Fukuchi-IN ★★★
"We had a delightful stay ar the temple. The room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The food was delicious. And the staff was absolutely superb. We will recommend the temple to any friends planning a trip to Japan."
Kudonoie ★★
"The hotel was close to the station, clean, and well-equipped with amenities, making for a very comfortable stay. It was a scorching 36°C on the day of check-in, but the air conditioning and fan were already on, so I was able to cool down as soon as I entered the room. There was a wide variety of condiments, coffee, tea, and other beverages, and a 2-liter bottle of water was provided in the refrigerator. The thoughtfulness and attention to detail were evident everywhere. I would definitely like to stay here again when I visit Koyasan."
Hongakuin ★★★
"Beautiful place, however the information published is not all accurate. Dinner is actually at 6 p.m. while the website says 5 p.m. Moreover, the curfew at 8 p.m. is not indicated on the website. So we missed the evening visit to the cemetery that we had booked and paid for."
Katsuragi Onsen Happuu No Yu ★★★
"Overall very satisfied"
Saimonin ★★
"Modest but clean. Walking distance to Okunion Cemetery."
Nakagawa Ryokan ★★
"Simple but comfortable room in a Japanese guesthouse. Located in a charming small town, with convenient railway access (500m walk)."
Henjoukoin ★★★
"Excellent temple, everything was top-notch. We were greeted by the hostess at the entrance, who was very kind and pleasant. Dinner and breakfast were amazing. In the morning, we were able to attend the head monk's service. Another interesting highlight was a young monk who demonstrated his karate skills on me 😂 (he was drunk, but it was fun). I definitely recommend trying this place."
Shojoshinin ★★
"Our temple stay at Shojoshinin was undoubtedly the most magical moment of our grand trip to Japan. The temple is stunningly beautiful and impeccably clean. We were lucky to get a room with a gorgeous view of the inner courtyard and the forest. We thoroughly enjoyed drinking tea while admiring the scenery. The location is convenient and situated right next to the entrance of the ancient cemetery. This allowed us to easily go for atmospheric walks both in the morning and in the evening. The Buddhist dinner and breakfast were not only beautifully presented but also highly nutritious. The monks were friendly, and we really appreciated the free guided tour of the temple. A truly relaxing and enriching place!"
Koyasan Shukubo Jokiin ★★★
"Love the room and activities. The meals are great too. A superb experience."

Koyasan Syukubou Fudouin
"My first time at Shukubo, Fudoin was a very good experience. Fudo-in was built in 906 to enshrine King Fudo Myoto. Emperor Toba and Empress Toba of the Heian period are buried here. Currently there are 14 rooms, 3 room types, 4 without bathroom, 8 with bathroom, and 2 with both bathroom. This time I stayed in a room with a bathroom. The room was comfortable and clean. The public bathroom experience is also very good. The breakfast and dinner were very good. They were in a beautiful and elegant room. The dining location and meals were arranged in advance, and the waiters would come to the room to guide them. Many shukubo in Koyasan are facing the street. This hospital is not facing the street. It is quiet and unique. It can be reached by walking a short distance from the bus station."
Koyasan Shukubo Hojo-IN
"It was an old house, so the facilities were basic, but I slept surprisingly well that night."
Koyasan Syukubo Zofukuin
"I stayed here June 6th and 7th 2024 I have stayed at dozens of places in Japan over three months, from temples to hotels, guest houses, and hostels. I am not some person who has only stayed at top hotels then got upset when not knowing what to expect elsewhwere. This was the worst experience BY FAR. There is an extremely rude monk running the place. ***** bath only, which is not listed on the reservation sites. To make matters worse, it is only open for four hours a day in the evening. Want a morning shower or bath? Too bad, it is only open 4 hours in the evening. Want a clean bath? Too bad. There was a giant millipede swimming around in the bath. When I tried to show the monk and didnt take my slippers off in the right place of the bathroom he yelled at me. SHOES HERE NOW! I tried to say look please there is a huge bug (in Japanese) and he yelled again SHOES HERE NOW! NOW! I have no idea how such a rude person became Buddhist, he clearly does not follow his own religion. In every Japanese accommodation there is at bare minimum communal hot water for tea and a microwave. Not here though. When I asked about it the monk acted like I was crazy and gave me an attitude. He left the office at 3:30 and disappeared despite a 5pm closing time. Need info? Too bad."
Sekishoin
"Very nice stay, very friendly & welcoming staff and the room we had had the view on the garden which is beautiful! The common area is nice for sitting down for a drink with friends!"

Koyasan Shukubo Saizenin
"It's great. The room has a view of the courtyard, and it's beautiful to look out through the window. The staff is very friendly and there are staff who can speak Chinese. Nishizenin is on the side of the path, very quiet, especially in winter, there is no noise at all. The food is good. The dinner is different for two days. The first day is vegetarian, with vegetarian eel and sashimi. The second meal should be pure vegetable. I personally like the second meal. There are morning prayers, paid copying of sutras, drawing of Buddha statues, and Aji Kan meditation. The location is convenient, not far from the gate of Rikoyasan, you can take a bus to Okunoin, and then walk all the way back, without going back."

"Hygiene and location are very good, food is relatively simple"
Ichijoin
"This is a luxurious temple lodging that we used for a company memorial service. The rooms are spacious and clean, on par with a first-class hotel. We were able to relax and unwind. The baths are also spacious and new. The food is vegetarian, featuring Hamadaya's exquisite sesame tofu. The staff were all very kind and considerate. And above all, the main hall that we saw during the morning service was magnificent. I think it was worth it just to see it."
Sanso Amanosato
"A great place for a relaxing stay set by the countryside. 3 private onsen to choose from after a day wandering around. The hotel could do with some upgrade on some parts but the quality of the french/japanese meals as well as the kindness of the whole staff make it an enjoyable stay to remember."
Nipponia Hotel Koyasan Pilgrimage Railway - in the Station Inn - Self Check-in Only
"At the time we made this reservation we planned on staying in the Koyasan area overnight. Our plans changed and we were no longer able to. I attempted to cancel through *******. I was unable to. I contacted an agent who was sure he’d be able to help. He also was unable to. Turns out the hotel has a 30 day cancellation requirement - I had absolutely no idea; it was not clear on the listing. My attempt was 25 days ahead. They wouldn’t budge, or even offer a partial refund. I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life. It was our only negative experience in Japan."
Koyasan Shukubo Fugenin
"The receptionist was very handsome and friendly, smiling from start to finish, leaving us with a very positive impression. The entire process of check-in, rest, dinner, and morning classes was relaxing and enjoyable. The food, however, is truly hard to describe. Don't go in with too high expectations."
