"Overall, it was a nice and welcoming hotel, but it didn't start off well. Was told on arrival ( only 10 minutes away from the airport ) that I had missed lunchtime sitting, but wasn't told food was available elsewhere, so I had to wait till evening the meal. Was given my room number and keys and off I went to find my room. On finding my room, I found the electric card to be too big for the electric slot, so a trip back to reception for another card. Back to my room only to find, tv and AC remotes didn't work. Quick look at the remote controls to find springs in remotes were rusty. I did a quick clean of both, and both started working. Unpacked, went to put items into the safe, only to find that not working. Didn't bother going back to reception , couldn't be bothered so did the whole week without a safe, but I'm sure it would have been looked at, but by that time I just wanted to chill. Overall, the room was okay but showing its age. Nice hot shower and comfortable bed and linen. Be mindful , most of the paths are cobbled stone, so if you're not too good on your legs, be careful. You have to be early to get a sunbed round the pool and also the same for on the beach. The pool was clean, and I've never seen a pool be cleaned so much in my life. Only stopped around the pool on the first day, as I found it to noisy all day for my liking. Actives going off in the daytime and music being played all day. Spent a rest of the time on the beach. Lifeguards are on duty all day. Red flagged all day as the sea is so strong, be aware. I couldn't fault the food, with plenty of hot and cold food served breakfast, lunchtime, and dinner. Help yourself to soft drinks, water, beer, and wine at lunch and dinner in the restaurant. Fresh pizzas were made on site, which was nice to see. Beware of the wild cats, if you're sitting outside who will watch every mouthfull of food you have. All staff were amazing, front front of house, to back of house staff. WiFi is not the best, and you will only get good service if you're next to the repection, everywhere else is hit and miss. Amazing sunsets every night. Couldn't fault the alcohol saying it was all-inclusive. Would I go again? Definitely not a no, but price would have to be competitive."

"Fantastic experience - location, amenities, staff. We had a few minor issues with the room, all of which were resolved promptly once we reported them. We only ate in the main buffet restaurant - Africa. The staff were attentive, without being intrusive. We sat outside for breakfast, at the same table each day, and the staff very quickly recognised our usual habits, responding without being prompted after just a couple of days. It was the same for lunch and dinner, where we sat inside. Even though the staff were on rotation, they quickly recognised what we had to drink at each meal time and what additional cutlery we needed. Even to the point where by the last few days of our stay they had set our table in advance of us coming to eat. I can only reiterate the excellent service given by the restaurant staff, whichever shift team were in attendance. The room was in good condition, clean and perfect for our needs. Cleaned everyday, always to a high standard, with fresh towels every time - which was important, as we showered around 3 times a day."

"Before all, people, employees are the utmost sympathy and are always available to make your stay enjoyable. Great people. Problem is management, maintenance, customer service: Went as a couple, on arrival they gave us a bedroom with twin beds, and a broken TV, when we asked to join the beds they changed us to another room in another building. Room was hot, but the AC was off. But no one told us it was broken. Room during the day is at 29°/30° unusable, at night if the night is fresher ot cools to 26°. Plenty of complaints, and we got plenty of crap excuses and blatant lies and they refused to change the room. They say it's a general problem, it isn't. It's a problem of a specific building, and one of the smallest ones. I've asked around other clients. And the common areas are have fully working AC. The room is also far from 5 star in terms of space, has ants all over, and the TV constantly looses signal. But the worst is the lies, the management incompetence, the lack of overall maintenance that in this countries needs to be preventive. And with 25 experience in construction including in Cabo Verde I know how things work, and I was quite tolerant at the beginning but they only showed a complete despise for their clients, it's a fraud calling this a 5star. Impossible to use the room during the day, uncomfortable nights, and an headache to communicate with a management that "spits" on their customers. Avoid at all costs unless you want your vacation ruined."

"First, the positives: the location is amazing. The pool area is fantastic, and the views are breathtaking. The design, architecture, and landscaping are wonderful. There is plenty of food available. The rooms are spacious and the beds are quite large. Now the negatives: although food is plentiful, the quality is very poor. Our 18-month-old baby could not eat anything offered at the hotel—nothing suited him, and he was not alone in this. We did not like the food either. The worst thing about this hotel is the noise level. Oh my God! The entertainment team did everything in their power to create unnecessary and extremely irritating noise. Our room was close to the pool, and they played extremely loud music every single night until midnight. Our baby woke up startled several times. I called reception on many occasions and even spoke to the staff in person, but they were not interested in resolving the issue. They kept claiming that the parties should be by the beach, which apparently they were not. I also found some of the reception staff dismissive. When we arrived, two staff members told us our room was not ready, even though it was already after 3 pm. I explained that we had just completed a six-hour flight with an 18-month-old baby, and only after that did a third staff member provide us with the room. On our departure day, I asked for a two-hour late check-out (1 pm instead of 11 am), and I was happy to pay for it, but again the reception staff were dismissive and unhelpful. The bathrooms are very dated and have an unpleasant smell. All the bathrooms need renovation and redecoration."

"Very very good experience. Nice relaxing holiday by the beautiful sea. Staff work tirelessly for your comfort and enjoyment. Yes the building is tired and needs updating but that certainly doesn't reduce your enjoyment. The food is varied, good quality and the pasta is without doubt some of the best ive had anywhere. Drinks are good quality including the soft drinks which in.some hotels are horrible but not here. Cocktails are nice. Had a lovely massage while I was here, would recommend. Overall we had a great weeks holiday! Thanks very much Occidental boa vista beach."

"The hotel let itsself down with the lack of aircon in the rooms. It was stifling hot and staff kept saying it was going to be fixed in next three hours. It had been broken since middle of August. Fortunately we were only there a week. People had two weeks of misery. The other amenities in the hotel were good. Staff generally friendly ( apart from reception who were not helpful with the aircon ). Before you spend your money check that the aircon is working - however, they might try and fob you off with saying it is being fixed ! TUI reps were also not very helpful..."
