"The environment is quiet, and although the hotel is a bit old, the facilities are well-preserved. The large public bath is great for soaking in, perfect for relaxing after sightseeing. The location is in the city center, a bit far from the JR station, but there are city buses. If you take a taxi to Shin-Yatsushiro Station to transfer to the Shinkansen to Kumamoto, the taxi ride takes about 15 minutes. The hotel reception can help you book a taxi or arrange a taxi by phone. There is also an airport bus stop at the hotel for Kumamoto-Aso (my original plan). There are restaurants nearby, but I didn't eat there, so I can't comment on them. However, the city's morning hours are very early; around 9 pm, the streets are quite quiet. The streetlights are spaced a bit far apart, so be careful with your phone battery. Breakfast is included, with both Japanese and Western options. The yam tsuna and fried fish nuggets were delicious. The front desk service was excellent! Very friendly! They were very helpful in resolving issues! Ms. Shimada at the front desk speaks excellent and fluent English, which greatly simplifies the process of resolving my problems. Due to weather conditions, I was notified at 10 PM that my flight the following day was canceled. After a friend helped me arrange a rebooking to Fukuoka, I needed to immediately confirm my transportation route for the next day. Therefore, I went to the front desk to inquire. Ms. Shimada, fluent in English, quickly understood my question and needs, provided a JR timetable, checked the required fees, helped me book a taxi for the next day, and ensured a smooth handover to the next available taxi. I am also very grateful to the front desk staff the following day (a gentleman) for helping to contact the taxi in advance and communicating with the driver about the destination and the need for a receipt."

"My brother and me had a terrific stay in the beautiful setting. The drive up the mountain on a tiny road is well worth it. The hostess is so friendly and wonderful, and was so hospitable.  She explained the food dishes that were served using Google translate. The food was amazing, so varied and included local specialties: Trout, fried moth larvae, black moss that grows on rocks ( local delicatessen), wild hog soup, deer sashimi, etc. We experienced the finest Japanese food and hospitality. Traditional bedroom with tatami mats and access to the unsen were added amenities. Thank you for the memorable experience! Laurent"

"I made a reservation because the reviews were good. Since we were traveling with an infant, they provided a baby bed, so it was a four-generation trip. My mother has bad legs, so I brought a pushchair, but there was no handrail in the hotel elevator, so I'm glad I brought it. The building seems to be quite old, and when I flushed the toilet, it made a loud noise, waking up my sleeping infant. There were no outlets in the bathroom. The beds were on the soft side, so it was a minus point for me, who likes hard beds. The breakfast was Japanese and Western, and there were a few dishes, but the seasoning was a little strong, or rather, a little salty... Also, when I parked in the driveway, dropped off my luggage and family, parked in the parking lot, and returned, they were still outside. It was a shame that the staff did not come to pick up our luggage or to guide us. What was interesting was that we could choose the shampoo and hair dryer. My daughter likes to try various things, so we were able to use the shampoo, hair dryer, and body soap that she wanted to try. There was also a library in the hotel, and although we did not use it because she was an infant, I thought it was a good service. I think Rich is a good hotel. This hotel is convenient for those traveling by car, as it is close to restaurants, massage parlors, convenience stores, gas stations, shopping malls, etc. Finally, Wi-Fi is free, but the signal did not reach the room on the 7th floor where we parked."
