Busta House Hotel ★★★

📍 Busta, Brae, Shetland - Mainland, Shetland

"We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Busta House Hotel - relaxed and friendly, superb food and drink and as usual we were well looked after by the lovely, attentive team of staff which always adds to the experience. The splendid Vaila room is a real treat and breakfast the following day was faultless - many thanks to Grant and the team for yet another memorable evening."

St Magnus Bay Hotel
8.9 (47 reviews)

St Magnus Bay Hotel ★★

📍 Shetland, Hillswick

"Great location and friendly owner. Hotel is the only one in the area and although very clean - is beginning to look a bit tired. Good food - random service lol! Good flexibility with antisocial breakfast times. Basic room with an excellent shower. Hotel would benefit from a drying room."

The Westings ★★

📍 Tingwall, Veensgarth, Shetland

"Lovely welcoming Hotel - warm and so comfy! David is so friendly and extremely accommodating. He serves a delicious breakfast and perfect coffee! I was on business and it was perfect to have a nice warm room to return to each night. Bed lovely and comfy too."

The Brae Hotel
8.9 (74 reviews)

The Brae Hotel ★★

📍 Brae, Shetland

"The Brae hotel is situated in a beautiful area of the Mainland with a well stocked Co-op nearby and also Frankie’s fish and chips, which was amazing. Sadly the call of fish and chips meant we didn’t try the restaurant but breakfast was so good and generous. Two of everything - including black pudding! The two lads cooking and serving were incredibly friendly and efficient. A great start to the day. The room was large and had everything we needed, including a fridge (all hotels should have mini-fridges!). It was spotlessly clean with a large bathroom and hot, powerful shower. One moan - the entrance is up a number of steps that were all scattered with tab ends. Not a great look as you arrive and easily rectified! Sadly we only had one night here. Would stay again if in the area."

Glen Orchy House
7.2 (23 reviews)

Glen Orchy House ★★

📍 20 Knab Rd, Lerwick

"Appalling. Dirty, bed linen awful, beds awful, bathroom antiquated, no room service when requested. Surly unhelpful staff. Room too hot. A terrible experience"

Eddlewood Guest House
9.3 (36 reviews)

Eddlewood Guest House ★★★

📍 8 Clairmont Pl, Lerwick

"We stayed here for 6 nights and had a very decent sized room on the top floor which gave us terrific views. The guesthouse is perfectly placed in Lerwick, easy walk to everywhere in town and close to the main road both North and South. The bathroom was large with a bath over the shower and room could be serviced every day if you required it. There was also a washing machine and dryer for guest use. A full Scottish breakfast was available every day if you desired it but there was also yoghurt fruit cereal etc. There is no designated parking, just what is available on the street. We never had an issue accessing parking. The owner is relatively new to the business I think and he is a very nice, friendly chap. Rooms could do with a little bit of updating and dusting but overall a very happy and comfortable week for us."

Queens Hotel
6.0 (45 reviews)

Queens Hotel ★★★

📍 24 Commercial St, Lerwick

"I came here before mobile phones, before Amazon, before internet. I fell in love with this hotel and Shetland. Jutting out into a cold sea with waves crashing on the walls it was the most exciting place in the world. We turned on the hairdryers and trouser press to keep warm..we had porridge with double cream for breakfast followed by a whisky Mac or two to keep us warm we danced and sang .. I was 27 years old and fell in love with all of it. Shetland is a magical place, the hotel is what it is, see the beauty of it if you go, authenticity is hard to find. I’m 60 now and still looking for the wonderful unspoilt places."

Scalloway Hotel ★★★
"Although the staff were friendly this was a rather 'tired' 'commercial' hotel that didn't live up to its website. After we had booked in and were settling in our room, a member of staff burst in without knocking, saying "sorry, we thought the room was empty because it was quiet!" Bizarre. The room did have a sea view, but was built partly under the staircase so a little noisy when people tramped up to the next floor. It was also small, and the 'double' bed very narrow, perhaps four foot wide? En-suite also narrow with toilet that was difficult to flush properly. Evening meal was a bit grim, we thought the steak pie would be a safe bet, but was just meat piled on puff pastry, with under-done vegetables. Somebody's idea of a 'trendy' meal? Unbalanced and far too dry, could only eat half of it. Chef's day off? Continental breakfast was fine. (Which was just as well as the cooked breakfast was rather expensive!) Local street parking was plentiful and free - a benefit that takes some getting used to!"

"We stayed at Herrislea for 4 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very friendly and efficient staff (thank you, Milena, for messaging to offer the early check in), comfortable and well appointed rooms, toiletries, and a great breakfast. Reliable internet, lots of parking, and just a few minutes into Lerwick made this an excellent base to explore Shetland. Don’t expect the Ritz, but do expect comfort and a chilled time. Dinner is available though we mainly opted to explore the varied range of restaurants across the island. Definitely worked for us, and recommended."

"Nice hotel. Lovely bedrooms comfy beds great bar maid. Food terrible. Our menu had been changed on the Friday night for dinner they said the menu had not been sent through in time from the travel coach company. So potato and leek soup very spicy. Macaroni all dried out..meatballs very hard when trying to put fork into it.and pasta bland .no taste not enough sauce through the pasta .like some passata had just been put Into. The pasta . They don't do poached eggs as I asked the waiter ..only fried and scrambled. Somone wanted beans on toast for breakfast two slices of toast together no butter looked like a tin of beans poured over the toast this is not acceptable. Food should be what you are paying for. Told who I presume was the manager. Nothing done about the complaints . Food was a lot better on the ferry."

"The low point of my uncomfortable week at this hotel was witnessing the Thai owner ignore a fire alarm and turn her back on concerned guests. The alarm went off after 11pm on 30 September, we guests gathered in the main hall ready to evacuate. The owner came out, turned off the alarm at the panel stating it was room 3. Her only reaction was to stick her head around the corner and sniff the air. She then announced that room 3 must be smoking, and without making any further attempts to check on the safety of room 3 or any possible fire, made to return to her staff quarters. We guests all clamoured with concerns, asking her to at least knock on room 3's door in case they had for example fallen asleep with a cigarette. The owner completely ignored us and went back ot her quarters. It was left to one of the guests to knock on Room 3's door and ask about their wellbeing. Appalling negligence of fire safety and I left the next day to move to a different hotel as I no longer felt safe. This was after putting up with more than a week of erratic and indifferent housekeeping (I don't think they changed my bedding once), a bowl-shaped bed ineffectively propped up with a sheet of plywood, worn-out pilly bedding and threadbare towels, unfriendly staff whose English is not great, and the paper-thin wall between my room and next room's bathroom - I could hear absolutely everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, it was as if they were using the toilet in my room. The only pros here are the convenience for the town centre and Wool Week events, and the breakfasts were good."

"Eddlewood is a lovely guesthouse with bright, clean, comfortable rooms, a great location (good and easily found on-street parking, too) and a great host. This was my second stay, made all the more welcoming when greeted by name. Not suitable if unable to do stairs, though."

"Nice enough hotel had a ample room overlooking a small bay. Hotel was very quiet not many other guests due to time off year, sone restoration works ongoing at time. Quaint way off checking in, you had to phone for receptionist to come by and check you in, but it works."
