"Went to the Brae hotel as part of a bus tour in May, the hotel itself is clean tidy and presentable, unfortunatley it was badly let down by staff who lacked basic skills when it came to customer service. They appeared unabale to cope with a bus party, the food took far to long to be served was terrible,the apple crumble desert was unedible, basic condiments had to be asked for, asking for a refill of the water jug seemed an issue. the hotel could be better than it is and staff would benefit from some customer service training. The cook (definatley not a chef) needs to learn how to cook for bus parties."

"My wife, sister-in-law, and I stayed at the St Magnus for 3 nights in late April. We fell in love with all of Shetland, and our stay at the St Magnus played a big role in that. The service and accommodations were fantastic, the people across the board were warm and welcoming and happy to chat about anything and everything. I did not know what to expect when I heard about the Sunday roast, even after we were told what it entails, which was a listing of basically every meat and potato dish known to man...and that is exactly what we got. It was like a US Thanksgiving plate but with three or four more types of meats added in place of veggies. It was the perfect feast following a day of hiking. We still got the dessert (also great), too."

"Although the staff were friendly this was a rather 'tired' 'commercial' hotel that didn't live up to its website. After we had booked in and were settling in our room, a member of staff burst in without knocking, saying "sorry, we thought the room was empty because it was quiet!" Bizarre. The room did have a sea view, but was built partly under the staircase so a little noisy when people tramped up to the next floor. It was also small, and the 'double' bed very narrow, perhaps four foot wide? En-suite also narrow with toilet that was difficult to flush properly. Evening meal was a bit grim, we thought the steak pie would be a safe bet, but was just meat piled on puff pastry, with under-done vegetables. Somebody's idea of a 'trendy' meal? Unbalanced and far too dry, could only eat half of it. Chef's day off? Continental breakfast was fine. (Which was just as well as the cooked breakfast was rather expensive!) Local street parking was plentiful and free - a benefit that takes some getting used to!"

"During my 3 night stay there wasn’t once a cleaner or maid in the room so the bed wasn’t made, no fresh sheets were put on, the bins weren’t emptied, there was no fresh towels for the room. Also the tea and coffee wasn’t replenished for duration of my stay. Very poor"

"A one night stay. A lovely clean hotel, with lovely views from the top rooms. Slightly old fashioned, which is not unusual for Lerwick. Our double room was enough for one night and very clean. It’s up quite a steep hill so be prepared if you are walking! Breakfast was a little disappointing, hence the drop in stars. Cold selection was ok, but the cereal containers looked they had been used for some time. Cooked breakfast has a great selection but the quality of the ingredients let it down. Rather tasteless and unappealing. It’s an ok hotel if nothing else is available."

The hotel's breakfast is very rich and delicious, and dinner is very convenient. Outside the window is the sea and the island opposite. The other side of the hotel is a hiking area. It is also very convenient to visit museums and shopping."

"We requested an easy access room, because my partner has limited mobility, when booking 2 months ago. The hotel has no lift and we had to walk up 2 flights of stairs. Staff said they had no ground floor rooms left, despite our having booked 2 months in advance. The WiFi service in our room was very weak and unreliable. Breakfast was good. Overall, we felt the hotel was overpriced and not good value for money."

"We selected Busta House Hotel as its location was amazing for exploring the island,without being too close to Lerwick. The staff were lovely and went above and beyond to help- Alan and Andrew made the stay so smooth. Grant runs a brilliant team. The house has plenty of character and the food choices were wider than what I was expecting. Big portions too(they do half portions if needed) We saw a few families around and a mix of other visitors. Also managed to see the Northern lights as Alan came and told us they were happening."

"We visited the cliffs of Eshaness and were looking for somewhere to have lunch on our way back to Lerwick. We received a very warm welcome and were given the last table, as it was Sunday lunchtime. The food was very good and the young waiter was very attentive. He wasn't very knowledgeable about the wine selection, but that was nothing we couldn't solve by working with him. The highlight at the end was a wonderful Pavlova – kudos to the kitchen. We hadn't expected that."

"Went there for a family meal. Both me and my partner had the duck. Presentation was spot on, no taste, duck was so hard I couldn't even cut it properly ended up giving it to my partner who also stated it was very tough. Had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream again cutting through a pudding was hard, and the most tiny bit of ice cream you could imagine. Never go there again 174 pounds for family of 4 adults 3 children "

"I truly like this hotel. Granted, it needs some cosmetic updates, but the bones of my room were very satisfactory. The room was clean and comfortable, the bed the right degree of firmness, the heater was very efficient, and there was excellent hot water for both bath and shower. The wifi was also excellent. The staff were friendly and on premises. My room overlooked Banes Beach and I got to see and har people bathing every day (!). The location was extremely convenient to shops, cafes, take aways, chippies, and the small grocery in the center of Lerwick. The community center and museums were within convenient walking distance. If I return to Lerwick, I will stay here again."
