Gekkoju Kurokawa

The bad reviews of the service were for the agency and Ctrip customer service. Later, Ctrip customer service apologized to me sincerely. It is best to book on the official website yourself. The agency is too bad. The service of the hotel is excellent. The hotel is in Kurokawa Onsen. I am a free traveler and do not drive myself. The transportation is inconvenient. There is no train, only bus, and there are only three buses a day. The Kurokawa Onsen bus station is an unmanned station with no toilets, no taxis, and no business. Based on some common sense about the inconvenience of transportation in the secret hot spring, I asked Ctrip customer service to make an appointment for the station the day before, and was told that there was no pick-up service and I had to walk there myself. At that time, I felt that it was wrong. Apple navigation said that it was 20 minutes away. As a result, I was dumbfounded when I arrived at the station. I contacted the hotel myself. The front desk did not speak English well. He asked me where my name came from and immediately knew that he sent a car to pick me up. When I arrived, the driver bowed and apologized to me. It took 5 or 6 minutes to drive to the hotel. It was all uphill without signs. When checking in, the hotel staff said that they wanted to ask me how to get to the hotel, but the agency was a landline and no one answered. The hotel has always had a pick-up service. Yueguangshu Hotel is almost perfect. There are only 8 rooms, each of which is very good, and the facilities and supplies are extremely attentive and of excellent quality. Each room has two indoor and outdoor hot springs. The hot spring water is of excellent quality and is really skin-beautifying. The food is top-notch and very enjoyable. In addition, the hotel does not need to find staff who can speak Chinese. Japanese employees are much more polite and enthusiastic. It is enough to use translation software or gestures. The main reason for coming to Japan is that I like the enthusiasm and uncompromised service. In short, Gekkoju is worth a try and I will come again. The water quality of Kurokawa Onsen is well-deserved. There are also high-quality hotels such as Takefu. It is up to you to choose a budget. They are all quite good, but it is too deserted and the transportation is inconvenient. There are no convenience stores or coffee shops, only two or three restaurants. If you want to stay a few more days and stay in a few more hotels, you don’t know where to go after checking out at noon.

wonderful ryokan, we had a river view from the window. delicious kaiseki dinner and breakfast. totally recommend! tattoo-friendly onsen, but the showers are only on the first floor. the private outdoor rooftop onsen does not have a shower, so it’s better to shower downstairs first; otherwise, it can be quite chilly to rinse yourself outside using the buckets. there is free parking, but the street itself is very narrow and busy with pedestrians; the ryokan staff can help with parking. the staff warned us about the parking situation in advance and advised leaving the car at a free parking lot in the village center, but there were no spaces available.

Sure enough, the water temperature of the hot springs meets the requirements. In order to adapt to foreigners who don’t like heat, many hot springs have lowered the water temperature, so it doesn’t feel like soaking. The interior style is also the feeling of the Taisho era😄

Shikinosato Hanamura

26.1.27-28 I was so happy staying at Shikinosato Hanamura. The facilities, including a Japanese-style tatami room and a private bath, were as expected (perfect for one man, but a bit cramped for two). The kotatsu and futon were perfect, and everything was satisfying. However... I felt the food was below average. After enjoying the cave and open-air bath in the large bath(?), I expected a delicious meal, but it was so Japanese that I couldn't finish the entire meal. (This is also true for Kurokawa Onsen, but it's wise to shop at a convenience store or supermarket in the city before going in.) Anyway, except for the food, I was satisfied with everything. I even bought a salt cleanser.

Kurokawa Onsen Yumerindo Hanadomari

I stayed at Yumerindo Hanadomari from the 15th to the 16th, and I had a double room in the annex Hanadomari. After booking, I emailed my questions, and the hotel staff answered each and every one of them with utmost sincerity. Above all, the staff were incredibly friendly. Everyone at the hotel explained everything in detail and went out of their way to provide convenience for Korean tourists. The food was delicious, and I loved both the private hot spring bath in my Hanadomari room and the open-air hot spring bath. I would definitely return, and I'd love to visit the Aso region of Japan again, if only to stay at this hotel.

Transportation) If you write a pickup request in the memo, they will pick you up at the information center or bus stop! Accommodation) I stayed in the main building, and it was clean and had a charming traditional feel! There were not many people on the day we stayed, so we used it like a private bath, and there were men's and women's baths, 2 family baths, and a mixed bath. It felt like we had a villa with a hot spring hidden in the forest, so my friend and I were very satisfied. >< Kaiseki) They also served local specialties such as seasonal vegetable tempura and horse meat sashimi, and they gave us enough for a woman. The horse meat and plum wine were so delicious that I remember them. + I checked out without even knowing that I had left my jacket on a hanger, but I was grateful that they found the store we were in and went to find it. ㅠㅜ

Yama No Yado Shinmeikan

I recently visited Kurokawa Onsen in Kumamoto and stayed one night at Yamamizuki Shinmeikan. Overall, it's a traditional Japanese ryokan suitable for those looking to relax in hot springs, but there are a few things to note. The location is its biggest advantage, right in the heart of the Kurokawa Onsen area. It's just a few minutes' walk to other ryokans and small shops, making it super convenient to use the 'onsen hopping pass' (Tegata) to try different baths nearby. Driving to Mount Aso or Aso JR Station takes about 40 minutes, and there's a free shuttle bus to the main gate. Although the road is narrow and winding, the scenery is beautiful and worth the trip. There are river views and forests nearby, and the air is fresh at night, giving a very tranquil feel. Cleanliness was average. The tatami-style room was spacious enough for luggage, but as it's an older establishment, there was a bit of dust in the corners. Although the bathroom was cleaned daily, water marks in the shower area weren't wiped dry, which made it feel a bit less comfortable during the stay. Fortunately, the bedding was soft and odorless, and towels were changed promptly. In terms of service, the staff were friendly. The front desk attendant helped with simple English and check-in was quick. There's also a 24-hour free coffee machine and vending machine, convenient for drinks late at night. The kaiseki dinner was fresh, featuring local vegetables and river fish, which was very satisfying. The Japanese-style set breakfast was simple but flavorful. However, the facilities were a bit disappointing. Although there are five hot spring baths, including a 30-meter-long cave bath and an open-air mixed bath, which were very therapeutic, some pools didn't have attached showering areas. You had to walk further to rinse off, which wasn't very convenient. The rooms don't have private bathrooms, relying entirely on communal ones. The TV and fridge are basic, and there's no Wi-Fi in the rooms. The older design of the floors felt a bit cramped. In conclusion, this ryokan focuses on hot springs and a traditional ambiance, suitable for budget travelers. But if you're looking for modern facilities, you might want to reconsider. Next time I visit Kurokawa, I'll try other newer establishments.
