"This is not a hotel or resort, as some websites and reviews suggest, but rather an insanely overpriced “villaggio” (holiday village). It is not common to see dogs and donkeys wandering freely around hotel or resort premises. The “Facilities” section on the booking platform included highlights such as “beachfront” and “free Wi-Fi,” among others, which led us to book 4 nights at this villaggio. Both of these claims are incorrect or misleading. This property is not located on the beachfront. To access the advertised Ivy Beach, guests must either drive or walk 10–15 minutes, depending on their pace. Parking at the beach is not complimentary, and the use of sunbeds costs €20–30 per day (with a 20% discount for guests). Interestingly, neither the receptionist nor the owner knew the actual beach prices, aside from the guest discount. Also puzzling and misleading is the photo on the booking site showing white canopy sunbeds on a beach, which, as admitted by the staff, has no connection to Ivy Beach. It seems clearly intended to give unsuspecting potential guests the impression that the property is located directly by the sea, which it is not. Wi-Fi is available only in the reception and restaurant area—not in the rooms. This is relevant, as the property is designed like a campsite, with individual, semi-detached bungalows. There is no Wi-Fi reception in individual guest rooms, and cellular reception is also poor. Pool or beach towels were not provided; only after some discussion with the owner—following the receptionist’s firm “no towels” stance—were we given two additional white shower towels. The room itself was most basic and had a cheap and somewhat dirty appearance (e.g., shower curtains, toilet seats, beds and bedsheets, etc.). The walls are very thin; you can hear your neighbor snoring and doing other things. Overall, the experience resembled that of a 2-star bed & breakfast—far below what the listing suggested. (While it is currently rated 3 stars, the presence of 4 stars on the key holders remains a mystery.) Given the limited amenities and overall service quality, the pricing does not reflect the value offered. Everything is of the cheapest quality imaginable, making it clear that the owner prioritizes profit over guest satisfaction. There clearly are better options in the area; unfortunately, they were fully booked at the time of our reservation. We initially booked four nights, but after realizing that we had been misled, we wanted to leave after the first night. The owner firmly refused any refund, stating that it was the online platform that processed the payment, not her. However, after I mentioned that I would contact the booking platform, she offered to refund two nights—not three. This conversation occurred at 9 AM, well before check-out time. We found the owner’s approach to be rather rude. When I contacted the booking platform to file a complaint, they offered to reach out to the property, which would have up to 48 hours to "

"Small Mansard Room has many clever space saving features, with ample shelves and cupboards (and lots of wooden hangers) which make the room quite efficient. The doors and ceiling are low, but we knew this beforehand and were SO glad we booked it, to guarantee a sea view balcony. Having a 2nd balcony facing the opposite direction towards the mountains was a fun luxury. (We don’t know how we have managed in the past. Clearly one needs a different balcony for sunrise than for sunset ;-) The mountain view one had a roof which made life pleasant on our one very wet day. Many small luxuries including a kettle and teabags, with proper teacups. There were both water glasses and wine glasses, and most importantly, a corkscrew. Also a generous selection of snacks as part of the minibar. There was mosquito room repellent, but we found we didn’t need to use it. There were bedside lights and one overhead light, but I would have preferred the room a bit brighter overall. There were multiple electrical plugs on both sides of the bed. Sure, space was a bit tight in places, but goodness, they thought of everything to make our stay comfortable, even a washing line for wet swimsuits etc, with a few pegs. The buffet breakfast was great and had a large selection of local items including bakery bread and multiple varieties of cheeses and jams, even prickly pear flavour. After seeing them growing all over the island, the jam was delicious and our only hotel that had it. Also among all the choices of cakes, look out for the yummy chocolate tart! An especially thoughtful gesture was the flexibility on using the hotel facilities after we had checked out of our room. This enabled us to shower in the gym building following our canoeing adventure. They even offered to let us keep hold of the room towels to do so. (There’s a laundry basket in the shower room to put them in afterwards). A word about the canoes. We knew it would be physically demanding, but we failed to grasp just how difficult it would be. Two canoes were left for us at the shore along with 2 life vests, which we noticed were different sizes to suit us (thank you!). No instructions. We later learned from experienced friends that it truly is impossible to get back into a canoe unassisted, once it is in the water. It will repeatedly flip over unless another person comes alongside and lays their paddle across the other canoe to stabilise it. Unfortunately, I lacked the skill to get anywhere near my husband. Thank goodness he had a life vest, which had a clip in the middle, but it didn’t have a cord or way of securing it at the bottom edge. As a result, the vest went up overhead multiple times, but he managed to wriggle it back down as he held onto his canoe, arms overhead. I’m guessing the canoes and vests are outsourced, not property of the hotel, but the vests could probably use an upgrade. To be fair, it did its job.
