Gardens House, Airport Juan Santamaría, Alajuela, San José

📍 Casa 5E, C. La Haya, Llanos del Molino, Alajuela
★★ 9.2 (113 reviews)

"Since this hotel was near from Juan Santamaría International Airport, location was very good! This hotel provides shuttle services and this is available even in the early morning. Room was good but there is no drier."

Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela

Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela

📍 Radial Francisco J. Orlich Plaza Los Mangos, Alajuela
★★★★ 9.0 (56 reviews)

"This hotel has a free shuttle. Ask at Information at the airport and they will show you where to find it. It's easy. From friendly reception to good breakfast to arrangement of quick tour, I enjoyed my stay here. Comfy pillows and bed. Everything here was to my satisfaction, including a nice, hot shower and late checkout. I recommend this hotel."

Hampton by Hilton San Jose Airport

Hampton by Hilton San Jose Airport

📍 Airport Blvd, 1, Alajuela
★★★★ 9.0 (52 reviews)

"The location is excellent for those travelling from the airport in San Jose. The service of the shuttle is almost continuous, and the driver is helpful and courteous. They have laundry facilities available which is a big plus for those with further travel plans. It is not the cheapest option close to the airport, but the rooms are very nice. We did not get to enjoy the breakfast, but for lunch and dinner, there is a Denny's just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. Would definitely use again and recommend."

"My experience did not quite match the enthusiastic reviews left earlier here. I think it's fine as a cheap airport stopover place, with a few caveats. The main one: be sure you get the right room! I was given a room two doors down from the office and the entrance to the hotel and it was very noisy, especially as the walls are paper thin and there are large windows between rooms that have been covered with dark film for privacy but of course let a lot of sound through. Oh right: it was kinda warm also and only had a small fan to blow air in from the hallway for ventilation. When I asked to change rooms I was told the only other option was a bunk room. Having already paid (big mistake!) I thought I'd give it a go. After a while I realized there was no way I'd be able to sleep with the noise so I asked to cancel and for a refund. They said that was not possible and then finally said there was another open room upstairs so I moved to there. It was much better and had a quiet air conditioner, so things worked out. But it's worth noting that even upstairs in the better rooms you hear everything in the hallway so are likely to be woken up at times unless you sleep very soundly. Personally, I'd go for one of the similarly priced Airbnbs in Alueta next time, even as the Toucan is not unreasonable for what it is. Oh right: it is true that it's very clean, as others have said, so that's good!"

Hilton Garden Inn San Jose Airport City Mall

Hilton Garden Inn San Jose Airport City Mall

📍 Francisco J. Orlich Road, Alajuela
★★★ 8.9 (127 reviews)

"The pool was situated on 4th floor and was freezing cold very windy weather and no sun in the afternoon. The sun loungers were very flimsy in the wind and I trapped my finger in a lounger. Very painful. The receptionist was not very friendly but the shuttle driver was lovely"

Hotel Martino Spa and Resort

Hotel Martino Spa and Resort

📍 In Front of ZooAve, Provincia de Alajuela, La Garita, Animas
★★★ 8.2 (77 reviews)

"We were forced to stay here when the airport hotel we had booked & prepaid 6 weeks in advance gave our room away the night before our arrival. Since we were in Costa Rica & Trip.com only gave us this one option we didn't feel like we had much alternative but to stay here. It was just like the photo below indicates. Like another guest said, it is like a ghost resort with a lot of empty buildings that are unused & not maintained. The room was very sparse (no desk, chair to sit in, etc.) & the bed like sleeping on a board. The only positive thing I can say is it did seem clean. I don't recommend staying here & I am upset that Trip.com didn't do a better job of finding us a decent place to stay. The restaurant also wasn't very good."

"Traffic is pretty bad going to this place at certain times. Otherwise, everything else is pretty good. Room can be very hot and there’s a fan for everyone to use. A bit noisy but better than nothing."

Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela ★★★★
"Spent one night in this hotel. Close to airport. Shuttle bus is not 24/7. Reached San Jose at 1.30 am. No more shuttle bus so it is best to check with hotel beforehand. The 24/7 is misleading and should be amended. Other than that, this hotel is good since it is very close to a long stretch of restaurants and Walmart is within walking distance."

"The hotel was built around 1903 and it is lovely! As would be expected the rooms are small but they have everything we needed for a one night stay before our flight. The beds were comfortable. The courtyard provides a great environment for a glass of wine or some reading. The gentleman kindly chilled the wine we had purchased at a local store. We also took his recommendations about places to eat and had an enjoyable evening out."
