Hospedaje El Viajero
8.5 (32 reviews)

Hospedaje El Viajero ★★

📍 Calle Santander 555, Panajachel

"Stayed two nights in this hotel located just two blocks from the lake shore. The room was a little dark but comfortable. I was able to use a small kitchen to cook. There is also free tea and coffee pretty much throughout the day. A bilingual parrot is a nice attraction and is a totally free bird. They can organize transportation to Antigua or Guatemala City. All in all good value for your dollar/quetzal."

Porta Hotel del Lago
8.9 (114 reviews)

Porta Hotel del Lago ★★★★

📍 2A Av. 6-17, Panajachel

"It's a 3-hour bus ride from Antigua and a 4-hour bus ride to Guatemala Airport. This is the third best hotel near Lake Atitlán, right next to the lake. The rooms are clean, the service is excellent, and they agreed to a late check-out. Drinking water is available outside the room. A stroll through the shopping street takes about an hour. The lakeside restaurants all have scenic views, but business was slow in November due to low customer numbers. However, prices are slightly high, and the hotel's paid breakfast is monotonous and Western-style. Central American food might be uncomfortable for a Chinese stomach after a while. Buying an automatic voltage converter or a 110V small pot to cook hot water and noodles on the go is necessary; otherwise, food is expensive and not suitable for long-term stays. There's a beautiful garden hotel a 10-minute walk away, which is a great spot for photos and closer to the lake. Overall, I recommend this hotel."

Hospedaje El Viajero ★★
"In a town with many fine, affordable hotels, this remains my favourite. I showed up unexpected this time, without reservation. Marie, the wonderful host, said "Room with private bathroom?" I said "sure". $40; two nights, in a clean, cozy, safe and relaxing little spot. What more could you ask for? If you're looking for glamour or big, elegant courtyards or verandas, those hotels are around, for six or seven times the price, but if small, clean, welcoming, and modest is all you need, this is the place for you. Literally two blocks from tje main market, including the fabulous Mercado Artisan, where you'll find EVERY beautiful Guatemalan handcraft available, and maybe five short blocks to the central square. Lord willing, I will be back soon, and Hospedaje El Viajero will be where I stay!"

Socialtel Atitlan ★★★
"I booked a “suite” / room with ensuite bathroom. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable. However hot water in the shower was rather lukewarm. Also, no one came to make the bed / clean for 2 days. There was also a lot of noise from the street going to the harbour. The pool could be heated up considering it was not crazy warm ouside. Net, poor value for money (125$/night)"

Hotel El Sol ★★
"This hotel has private rooms and also contains a shared dorm space or hostel. The owner is very friendly but you need to speak Spanish (limited English). We have never seen such clean and beautiful tile floors. The double bed is comfortable and the private room has a small but functional bathroom. There is a very small TV with cable but only Spanish channels. Location is a bit far from the boat dock for Santa Cruz, San Marcos and San Pedro (about 1.5 miles each way) but it is a Q10 per person tuk Tuk ride to the embarcadero! Even though it's a long walk to the Calle Santander area, the neighborhood is relatively quiet because there are no discos or partying nearby. You will likely be hearing stray dogs barking and roosters crowing at 5:30 AM but we like to rise early anyway. "El Rincon Del Chef," the #1 restaurant in Panajachel is about 200 meters from the front door. Hotel El Sol offers a small but cozy breakfast room and cooked to order breakfasts for a good price. The owner provided laundry service, very nice to return home with a suitcase full of clean clothes! Hotel El Sol may not be for everyone but we found it to be a nice place to sleep while visiting Lake Atitlan. The price is relatively cheap for the quality you receive."

Grand Hotel Panajachel ★★★
"First time in "Pana" with my wife and three kids. I came before only once as a kid. The rooms were clean, the two rooms allowed the kids to stay together watching TV at night. Cable TV with even more channels that at my home. The kids loved that their favorite restaurant is very near, so in the afternoon we wen´t to "Pollo Campero" to drink some coffee, just in front of "Calle Santander", the main street at "Pana". The food at the restaurant inside the hotel was delicious too. In the next morning we wen´t to the reception for some ice creams and when we were going back to the room at the back of the hotel where there is no noise during night, there was one pretty squirrel that literally screamed at us, wen´t down one branch and moved in our direction, first time I hear how a squirrel "talks". A few minutes later a heard like someone was knocking at our window, and when I lifted the courtain there was the squirrel again, this time with an avocado in his hands, she stared at me like saying something I didn´t undertand. Now I think she wanted a deal, her avocado in exchange of my ice cream, no doubt. They have lots of avocados at the garden, but not that easy to get ice cream. Maybe the guests before me usually feed the squirrels. That squirrel made the trip unforgettable. Don´t forget to visit "Reserva Natural Atitlán" and buy a baby Monarch butterfly, it is so magical to watch their very first flight at your own home 8-10 days later. Best ground coffe I found was at "Cafe Loco", at the beginning of Santander street."
