The Bull Hotel
9.0 (104 reviews)

The Bull Hotel ★★★★

📍 34 East St, Bridport

"We stayed in a family room. Really pleased with the location of the hotel, easy to park the car, staff really friendly. The family room was AWESOME! Great supplies in the rooms and 2 Dyson cool fans to help with the warm summer weather. The hotel has lots of history and character, which the decoration of the various rooms really helps to excel in a relaxing stay. The family room had an ensuite off the double bedroom, and then another door lead to a room with bespoke made bunk beds(they easily accommodated 2 tall teenagers) and through another door a room with a toilet and shower. The hotel is well located for the shops on the main street but no traffic noise. Highly recommend, we will definitely be back again."

The Marquis of Lorne

The Marquis of Lorne ★★★

📍 Nettlecombe, Bridport

"I went there for a few days over Christmas/New Year as I have done for several years now (apart from during the pandemic restriction time). It really is a hidden gem of a place I discovered first as a recommendation for somewhere to eat. The food is excellent. I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment especially during Easter and the summer months. The chef Steve (one of the hosts) presents a varied menu of delicious, well presented meals, which leaves a person truly spoiled for choice - the best way to deal with the issue of working your way through the menu is to eat there several times, especially if staying there. Tracey (the other host) and front of house, is very welcoming with a warm and bubbly personality. Accommodation- the rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, all with beautiful ensuite facilities. The beds are inviting and a good night's sleep is assured. Views from the rooms are of rolling hills and fields. It is ideal for walkers exploring the area. This 16th century country inn is located in a tranquil hamlet outside Bridport. It has all that you require for a perfect break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet it is easy to get to local towns by car. This makes a good base for sightseeing with plenty to explore in the surrounding areas. This is a lovely place, well run by a couple who clearly know what they are doing and do it very well with great staff, atmosphere as well as the fabulous food and accommodation. It cannot be faulted as it really does tick all boxes."

Monkton Wyld Court

Monkton Wyld Court ★★

📍 Elsdon’s Lane, Bridport

"I visited Monkton Wyld Court for a few days for a personal writing retreat. The bookings coordinator was incredibly helpful and accommodating, allowing me to stay in the wooden cabin in the grounds, as the rooms in the main house were fully booked for the dates I wanted. It is a quirky but stunning place (beautiful old vicarage and grounds). The views were breathtaking and it is very quiet and peaceful. The staff were lovely and invited me to eat dinner with them. I would thoroughly recommend this place for people wanting to get away from the busyness of life for a few days whether to write, or just take a break. I came home refreshed and rested and having done lots of writing!"

The Bull Hotel ★★★★
"All good, excellent place to stay whilst visiting family in the town.  My only disappointment was in the booking  - I wanted a smaller room and both the website and hotel stated there was one available but having almost completed booking was told only a master bedroom was available and considerably more expensive.  I had no time to investigate other options in the town."

"Very attentive staff and at a lovely peaceful location. There are a few little things that could be improved, fresh fruit and pastries rather than the tinned fruit and frozen pastries that are available.Accessible Bath toiletries would nice too."

"We chose this pub/restaurant on a recommendation. We were not disappointed, we had fillet steak cooked to perfection, my wife had brisket, once again wonderfully cooked. We finished the meal with two of the best pavlovas we’ve eaten. Overall a gem of a restaurant, great attention to cooking. Food served timely by friendly staff. Highly recommended. Small drawback is access by windy narrow lanes, take your time and be alert."

"Not worth the £175 paid ( which was a discount offer price!! Bad enough to have to go down stairs to make a coffee or tea.you have to do your own washing up. Then only one shower per floor of 6/7 rooms to share. Then worst of all you are asked to strip your own bed. Very tired establishment and felt like we were intruding. Would highly recommend that the Youth Hostel is advertised without the B&B as it fell far short of being one."

"Visit with family in Yeovil, we took a day trip to Bridport. Lovely town with an interesting market and entertained by great buskers. Our travel companions recommend the Nelson. So glad they did, three cracking good Palmers brews, all in great condition. Next pleasent surprise was the menu. Excellent choice. They catered for one of our party with allergies, and best of all an "over 65" menu. I had the delicious colcannon ham and eggs for an unbelievable £7. Pleasent and helpful staff, felt like old school good service . Highly recommended."
