"Beautiful place and nice room"

"My wife and I recently paid well above $1,000 for a night at the Diamond Suites, which is the separately branded top floor of the Hotel Keflavik. That's a lot of money, but we were wrapping up a special trip and wanted to end on a high note. The room looked nice, but nothing worked and the stay was a serious disappointment. First, the thermostat would not cool below 24.5 C (high 70s in Fahrenheit), so we had to open the window and deal with a lot of street noise. Second, and more importantly, the primary ceiling lighting which ran around the perimeter of the room would not turn off when we went to bed. We tried to ignore it but it was like trying to sleep in broad daylight. After 30 minutes or so, we tried to call downstairs but the phone didn't work. My wife went downstairs to reception in her bedclothes to seek help. A young man who said he was the manager came to the room and spent 10 minutes pushing all the same buttons we had been pushing, and he achieved the same result: the lights wouldn't go off. He did manage to turn the bright yellow lights into bright red lights and suggested we try sleeping with those on, as there were no other rooms he could move us to. When we said no, his suggestion was to trip the breaker so we would have no electricity in the room; since the phone didn't work, he said we could come downstairs in the morning and ask them to reset the breaker so we would again have electricity. That was obviously a non-starter for us. He then disappeared for 10-15 minutes and came back with a tool kit and after another 10 minutes or so managed to disable the malfunctioning light switch. He said they would make an adjustment to the room cost because of the troubles. When we saw him in the morning at checkout, the young man said they would comp us for our dinner in the hotel restaurant the night before. That was a nice gesture even if, as I believed, it was insufficient. We accepted without putting up a fight. Then my credit card bill arrived and they charged us for the dinner after all. It was a terrible experience on multiple levels, and it convinced us that this is a hotel to be avoided."

"Well, you sleep in boxes, it was fun for just one night stay, we arived very late at night and this was no problem at all. Compared to the low prices everything was ok. It would have been nice to be able to control the temperature in the box, but the air cycler did a fine job."
