Overall, we had a lovely stay at the Cairn Hotel.

Booked a Carlton double in the annexe, as preferred the blue theme decor, but was allocated a double in the main hotel upon arrival. The wood theme decor, coupled with the small window, made the room quite dark. It was a bit dated, but had everything we needed, including a mini fridge. Bathroom was compact, but it was fine and the shower was really good, however the water pressure was low at times.

Breakfast was excellent. Self service full english with a selection of cereals, pastries, yoghurts and cold meat/cheese. Fab service in a lovely setting . Really enjoyed it all 3 mornings.

Very happy with the price paid, and we got breakfast included in the booking, which made it great value.

Good location, with plenty of bars and restaurants in the immediate area, and with West Jesmond Metro only a 5minute walk away, it is perfect for getting into town.

Would definitely consider returning if the price remains competitive.

It was an okay stay. The facilities are doable and the hotel is well located. It is within walking distance of the city centre, which makes for ease of access.

We had a great stay at the hotel, right in the center of Newcastle. The location was perfect for easily reaching everything in the city. The room was warm, clean, and comfortable, making our stay enjoyable. Unfortunately, the swimming pool wasn’t working last night, and the hot tub wasn’t quite warm enough, but aside from that, everything else was excellent. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’d definitely stay here again.

Very spacious hotel.  Checkin needed to be done at the holiday inn nearby.  Free car park but space is very limited.  Overall it was great.

My daughter and I loved The Old Ship Hotel. The location was perfect, the beach is just over the road, the Pier was a few minutes walk away and the shops are basically just round the corner. Our room (a twin room) was bigger than I expected. Tea and coffee with a kettle was great as I was gasping for a cuppa when we arrived. They even supplied ear plugs because it can be a little bit noisey at night (this was mainly from the large hotel opposite). Quite a large bathroom, with a bath and shower, and complimentary shower gel, shampoo and soap. The room was clean and no dodgy smells. There was a fan, but we didn't need it, the partially open window was enough. We didn't ask for a room with a sea view, but it could be seen if you looked to the right. We were on the 3rd floor and there is nothing wrong with the lift (ignore other reviews). Breakfast was great, a decent selection to suit everyone. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant one night; it was amazing! A decent price too. There was loads of seating on the ground floor. The bar was great too. We needed to store our luggage before and after and it was stored securely, with a numbered tag, only staff could access it (unlike a different hotel nearby that simply left your luggage near the reception desk for anyone to access). 
Considering the low price we paid, the hotel truly was amazing. Lovely staff, clean everywhere, big rooms, great food, fantastic location, what more could you ask for! 
I will be booking again next year. My mum could easily come with us, she uses a walker, and the hotel would definitely be suitable for a less able person.

The hotel's location is great, about a 15-minute walk from Cardiff train station, and very close to Cardiff Castle. I asked the staff and learned that the hotel is over 400 years old. It used to have an underground tunnel connecting to Cardiff Castle, but it was sealed off after the 2014 NATO Castle Gala. The hotel itself has a castle-like style, and the mini-elevator feels like a step back in time. Breakfast was delicious, and they offer free luggage storage.
