. [Dining Experience] Because the environment was so comfortable, we didn't want to leave after checking in. After watching the sunset over the canyon from our room, we ordered food from the rooftop Vue restaurant and had it delivered to our room. The aroma was irresistible! We ordered their signature Persian grilled chicken skewers, vegetable skewers, and 30-year-old sourdough flatbread (Margherita pizza), all of which were delicious, and the two of us were very satisfied. The room provides sealed glass bottles of drinking water, which is reassuring, and refills are extremely fast. 【Climate and Environment】 Green Mountain is about 2000 meters higher than the foothills, and the temperature is 10 degrees Celsius lower (approximately 8-18°C on the day of arrival). The indoor air conditioning was very effective at heating, maintaining a comfortable 26°C. The night sky was dazzling, the rooms were excellently soundproofed, and the environment was quiet; at midnight, only the faint sound of distant car engines coming down the mountain could be heard, which did not disturb sleep at all. 【Public Facilities】 The gym facilities were well-maintained. The spa has a women-only indoor heated pool. The outdoor pool is located outside the Za’atar restaurant in the lobby, offering excellent views; other guests who weren't afraid of the cold were enjoying it on the afternoon of my arrival. The gift shop is located next to the spa, selling local jewelry and perfumes. 【Ramadan Breakfast】 Although it was the first day of Ramadan, the Za’atar breakfast buffet was still served. The selection included Middle Eastern, Indian, and Western dishes, various pastries, cheeses, and a variety of dried fruits, vegetables, and fresh juices—a rich and delicious selection. Eggs and coffee could be ordered separately after being seated. They had Chinese-style congee and side dishes, but I didn't try them. Overall, the experience was excellent and I would recommend it. We stayed for a night at Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort in February 2026, checking out on the first day of Ramadan. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the Grand Canyon views were breathtaking. Driving Tips The drive from Bidiyah took about four hours, including a fuel stop and a brief visit to the Bait Al Sabah ruins. There is a police checkpoint at the mountain base verifying 4WD status. While the climb is easy, the descent is steep. Use Hill Descent Control and low gears for engine braking; if your brakes overheat, use the emergency parking bays. Room & Service We were warmly welcomed by Salma, a lovely Moroccan receptionist, who upgraded our "1 King Standard Canyon View" to a Jabal Akhdar Balcony Chalet (Suite 103). It is south facing and features a 10-meter-wide floor-to-ceiling window spanning the living room and bedroom. The balcony sits on the edge of the cliff, offering a view that surpasses the main pool area. We watched both sunrise and sunset from the balcony. At 2,000 meters above sea level, soaking in the bathtub is a perfect way to relax after a day of driving. Dining Experience The room was so comfortable that we chose to stay in for the evening. We ordered room service from the rooftop restaurant, Vue. The aroma was incredible the moment food arrived. We ordered the signature Persian Joojeh Kabob, vegetable skewers, and a 30-year sourdough Flatbread (a Margherita pizza). Everything was delicious and was enough for two of us. Drinking water is provided in sealed glass bottles in the room and additional bottles were delivered quickly upon request. Climate & Environment Jabal Akhdar is about 2,000 meters higher than the lowlands, with a temperature difference of roughly 10°C (it was 8-18°C during our stay). The AC heating was excellent, keeping the room a cozy 26°C. The starry night was brilliant. The soundproofing was so good that the only sound was the occasional faint hum of distant engines descending the mountain, very peaceful for sleep. Facilities The outdoor pool is located outside the Za’atar restaurant, offers a great view of the canyon. The gym is well maintained. The Spa features a dedicated indoor heated pool for ladies. The gift shop is located next to the Spa and features local jewelry and perfumes. Ramadan Breakfast While it's the first day of Ramadan, the breakfast buffet at Za’atar was served as usual. The selection was vast, covering Middle Eastern, Chinese, Indian, and Western cuisines, along with cheeses, fresh fruits, dried fruits and nuts, salads and fresh juices. Delicious. Eggs and coffee/tea are made-to-order. Overall, this was an incredible experience and is highly recommended."

As the hotel is situated more than 2000 meters above sea level, it is a perfect getaways from souring heat during summer. "The building, with its two distinctive domes, appears isolated at a bend in the winding but well-paved road leading to Jabal. Few tourists seem to stop there, except for a few groups attracted by the low prices. The single-story building is well-maintained, with marble floors and wide corridors. The rooms all face south towards the vast plateau on the opposite side from the entrance. They offer basic comfort with rather dated furnishings. The major problem, which becomes apparent in the late winter afternoon, is the bitter cold that reigns on this side of the plateau and the hotel's poor thermal (and sound) insulation, where the reversible air conditioners run at full blast, making an incessant noise all night. The meals served in the adjoining restaurant are quite good, with the obligatory buffets, but guests in fleece or down jackets don't linger too long. It's worth noting that the establishment serves wine and beer, and the price of the buffet (3.5 OMR) is very reasonable. It has to be said that the clientele is practically captive, as no one really wants to take their 4x4 in the middle of the night to end up in another hotel's restaurant, given the limited dining options at this mountain resort. In short, it's all just average."
