"We spent 10 nights at this hotel and it was a wonderful experience throughout. We were allocated a junior suite at the rear of the hotel. Large bedroom with very comfortable bed and excellent bathroom with large walk-in shower. The whole place is spotlessly clean and maintained. Daily service and towels changed. The pool and bar areas are lovely and adequate space without problems in getting a lounger. Beach towels are also provided. Breakfast was good with a large choice of hot and cold food and an omelette station. I would like to thank the team of staff who looked after us so well. These being Kleopatra, Christos, Elena, Pandelis & Rafael and the reception staff who are extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is also in a good location with several tavernas and 3 beaches in short walking distance. The bus stop is literally 2 minutes away with very regular buses to Chania for €2. I would not say Doratso has typical Greek charm but this wouldnt deter us from returning to this lovely hotel."

And then, on the way home and long after, every time I thought back on our vacation, I tried to understand why we answered that way. Yes, we love to travel - new experiences and new places! From primitive cottages and mountain huts to luxurious full-service hotels with panoramic sea views. Some places were boring, some were exciting, but rarely have we had a vacation which was not - in some way - memorable and joyful. So, what made this one so special? Originally, we chose this hotel because it was close to a beautiful and fascinating coastline, in a peaceful area with wonderful beaches, while still being within walking distance of the old, enchanting city of Chania, with houses and restaurants right at the waterfront and an old Venetian lighthouse overlooking the historical harbour. The hotel was reasonably priced and came with a breakfast option. It turned out to be small, cosy, simple and practical, with spacious rooms. We even had a porch view straight out to the pool. But what made it special were the people there. I have rarely met a staff more personable, friendly and helpful. Within a day, they felt more like family than staff to us. And there was something in the atmosphere of the place, so liberating, leaving you with a sense of freedom and relaxation. What was it that made it like that? I breathed deeply, letting the memories drift through my mind. And like a whisper, a word appeared in my mind: "sincerity." That is why I think we will - for the first time ever - choose to go back to a place we have already been for our next vacation. Not for the luxury of the stay, but for the beauty of Crete and the treasure of the golden hearts."

"Great time spent in June 2025. The hosts are great. Thank you very much, Maria and your husband and Giorgios for the warm welcome and for ensuring our stay is relaxing and very enjoyable. Location around 15 min walk from Lidl, Synka and about 10 min from the closest sea, you are close to 3 beaches - Yannis, Iguana and Sunset beach from Agioi Apostoli, 15 min by bus to Chania center. The apartment has all you need for your vacation to be without any worries, clean room, well equipped kitchen (also a sandwich maker inside :) ), towels changed twice in a week and linen once but it was ok for us, garbage taken daily. Breakfast and access to a pool at the sister-hotel. Thank you very much again!"

"We recently had a 9 day stay at these beautiful apartments. Loved the chilled out vibe, it was so relaxing. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, no scramble for sun loungers by the pool. It’s a little off the beaten track but plenty of lovely tavernas within a couple of minutes walk. Several beaches close by also and excellent bus service (No 21) to Chania every 15 minutes until 1 a.m. I did the Samaria gorge hike while there which I was able to book through the hotel, an unforgettable experience. We also loved the resident cats, one of whom took to having a nap in our apartment every day."

The three guys at the reception (Yiannis, Christina and Nikos) were incredibly friendly, smiling and willing to help us with anything we needed. Mrs. Argyro, the cook, enchanted us with the incredible handmade things she made with a lot of love – in fact, on the last day she asked us what we liked so she could prepare it for us! Also, the cleaning ladies, Georgia and Maria, made sure the room was spotless, changing towels and sheets every day. We had a wonderful time with our child and we highly recommend it to every family. We will definitely be back!”"
