Our room specifically had a broken faucet that kept randomly squeaking and we had to play with it several times to make it stop. We were also charged 200 quetzales more than our reservation said."

Hotel Casa Turquesa
"Flores is tiny and many of the hotels are within a few blocks of each other. The Casa Turquesa provides a perfectly reasonable option for two nights on your visit to Tikal. My room on the first floor was on the small side and the only window faced a hallway, not outdoors. But who cares. Bed was comfortable, plenty of convenient electrical outlets, room was clean, decent hot water and shower. Powerful air conditioner. WiFi worked fine. Front desk assistance was hit or miss. Some were great but some didn't want to be bothered. The room had a water bottle at check in but they made me pay (about US$0.80) the second night. Not much money but a PITA when you are managing a foreign currency, as they did not give change. There is an ATM down the street but it only gave me a credit card cash advance, not a checking withdrawal. They give you vouchers for an OUTSTANDING breakfast at a hotel next door (you can eat outdoors on the lake). One warning...they do offer a reasonably priced tour of Tikal. The guides were excellent. They split it into Spanish and English groups so you didn't have to listen to a translation at every stop. The Spanish speaking guide also spoke English and was a knowledgeable student of Mayan religious beliefs. Consider timing your trip for one of the solstices or equinoxes. Although it would probably be more crowded. BUT...the van that they use for the 90 minute ride was painfully cramped. No legroom whatsoever and there is a drop down seat in the aisle so you literally can't move. I wasn't sure that I would be able to walk afterwards. So perhaps, if you are over 5 foot 7, look into more comfortable transportation. And make sure that you have local currency and passport for the Tikal entrance fee, which was 150 Quetzals (approx US$20) in January 2025. So, yes, you can stay at the Casa Turquesa and perhaps save US$10 a night over some of the other options and get a great free breakfast."

"Very nice room , simple but complete , very clean . The restaurant serves very good breakfast with a view of the lake . The reception is a little hidden and people appear to leave their post early. Had to look for it . No information was given on where to go for dinner and they forgot to put water in our room. It was ok but the service could be better (except at the breakfast restaurant)"

"I had asked the front desk when the sunrise Tikal tour would end. In the reply, the manager stated return at 11AM. My flight was slated to depart around 1:30PM. Upon check in, I tried to double confirm and the manager now states that the tour will start to leave Tikal at 11AM, making me miss my flight. As an alternative, the manager offered to have someone give a private tour for 1200 Quetzals. For 1200 Quetzals, the guide did not provide any water, mosquito repellent or flashlight. So what am I paying all of that money for? It was clear the front desk was trying to scam me with one of his friends to give me a crap sunrise tour and upcharge me to take a big cut. Avoid this scam hotel!"

"Hotel room was on the top floor which would give good views although the communal terrace is right outside your window. For me, it was never a problem, but I can imagine if some rowdy guests were talking or drinking on the terrace it would cause disruptions."

"TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE – ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED I visited Ixpanpajul Nature Park and it was one of the worst travel experiences ever. • The prices are extremely high, but there is nothing worth seeing – just a boring and pointless walk. • While doing the canopy activity, oil was dripping from their equipment onto me, completely ruining my new shorts (see photos). • At the end, when I showed the damage to the reception staff, they simply laughed in my face and didn’t even apologize. • The level of service is unacceptable: for such prices, there should be at least basic care for customers, but here it’s total negligence. ⚠️ This place is abandoned, overpriced, and not worth a single penny. ❌ I absolutely do not recommend it. It was a disastrous and horrible trip."
