"We arrived at 10pm. It was raining and cold. The property reception was locked with a sign with a phone number to call for emergencies. I figured not being able to check in was worthy of a call. A polite member of staff informed me that they were in the Guesthouse and would be over in 15 minutes. That wasn’t what I’d expect from a 5 star hotel but not to worry. We got into our room. It is quite aged, in need of a renovation. But again, not to worry. However, the experience got significantly worse when I went downstairs to ask where to go for breakfast. The staff member rudely explained that the breakfast that I paid an extra $120 for was already in the room the night before. It was two pieces of bread, some jam and two packets of cereal. I don’t eat bread/gluten. The restaurant was apparently closed for renovations and allegedly they tried (on several occasions I was rudely told) to contact ******* to inform me but because I’m somehow a lesser guest for booking through *******, they didn’t pass me the message so too bad for me / don’t use a booking agent. I asked for a refund for today’s breakfast but agin was snapped at saying “no”. It’s not so much about the restaurant being closed, not being informed when I booked, the aged room etc, it’s the service (or lack of) that can let any place down."

"We stayed at The Carriages Boutique Hotel and Vineyard and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip. This was a place I’d wanted to stay at for a long time, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The location was beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by nature, birdlife, and the quiet atmosphere of the Hunter Valley. On our first night, we even had the whole property to ourselves, which made the experience feel extra special. We enjoyed a lovely dinner nearby and were able to walk back through the gardens to the hotel afterwards, which added to the charm of the stay. Breakfast was simple but perfect, delivered in a basket and ideal for a relaxed morning. One of the best moments was lighting the fireplace on our final night and enjoying a quiet evening with a glass of wine. The location, service, atmosphere, and overall experience were all fantastic, and this will definitely be one of our fondest memories from the trip."

Thistle Hill is also an great location as is walking distant to a few wineries and a brewery."
