The Running Horse is a very good personable country pub with rooms which are very well appointed with comfortable beds.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly and we had a business lunch in their semi private room which was simple but excellent.
The only reason I marked them down a little was because of several carpet stains that I do feel should be removed - or if not removable then they should put in a new carpet as they were large and off putting.
Highly recommended!

MENGThe location is no better, the Winchester Cathedral is opposite the main entrance, there is no parking lot, but the hotel provides a parking permit for a nearby parking space, and there is no charge. Breakfast can be delivered to the room for free, or it can be eaten in a rustic restaurant decorated downstairs. The rooms are too big, the solid wood furniture is also antique, very romantic, and the bathroom is spacious and comfortable. The perfect hotel, will definitely go again next time. Excellent service attitude, check out later.

I visited with my son. We stayed there for 3 nights and hardly had a good night's sleep. The building has very poor soundproofing, and we were woken up by a loud noise from outside the room at midnight every day. Sounds like a great number of glass bottles are dropping off. However, I have to say that the room was very clean and spacious, but not recommended for light sleepers, normal sleepers anyway!

The water in the shower is so slow and weak that it was dripping and it was not warm, quite cold. Difficult to shower and wash hair. :(
