"We had a nice stay at the Shoal Hotel on this our second stay. The location is good for a walk around La Jolla. We stayed over 4 days but unfortunately the stay was marred by the guest that stayed above our room. This person had a habit of shifting a suitcase or furniture on the floor above our room when we were trying to get some sleep. This happened on a second night between 2am and 4am which was particularly annoying. We understood that the reception was manned 24/7 but never found anybody in the reception area. When we mentioned this the next morning were told there was a phone number to call for 24/7 service of which we were unaware. Other travellers would be advised to check the hotel out of hours contact details unless they encounter the same experience as us. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and the local amenities."

"This hotel was special for us. I'd stayed in the nearby Regents building before, and this time, I chose this hotel for my return. Coincidentally, the front desk arranged a room on the edge overlooking the building, high-rise, and with a Juliet balcony. What a coincidence! Thank you!"

"The hotel can go directly to La Jolla from the back door to see the seal. The bed is very comfortable, but the sound insulation is not very good. The restaurant delivery service trolley can be heard clearly at night. There are few people in the gym. I stayed here for 2 days and went twice."

"The rooms are small cabins, but the highlight is the golf course. However, you need to book a month in advance. Parking is $50 per night. There are also miscellaneous resort fees. At $4000 per night without breakfast, it's a bit pricey. It's a pity we didn't hike the trail; we'll make up for it next time. It's very close to UCSD."

"Great location but room was awful. Small, noisy, paper thin walls. Uncomfortable beds. Seemed tired and dated. View was of parking lot. Property right on the sand though. But wouldn’t stay there again."

"The service was very good. I felt that the bath towels were not particularly clean, but everything else was good. Breakfast was ordered on the top floor. The view was great and it was delicious. The balcony was very nice to see the sea view, although it was very windy hahahaha"
