"So, how about PIR? Let's start with the pros. The sea view is unbeatable, and it has its own long stretch of beach. I'd say it's the second-best on Perhentian Island, right after Long Beach, and definitely better than the two beaches below the Marriott. I even saw sea turtles, sharks, Nemo, and schools of fish while snorkeling – very satisfying! There are also monkeys, squirrels, lizards, and other small animals behind the resort.
The staff were very helpful, assisting with luggage from the jetty to the room and again at check-out, which was great. PIR also offers water taxi and island hopping tours, and the prices are quite reasonable.
You can also walk to other restaurants for meals. A whole fish cost 80 MYR, which is much cheaper than the 200 MYR at the Marriott.
Now for the cons. PIR's breakfast is absolutely terrible. Besides fried eggs, I really didn't know what to eat, though the watermelon was decent. Their regular meals are okay, similar in taste to Mama's. The soundproofing is definitely poor; you can hear conversations from the next room and even the sound of the waves. Also, the bed sheets weren't very clean. I'd recommend bringing your own bedding."
