"If you are a japanophile, longing for the by gone days before Japan was hit with over tourism ,when service was sincere and warm , and when the atmosphere in the ryokans was dignified and civilized, then Tachibana Tei Ohana is a must stay for you. The service in this hotel was top notch warm and genteel. The staff bows deeply to you whenever they meet you. The hotel patrons respect the cultured atmosphere and during mealtimes people speak in hushed quiet respectful tones so as not to disturb others. Breakfast and Kaiseki dinner were excellent and in just the correct portions so you do not feel pressured to finish all the food on your plate.The rooms were clean and all amenities are available. There are free drinks in the reading lounge in the evenings which is a nice place to unwind after a day of activities. Unfortunately when we were there, the canals in Yanagawa were drained to facilitate repair works so the quaint canal atmosphere Yanagawa is famous for was absent. All in all an excellent hotel worthy of its long history . Highly recommended."

"This was my second stay at Shirayanagi Ryokan while on a business trip in Yanagawa. The cleanliness and service are excellent. For a small town like Yanagawa, it's a really great choice. I had both breakfast and dinner at Shirayanagi, which were Japanese set meals. It's a shame there was no milk for breakfast, but otherwise, everything was good. The service is great and very polite."

"There is nothing much to do here except for the yanagawa river boat ride where some young boatman will jump up the low lying bridge as the boat passes under the bridge. The good part is during good weather the river behind this hotel during late evening 7pm is beautiful and calm. Parking is free and just in front of the hotel. Mind that this hotel seems quite old but amenities are well maintained."

"I stayed here while sightseeing in Yanagawa. It's conveniently located near the station. There are no convenience stores nearby so I bought water from a vending machine. The building is old, but it felt like I was visiting my grandmother's house. There was a bath area so I could take a long soak in the tub and it was nice that there were also two shower booths. The toilets and washrooms were clean. However, I couldn't find a hairdryer (maybe you can borrow one from the front desk?), so I let my hair dry naturally. There was nothing good or bad around the area, and the stars were beautiful at night, which was nice."
