The Sea Hotel ★★★

"In short ..excellent value for money , clean , comfy , exceptional, helpful friendly staff Location: great location over the road from the beach which is clean and has lovely sand dunes . Also a lively fun fair and a park. Just opposite reception area there's a great park with boating pool , cafe ..ducks, wildlife .. lots going on . Five minutes walk from the start of a a lively shopping area with los of shops , a market some days, ATM, big supermarket ( Morrisons) Ferry over to north Tyneside ..and driving , only about 29 minutes to get over the Tyne river and to go further up the cost etc . Food: Lots of curry houses ..! But basically every food is available walking distance as well as convenience stores and Morrisons supermarket . . The hotel does meals and has a bar ..looked nice ..but I can't review honestly as I didn't use these facilities .Breakfast: Special praise for the chef ..breakfast ! Full English or whatever you choose really ...as well as the usual cereals , juices, pastries .coffee,tea Id definitely return when I visit NE England again. The Grotto ★★

"The Grotto has gone very grotty. Outside not a single table was clear. Piled high with plates and cups and bottles. Inside was only marginally better. I had high hopes - it having changed ownership again that they would tidy up, pick up the rubbish and spruce it up. There was a time you could get a great coffee on a lovely deck looking out to sea. Sadly even basic standards are not on show here. This place has huge sentimental value to me, my nan worked here once upon a time. It’s the best setting earth with one of the most beautiful beaches you could wish for. Crying out for an owner to maximise its potential."

"Just spent 3 nights at the Beechwood. Great place to stay. Very close to the seafront and parks. Reza is a warm welcoming and helpful host, a good breakfast cook too. Our room had everything we need with some nice touches , light up magnifying mirror , welcome chocolates and a fridge , very useful. The bed was comfortable and everywhere was spotless. Decent prices , wel Highly recommended"
