"It started off well (sarcasm). Arrived in the evening and they didn’t have my confirmed fully paid booking and told me I had the wrong place. After a conversation and then looking at their system, they found my booking email but there was no room still. Could put me up for the night, but the rest of the week would be sorted in the morning. And, it was sorted. Failed to contact me to advise though. I needed to go to reception. The staff were pleasant and I understand these things happen. My issues were with the room and housekeeping. The room stank. It wasn’t quite a mustiness or a rotten smell, kind of something in between. There was a thick layer of dust on all the wall hanging. The bathroom extraction fan was totally clogged with dust so that it didn’t actually extract anything. There was always little fruit flies buzzing about and the cockroach climbing over the TV wasn’t pleasant. The usual extra hard bed you find in hotels 😦. No instructions for the oven or dishwasher. Took a little to figure them out. In fact, no room compendium so no information about anything. Frying pan handle was snapped off and just sitting next to the pan. The furniture seemed a bit old and sitting on the sofa made my allergies flare up. As for housekeeping, in addition to never dusting anything, all they did each day was empty the trash, triangle the toilet paper and only half the time, make the bed. I had to ask for fresh towels. The towels I left on the floor for housekeeping to remove each day, stayed there the whole week. They just never took them. I don’t expect housekeeping do to the odd dishes that I had. I find most serviced apartments do, but not here, so I did them myself, but housekeeping never replaced the dishwasher detergent so dishes were done with just water 😕. I put a pizza box next to the bin for housekeeping to remove, but they didn’t. It stayed there all week, and in fact it toppled over and prevented the cupboard for the bin from closing, like full blown half ajar, not just a little crack. I left it like that the whole week wondering if housekeeping would try to see why it wasn’t closing and remove the pizza box, but didn’t happen. I won’t stay at this place again"

"A very friendly and affordable hotel, perfect for tourists taking the Gladstone ferry to the island. The shop owner will drive to the dock the next day. They also helped us store our extra luggage in the store for free for four days and picked it up when we came back from the island. Very good, definitely recommended!"

I didn’t try the dinner or breakfast buffet, however it did look and smell good. I’d definitely stay here again if travelling that way!"

"I was looking back at my travel diary, and feel compelled to leave a good review for this awesome place It's got the best /ruby red and dark wood) kitchen I have ever been in, my dream kitchen; it has a lovely lounge room with a pet turtle in a tank, and a gentle friendly dog with beautiful eyes was also outside. It's like a home away from home for the many young people there. The owners are lovely, honest, kind and helpful and fair. The house is huge, like a mansion, and we ate dinner on the huge 2nd story balcony which was lovely. I recommend this place due to the fantastic owners and the beautiful vibe of the mansion."

"We arrived to be greeted by a mongrel dog owned by one of the long term residence. There's a car with no number plates, full of trash parked in front of their unit. The guy upstairs did a drug deal right in front of me. The bins are located at the front of the hotel so it's one of the first things you see, they were all overflowing and reeked, they probably don't get cleaned after bin day pick up. We haven't even stepped into our room and we are already dreading what we might find. Well it was as expected, beds weren't made properly, pillows looked like someone threw them on the bed from the doorway, the room smelt dirty and unclean. We used own our bed linen we were fortunate enough to have with us. The so-called drinking glasses were filthy and still had someone's lip impression around the top of the glass. The latch on the door was broken and just hanging there doing absolutely nothing. We had showers and while doing so there was a disgusting odour coming up from the drains. We had booked the unit for 2 nights, we stayed one night as we had driven a long way to get there and it was Good Friday and there wasn't any other accommodation close by. We left very early the next morning, never to return again."
