"What you see is not what you get! Online this place looks absolutely amazing. Arrived to a not so friendly guy to check us in. We were an hour early and asked if we could park up and let the 4 kids out to play while we waited for 2pm. Was told to come back. We were 1 of 2 rooms only occupied for that night. Tired, broken, run down facilities, overgrown grounds. Very basic. The morning of check out there was no water at all. No explanation or apologies. Playground out of action with nothing on the website to say so. Just a bit disappointed as this was the only school holiday activity I'd planned for the kids and had to take time off work."

"This is an excellent place to stay in Russell with every facility you need. Rooms are studios with cooking facilities and are really spacious with fabulous decks with views over the harbour, a real asset for viewing the beautiful sunsets. The accommodation is immaculately clean, the beds super comfortable and the showers excellent. Catherine is a great host, there if you need her but not intrusive. It’s an easy downhill 5 minute walk into town, not so easy on the way home as it’s uphill and quite steep! However the upside of the steep hill is the amazing views."

"Commodore Lodge is excellent in all respects. Fantastic situation on waters edge in beautiful Russell. Close to restaurants and bars. Units are very good. Overlooking nice pool with outside seating area suitable for eating. Very well equipped to an extremely high standard. This is our 3rd visit. Unfortunately it was spoiled on the last day by a group of 3 couples who started drinking outside at about 4 30 pm. They then stared shouting, singing with loud music and this continued without a break until 11pm with no regard for other residents. It was impossible to sit or eat outside. I feel that the motel must be careful when letting to groups and make it clear that loud music, noise and excessive drinking is not acceptable."
