"The hotel is conveniently located and reasonably priced, but the rooms are a bit dated. There are plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, and shops nearby. The breakfast is good, with a coffee machine and English food, but the bathroom exhaust fan was broken, which was inconvenient."

Blair Villa South

"Service: It's a guesthouse-style hotel, quite clean and fragrant. The public areas, as shown in the picture, have a historical feel and character. Environment: Requires walking or driving up a small hill, but the location is easy to find. The views from the windows in the public areas are nice. Facilities: The rooms are quiet and have all the necessary amenities. Overall, it's quite good."

Oban Bay Hotel

"The hotel was ideally located and featured a modern, stylish interior. The only drawback was the breakfast offering, we would have preferred a buffet option for greater variety and convenience."

Oyster Inn Connel

"I can't tell you about my stay as I booked the wrong dates. As soon as I found out, I phoned The Oyster Inn to cancel but because I used Trip.com, they said there was nothing they could do. I cancelled on Trip.com and the message said that they'd contacted the hotel to confirm if it was ok to cancel FOC. According to trip.com, no response was forthcoming so my booking was not cancelled. My booking has since been "completed". When I contacted the hotel the following day to ask why they had not approved the cancellation, they said trip.com had simply asked for info, not to approve cancellation. Who is lying? Suffice to say, I will not use trip.com again and have decided to stay elsewhere in Oban."

"We had to change our travel plans at the last minute and were extremely lucky find a vacancy and spend the night here. The hosts, Darren and Karen, provide a warm welcome, very comfortable rooms, and a delicious breakfast. Added to that, there are stunning views from the breakfast room, and often creatures like rabbits, voles and pine marten just outside on the patio. With an excellent hotel and National Trust for Scotland gardens less than 2 minutes stroll away you don't have to travel far to enjoy this stunning corner of Scotland. Our hosts had an enormous library of guidebook, plus personal knowledge of the region to provide advice on how we could enhance our visit. Falls of Lora Hotel

"I was travelling alone and unfortunately had an experience here that left me extremely distressed and feeling unsafe. At around 8pm there was a knock at my bedroom door. Before I had answered, the door was unlocked from outside. My clear recollection is that a male Director of the hotel opened the door and entered my room. The hotel now says that he only opened the door slightly and did not enter. That is not my recollection of what happened. At the time, I was told that a new receptionist had made a mistake. I asked the Director whether I was actually staying in the room and he replied, "I don't know", then walked away. I was left not knowing whether the room I had paid for was mine or whether I was going to be moved. The hotel has since accepted in writing that this conversation understandably left me uncertain and concerned, although its later explanation for the incident was that there had been a technical failure of its booking system. What upset me almost as much as the incident itself was the response to my complaint. The hotel pointed out that it was approximately 8pm, when they would reasonably expect most guests to be awake, and that a Do Not Disturb sign was available. I found this deeply troubling. Whether a guest is awake should surely be irrelevant. I could have been asleep, showering or changing. I was alone in what I believed was the privacy of my hotel bedroom. I understand that hotel management needs access to rooms in emergencies and for legitimate reasons. My complaint is about the way this particular situation was handled and the distress it caused me. I requested a refund of £187.20, which the hotel refused. They have now issued their final response. I am posting this because other guests, particularly people travelling alone, may consider bedroom privacy and security important when choosing a hotel. This was my experience and my honest recollection of what happened. I left feeling extremely upset and I would not stay here again."

Muthu Queens Hotel

"This Hotel fell short in so many ways. Travelling for 6 weeks in the UK and this had been the most disappointing. The lift didn’t work, the TV didn’t work and took several trips up and down the stairs and 3 hrs later to get someone to come. Exhausted after travelling we just wanted to rest. I’ve got a bad knee and degenerative arthritis so I only book hotels with lifts (no email to say it was out of order) and naturally with a large 26kg bag for Scotland’s hot and cold weather and no staff to get my bag up it was bloody awful. The room was in the add on so 6 fire doors, 2 hallways, two sets of 2 flights of stairs later I was already in pain. My mate had hers brought up but then the guy just left! After the tv debacle they replaced the TV after 2 remotes and offered the 4th floor! more steps- no thanks. The main light wouldn’t turn on, it just flickered like a strobe disco and they just smiled and said yes we know thankyou. No USB’s and no adapters (yes we had our own but every hotel has supplied so far). No bar staff with a beautiful bar and lounge area, you have to ask reception and wait til they can get to you. 29min for a g&t after a long day out walking. On return each day the key didn’t work so back down the stairs we go; to be told you must have had it near your phone. We said it’s still in its cupboard folder in a pocket in my bag-locked away, no where near a phone. Receptionist replies“ you must have”. Breakfast was good enough and the wait staff at breakfast were lovely. Evening reception not so much. Well appointed room. Overall Don’t do it to yourself without checking where you are actually staying!! I suggest the family have written the great reviews we read or stayed in the original section when the lift used to work????"

"There are two beds, one large and one small, with complete facilities and a large bathroom. Why is the sink so small in such a large space? There is a large parking lot next to it, and there is no charge on Saturdays."

Palace Hotel - Small Hotel

"The location is excellent: within a 5-minute walk of the ferry and train station, with restaurants right nearby. As it's an old building, there's no elevator, and the flights of stairs are quite long, which makes it challenging when you're carrying a large suitcase and other belongings. Adding to the challenge, the reception is oddly located on the first floor, so you have to lug everything up there just to check in. Upon check-in, you also have to complete and sign a form stating that bringing outside food or drinks into your room could lead to questioning or even eviction. This policy felt particularly strange when I later discovered a mini-fridge in the room – unplugged, of course, but then why have it there at all? The owner, noticing my struggle with the stairs, kindly offered to move me from my original 3rd-floor room (with a sea view) to a new room on the 1st floor, which had a shower but a garden view. Considering the climb, I accepted, especially since I had pre-paid, so it was to their benefit. So I moved into a room that the owner described as 'recently renovated'. Initially, it seemed fine, apart from the shower water taking a while to get hot. However, the very next morning, I woke up to find a worm on my fitted sheet! I called the owner and asked her to change the sheets at their expense (because, yes, if you request an extra change, you'll be charged for it). She agreed. But that very evening, I found several more, and by the following night, they were literally falling on my head! They seemed to be coming from the ceiling beam. 'Fantastic,' I thought, 'for a "recently renovated" room!' I decided to leave the hotel. Fortunately, as I was checking out, I encountered the owner's son. He was very understanding, thanked me for bringing the issues to their attention, and fully refunded my stay. For this unexpected gesture of goodwill, I decided to add an extra star to my rating."

Glencruitten House

"Glencruitten felt less like checking into a hotel and more like arriving somewhere with its own little world to explore. For families, that is such a win. There is so much to discover around the estate, from the woodland and tiny fairy doors to the little houses hidden along the trail. It gave the children something to get excited about while the adults could actually enjoy the surroundings too. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, and everything felt relaxed rather than overly formal. There was enough going on to make the stay feel special without having to constantly plan activities. Food was another highlight. Breakfast was generous, the service was warm and friendly, and the whole experience felt very personal rather than like staying in a large hotel. What really stood out was that Glencruitten manages to feel luxurious while still being somewhere a family can settle into and enjoy. It has that rare mix of beautiful surroundings, a bit of magic for the children and enough comfort for the adults to feel like they’ve had a proper break too."
