"As many reviews mention, staying here really takes you back to your youth hostel days. The toilets and showers are located on the same floor, and the room itself, well, let's just say it's a throwback to the 70s. However, the breakfast and the food are definitely four-star quality. The kitchen, by the way, is very modernly equipped. And you have to keep in mind, we're in Switzerland, so the price for the overnight stay is quite moderate, which certainly makes up for the aging facilities."

"After a hike, we spontaneously booked a room at the Dakota. The hotel is ideally located within a three-minute walk of Meiringen train station. Check-in was very quick and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The superior double room we booked was comfortable and the furnishings were well coordinated. The coffee machine didn't work and the kettle's cable is far too short, so you really have to try a few things to get it to work. Hopefully this is better solved in the other rooms! The box spring bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well. The sanitary area was rather small but everything you need was there. Unfortunately, the radiator for drying the bath and hand towels didn't work. The Hotel Dakota was renovated in 2020. Now that everything is still fairly "new", you can't see it yet...but defects are already becoming visible here and there, which is a real shame. Examples: the radiators mentioned, then the skirting boards, the water damage to the bathroom doors, which seem to be caused by the poorly thought-out shower trays in the small bathroom. There are a few more details... The breakfast buffet was OK. However, the selection was rather poor for a four-star hotel. We thought the option of freshly squeezed orange juice was very good! We found the staff at the Hotel Dakota very nice. We only had good experiences in the breakfast area and at reception. Once again we thought, what would the Swiss hotel industry do without foreign staff. Conclusion: A beautiful hotel, in a good but quiet location, comfortable rooms, very nice staff. For us, that outweighs the few points of criticism mentioned. We would stay here again and can recommend the Hotel Dakota!"

"The staff were incredibly friendly. They were the friendliest I've had during my trip to Europe. They always check to see if anything is amiss or if they can help. However, the problem with this hotel lies in its location and facilities. It was overcast most of the two days I stayed, so it didn't live up to its reputation as a panoramic hotel. (I'm not sure if this only happens in autumn, but the clouds were incredibly thick and wouldn't clear. I've attached a photo so you can judge for yourself...) I paid a lot of money for the view, and the clouds made more than half of that money disappear. As I write this, I'm curious to see what the view at this hotel would be like on a beautiful day when the clouds cleared. Also, the facilities are old, so the space feels cramped and stuffy. As is typical of most older Swiss hotels, there's no refrigerator or air conditioning. There's even a teapot, so you have to ask reception to borrow one, which they kindly lend to you for free. There were no slippers or robes either. Just assume the room lacks anything you'd expect. The lack of a heater made it very cold during my stay."

"We stayed at the Hotel Gletscherblick for two nights while skiing and were delighted by its proximity to the gondola lift, the friendly and helpful staff, the uncomplicated atmosphere, and the reasonable prices. A particular treat is the decor in the lobby and dining room. Retro furniture is rarely seen in such authentic condition, as it has most likely been there for decades. The fact that the building is very noisy and the rooms have old carpeting might bother some – but it didn't bother me. And did I mention the fantastic view of the Rosenlaui Glacier?"

"Fantastic hotel. Very good value. Tasty food and a good breakfast. The receptionist, Amanda, was super friendly and helpful and gave us some great recommendations, we loved the bears in Bern!! Good location near the Grimsel Pass with decent public transport connections (bus stops practically outside). Nice atmosphere in a mountain hotel and the rooms were comfortable."
