Tea Garden Holiday Inn

"We had a confirmed booking at “Tea Garden Holiday Inn” in Ella, but on arrival at 7 PM om 20th April, (after informing them in advance), the host /manager refused check-in, saying it’s “not suitable for elderly people.” This was never mentioned during booking, despite us having elderly family members and an infant. We were left stranded at night after a long journey. The host also misled us to another property claiming it was theirs, which turned out to be false and more expensive. Very unprofessional and irresponsible. I would not recommend this place."

"We stayed here for 1 night at the end of May'26. We are af amily of 4. Hence got a large look with 2 queen beds. The room had a very good view of the hills around. POsitives: 1. New hotel where everything is clean. 2. Very good views 3. Nice infinity pool 4. Excellent food. Hotel was flexible to convert our breakfast into a set menu lunch as we were delayed (after coming back from a hike and the 9 arches bridge). 5. The Sri Lankan lunch dished out by Chef Mr. Asela was the BEST food we had in our entire Sri Lanak trip of 8 days and 7 nights. He was attentive and dished this lunch for us instead of breakfast. This was an excellent meal 6. Traditional welcome was nice Negatives: 1. Located about 300-400 mtrs down the main road where your normal van wont go. Small cars can go. 2. You have to message the hotel to send their Tuktuk to pick you up from the road. 3. Slightly outside town, not much though about a 5 mins Tuktuk ride. BUt I dont think th enegatives are much. This is a lovely hotel. recommended."

"Stay away from this hotel! The hotel rooms isn’t what’s pictured on booking sites, the entrance is through a forest on a mountain and through other buildings. The walls is stained, door is leaking, and the room are nasty. The entrance pathway crumbled under me so a nail went through my foot and got several scratches. It is NOT a hotel, not even a bungalow. I would rather sleep with the homeless dogs than stay there one night. We checked out 30 minutes after we checked in. At least the manager was nice enough to give a full refund and drive us to another hotel."

"Very good place to stay with awesome views. The staff took great care off us. Only downside to gaving good views the location is quite far from the city centre. So pick me and uber drivers won't take any rides since the app prices are way cheaper so no choice but to pay tourist fares. Room as an electric fan but AC would have been nice."

"We stayed here two nights. It is a small ride to get to the hotel, but the hotel itself is totally worth it! We were welcomed friendly and they provide you with a whatsapp number to provide your dinner/breakfast preferences. If you need anything, they respond quickly. Food is good and plenty of choice. For breakfast you can choose between western and Sri Lankan food."

"Stayed for 2 nights in November in the family room with mountain view & our own roof terrace with table, chairs & hammocks. Our room was very nice, clean & the beds were comfortable. Bathroom was a good size. The breakfast was delicious & the view from the roof terrace was great & we were lucky enough to watch a giant squirrel building it's nest at the top of a tree, as well as see some tiny squirrels & it was lovely to see & hear the birds singing early in the morning. The owner Nimal was welcoming & very friendly & helpful. It's a short tuktuk ride into the centre, or you can walk - take a torch if walking in the dark There is a nice restaurant very close to the hotel too."

"I'm writing this review some time later, but I stayed at Laksmis Hotel for a 'big' birthday weekend back in March. Although I made a very last minute booking, the place was very clean and comfortable with a lovely breakfast. It was great value compared to some of the other local hotels and conveniently located for the local bars and restaurants, although (like many places in Ella) there's a bit of a steep walk to reach it. Most of the staff contact I has was with Rashan, who extremely friendly and helpful. I'd certainly recommend this place and would definitely stay again next time I visit Ella."
