Welcome to Dragon Fly Lane  - a serene escape for both tourists and locals alike. Perfectly nestled close to the beginning of the Cabot Trail in North Gut . We are close to everything but yet you are tucked away in total privacy. It is a wonderful base to do all your sightseeing, hiking or just to relax and drink in nature . Although the previous owner had not finished the house , I had everything redone , updated or put in new .The house has a keyless lock system and you will be given the code before your arrival . Put the code in to open the door . There are 6 security cameras located all around the outside of the house . They are monitored when the house is not rented , but if there is any issue I can go back in the history to find any day in question .As you enter the house from the back door the laundry room is there , washer, dryer, ironing board , iron and Nellie's laundry soda but feel free to bring your own detergent and dryer sheets .There is no door on the room and the washer can be noisy. Bathrooms :The downstairs 3 piece bathroom and the upstairs 4 piece bathroom have shampoo, conditioner, and exfoliant body wash and toilet paper provided but if you prefer bring your own . There is a hairdryer in both bathrooms as well as bathmats .The towels are in each bedroom .The Bedrooms :All bedrooms have ceiling fans , blinds and black out drapes . There are extra pillows and blankets in the closets. The downstairs bedroom has a queen sized bed and is located across from the bathroom. It overlooks the back yard and hills . Upstairs are two large bedrooms ,The back bedroom overlooks the driveway and the hills . It has 2 single beds and 1 double bed . There is a desk and chair by the window for natural light if you want to work . The front bedroom has two queen sized beds and a deck that is a wonderful place to start your day with a beautiful sunrise ( usually very colorful ) or at night check out the stars ! The kitchen has modern appliances, French door fridge, electric stove, dishwasher . It is fully stocked with dishes and cutlery ,coffee machine, toaster , kettle ,hand mixer , pots and pans, some baking pans , dish clothes and towels , dish soap . We do not use paper towels so if you want them you should bring them . We do have reusable wipe clothes that are washed and disinfected after each use . There is also a bar table and 2 chairs .The dining room:Has a large table with 6 chairs and 2 benches that will seat 10 people . There are placemats provided for the table .The living room:There is a smart TV . There is no cable or satellite tv. Netflix is available . There is also high speed fibre op for streaming or if you are working on your computer .The basement is locked and for the owners use only .Outside :There is a barbeque on the back deck . There are a couple of tables and chairs outside if you wish to eat in the fresh air .There is a seating area with a firepit . Depending on the fire index outside fires maybe banned . You will be told if that is in place . There is a path to the shore where you can walk along and see what has washed up , go for a dip or just enjoy the sounds of the water . Here are some highlights to plan your trip from Dragon Fly Lane . . . The Gaelic College is about 2 kms away and you can see it across the water from the house so it very convenient for attending the school or any events . During the summer they have music at noon some evenings . Check with them for their schedule .Englishtown is located about 15 minutes away off the TCH 105 at Exit 12 . You can use that exit if you are going to Ingonish via the Englishtown Ferry . It is about a 2 minute load and go 12-15 car ferry that is free and no reservations are needed . Interested in a boat tour and seeing Puffins, Donelda's Puffin Boat Tours is located just before the ferry , same Donelda that is your hostess ! It is approx. 45 minutes ( if you have to wait for the ferry that increases the time ) to Ingonish where there are great beaches, golfing, the only Gondola located at Ski Cape Smokey and amazing scenery . You can turn right when you come out of our driveway and follow the Cabot Trail to Ingonish . We are about 20 minutes to Baddeck, where you can visit Alexander Graham Bell Museum , lots of great shops , take a stroll on the waterfront or enjoy a great meal in one of the many eateries . Just outside of the village is Usigh a Ban Falls which is a great for a picnic or you can do the hike .Sydney is about an hours drive where the cruise ships dock at the Big Fiddle . Louisbourg is about an 1.5 drive where you can enjoy a step back in time visiting the Fortress . The property has a peacefulness about it even if you should hear a truck or airplane . Take a stroll to the shore , sit on one of the 3 decks and enjoy your morning coffee, read a book or just drink in the beauty .If you're lucky you'll see dragonflies !Things to know : 1. We do not refund if you do not show up on the day your stay starts or chose to leave early .2.There is no smoking or any kind allowed in the house . Situated on a hillside overlooking the historic St. Ann’s bay, the Old Trail cabin is conveniently located just 5.5km from the start of the Cabot trail and the Gaelic College.A great spot to start or finish your Cabot Trail adventures! The cabin is designed to feel as open and airy as possible for a small space. The bedroom has a queen bed and the loft has a single bed. Kitchenette has coffee maker, toaster, mini fridge and microwave. All amenities needed are only 15 mins away in Baddeck.- Please note that there is no oven/range in the cabin however there is a Bbq for your use.The Old Trail cabin sits just off the original Cabot Trail. The old road is now a walking path that leads to the Lewis mountain multi use trail. Enjoy the beautiful views of the bay from the porch or living room while unwinding after a day of adventure.Cell phones do work there and it has high speed internet. Although it is encouraged that screen time be replaced with socializing, games, star gazing and good old fashioned getting outdoors. A short walk up the paved road is a lovely beach which is accessible through the Macleod pioneer cemetery. There is a outdoor fire pit, please check to be sure a fire is permitted, simply google “NS burn map”Plenty of local sights, hikes and activities all within a five to fifteen minute drive. Including kayaking, restaurants, fishing and waterfalls. Things to note about the cabin. You can drive a vehicle right up to the door, but it is a bit steep and a little tight. But not to worry if you are uncomfortable with it, there is ample flat parking 50ft away.Due to its location and the ladder stairs leading to the loft, the cabin is not wheelchair accessible and anyone with mobility issues should also be aware of these obstacles.
