Pfa Hotel la Darsena - Follonica
"Let me start by saying: I had booked another hotel, but I followed an acquaintance who was staying here at the same time, so our daughters could stay together. A huge mistake, the kind that makes you regret every single euro spent. The building is simply depressing: a huge block of gray concrete, old, neglected, and almost dilapidated. More than a hotel, it feels like a half-finished building that's been there since the 1980s. The atmosphere is squalid and decaying as soon as you arrive. The surreal thing? Four floors WITHOUT AN ELEVATOR. I had to drag suitcases, bags, a cooler, and everything else my daughter needed up three floors by myself, in the heat, without a single member of staff deigning to offer help. They passed me by like disoriented zombies. The room was huge but completely meaningless: empty, cold, decorated in a dull, dreary way. The bathroom was tiny and poorly designed: the door banged on the bidet and opened halfway. The third bed was tucked into some kind of creepy hole under the stairs. It seemed like a last-minute makeshift arrangement. The supposed "sea and pool view"? Ridiculous. As soon as you stepped out onto the terrace, you were faced with the concrete roof of the floor below, which practically obscured the entire view of the pool. Not a view at all. The night was a nightmare. There's obviously a nightclub attached to the hotel, because from 11 PM onward, deafening music started blasting with bass so loud it felt like a jackhammer was hammering into your brain. I kept waking up. Sleep was impossible, especially thanks to the tombstone-hard mattress. The minibar? Only there for show: turned off and completely empty. At least the room was clean, the only real positive note. The "international breakfast" is perfectly in keeping with the rest of the property: very sad. Self-service like a cafeteria, coffee and cappuccino from vending machines, industrially packaged desserts, and a depressing atmosphere. The only positive thing is the ample parking. End of list. And to top it all, the hotel isn't even centrally located: it's about 5 km from Follonica, so you're forced to always take the car. The staff is practically invisible: they wander the corridors without ever understanding what's going on around them or if a guest needs anything. A total lack of attention and professionalism. A terrible experience in every way. And the most absurd thing? It wasn't even cheap. FAILED without appeal."
Marina di Scarlino Resort
"Our 3rd visit to the Marina. We stayed for a week in a duplex overlooking the sea. The apartments are beautifully appointed, modern and fresh, as you’d expect from its connection to the Ferragamo family. Two bathrooms and bedrooms with daily housekeeping service. Excellent air con, kitchen area and most of all the balconies/terraces. Three in total. The one at the side of the apartment was large, private, with dining area, and sun beds, again looking over the Marina. The reception team are friendly and welcoming. The pool/s are great for relaxing with option to reserve your sun beds or cabana area the night before. The beach is only a 5 minute walk although you need to pay for a sun bed, but there is a small free public area. The sea is great for snorkelling although recommend something for your feet as quite a few sea urchins. The Marina has various restaurants on site as well as a small supermarket and shops. It’s an excellent place to visit and stay as a family. It’s very popular with Italians and the restaurants are busy at the weekends but easy to book a table. Zero Distanze does takeaways (eg pizza) and the food at Doga is also excellent. Prices are also reasonable. Follonica is only 5-10 drive away with an excellent Coop Supermarket and restaurants. The resort has a lovely relaxed feel, and we would happily return again and again"

Borgo Etrusco
"We just returned from a week at the Etruscan village... I already miss it 😭..... we had a great time! The apartment was fabulous, very clean and with everything available, the staff is really kind and really available for everything, the gardens, the swimming pool and all the houses are well looked after. I recommend it especially to those who, like us, have dogs in tow. WELL DONE, CONGRATULATIONS 👏💯👏❤️"
Botrona B&B
"Beautiful property surrounded by greenery. Convenient parking, spacious room, excellent bathroom. The jacuzzi (tried) and sauna (not tried) were good. So, plenty of amenities for a 5. The only downside... the bed. Unfortunately, by my standards, it was a bit uncomfortable, but by no means terrible, let's be clear. We'll definitely return."
Casa in Maremma Tuscany Village
"If you enjoy spending your family holidays in a setting stricter than your everyday life, this is the place for you! Here, rules come before anything else. From the moment we arrived, we realised that many of the activities advertised when booking were nowhere to be found on-site. Also, if you don’t speak Italian, expect communication challenges: very few staff speak English, and all activities are conducted exclusively in Italian. As for the pool, swim caps are mandatory for everyone — adults and children alike — even if you just want to dip a toe in the water. And don’t rely on the pool shop: they don’t always sell caps… when it’s even open. The only evening when the pool stays open after 8 p.m., even if your child is a strong swimmer and you are in the water with them, they will still be required to wear armbands. The children’s water play area is not turned on all day, which makes it even less appealing. The so-called water park with a slide? An illusion: it’s not a real pool, just a small basin painted blue. The site is right next to a motorway — convenient for access, but noisy enough to remind you of the city you probably came to escape. Dining experience: • Breakfast: you’d better be an early riser, otherwise the buffet will be almost empty and barely replenished. • Dinner buffet: apart from the pasta — thankfully well cooked — the rest is very disappointing and far from the promise of the promotional videos. • Special dinner events: during a paella night, we had prepaid and ordered our dish in advance, only to be told at 7:30 p.m. that they couldn’t serve us due to insufficient portions — they had simply sold more tickets than meals available. rule: when you arrive, you are assigned a table in the restaurant (inside or outside), and you must eat there for your entire stay with no option to change. We had the misfortune of being placed against a large glass window in direct sunlight, making some meals almost unbearable due to the heat. As for entertainment, it’s limited and far from engaging, at least from what we’ve seen so far, this will certainly be our first and last visit here."
