"I booked accommodation for 13 people in the middle of summer for the New Year’s Eve period. They could only solve it by offering one 8-person and one 6-person apartment, which we had no problem with. However, upon arrival we were faced with the fact that the two accommodations were located almost at the two farthest points of Erzberg 2 — not next to each other, not opposite each other, nor above/below one another, but on opposite sides of the road. When I raised this issue, the question was turned back on me, asking why I hadn’t indicated that we wanted to be close to each other. According to them, it is not obvious that if someone wants to book accommodation for 13 people AT THE SAME TIME, they would want those 13 people to be as close to each other as possible if there is no single apartment that can accommodate everyone. We would have paid for two 8-person apartments if they had been next to each other, but of course we had no information about the layout, because we were only informed upon arrival. Naturally, the place was fully booked and they could not solve it in any other way, and of course the accommodation had already been paid for. We wouldn’t have found anything else for 13 people anywhere else in the country anyway… this was day zero. We received the keys: one key for the 8-person apartment and one key for the 6-person apartment. At first, we didn’t see this as a problem; we thought we simply wouldn’t lock the doors until everyone had left and then again in the evening. However, the entrance door to the apartments could also only be opened with this same key — and only with this one — as there are no door handles on them. Upon arrival, some people might consider this level of cleanliness acceptable, but it really wasn’t. The walls were scratched and scribbled on, there was dust under the sofa, and towels were just piled on top of each other. The water did not drain in the shower cabin; it stood there all day unless someone manually pushed it toward the drain with their foot for about fifteen minutes. There was no rubber bathroom squeegee or window wiper available to help drain the water either. In the bedrooms, the so-called convenience light switch was placed right in the middle of the headboard, so if someone turns in their sleep at night, it is guaranteed that the light will be switched on. The icing on the cake was that I specifically asked whether fireworks were allowed on New Year’s Eve, as I am not familiar with the local regulations. I was told that they were not permitted. As a result, we didn’t buy any, even though there were children who surely would have enjoyed them. However, after checking the regulations, fireworks are in fact allowed in Austria on December 31 between 11:00 PM and 12:30 AM. I don’t want to exaggerate, but practically everyone was setting off fireworks during that time — except us. When I mentioned this, they said it was not their responsibility. They were sorry.
