"I’m going to start by saying my initial welcome by the gentleman at reception was not well received. Yes it was at 1300 and a hour before our check in time. What I didn’t like was the attitude, we have a private event, your check in is not until 2pm. I asked is there any chance of a drink or some lunch only to be informed we have a private function so unfortunately the answer is come back at 2pm. The location is outstanding, 10mins walk to town or 3 mins walk to an amazing park. We made use of both and returned at 1530. Check-in was flawless and almost like we have never been there before. We both ordered an evening meal, burger and omelette and it was very poor. Omelette was very overcooked and the burger was on an untoasted bun so it was soggy. Yes we can deal with that as it’s been a long day. The following morning at breakfast we were aware that “Chef Bob” ran the show (kitchen and reception). The food again was not as expected, bacon was great but the rest was pretty poor. The positives were that this hotel is exceptionally clean, the beds were super comfortable, the grounds were beautifully kept. The negatives were the hospitality side of the hotel business that I paid £148 for was deeply lacking. Simple things like a decent welcome, a meal or snack service when needed would have made me feel better. Being a paying guest and made inferior due to a private party that stayed for no more than 3 hours is not acceptable."

"This place is so welcoming and the hosts are so attentive. The food is excellent , the beds are so comfy, it’s clean . Hot water bottles and blankets are provided should you need that extra comfort as it’s an old house but with character! I will be returning!"
